Wow the Toon are woeful. That's us now down to three eligibly fit defenders.

Am I a "plastic fan" if the Messi fan in me wants him to leave to another league to see what he can do(thereby screwing the Barca fan in me :( )?

WAY too big of a job for Koeman

Well, he was the touted front-runner before January when Messi and LE had an apparently 'huge' fallout, and he even got posed quite a few questions regarding such as well.

Ntm, he is a Barca legend and a 'product' of the Johan Cryuff school also.

Thus, I'd say he would be a great option.

That said; I'd give anything for a Josep Guardiola return, even if the man himself has seemingly closed the door on ever returning as Manager at FC Barcelona.

With regards to Europe, England isnt helped by Arsenals pointless existence and I do love seeing the familiar four get undone, but I've never seen a team as protected as Barca were until tikki takka got expsosed by decent football. "Struggling? Doesnt matter, the opposition will go down to 10 at some point."

Touted by who??

Managers aren't or at least shouldn't be appointed on sentiment

He's had a few decent spells in charge of some dutch clubs which in the grand scheme of things aren't big clubs. When he was put in charge of a largish european club he made a mess of it and now after less than a year in charge of an english team where he has exceeded expectations you want to give him one of the biggest jobs in world football. A job where the teams star player has actively tried to get the manager sacked. Talk about throwing him to the wolves :lmao:

I think what needs to happen is a change in philosophies. Tiki Taka ain't working no more as we all know. What Barca needs is a manager like a Josep Guardolia who can create a tactic and modify it on the fly. And maybe a change in the presidency.

You make it sound like it's easy to find a manager like Guardiola..........

Barca are a team in transition, Valdes is gone along with Puyol. Pigue went out of form and Alves is almost certainly leaving at the end of the season. Xavi is past his prime. Messi was in bad form before christmas but has gotten his act together. Give the team some time to adapt and they can be a force again. Hell they are top of la liga and doing fine in the champions league. Some continuity after the last few seasons may do them some good.

CMF is correct in that there needs to be some continuity. However, Barca went trophyless last season as well, so IF they were to go trophyless this year again... LE would most surely be shown the door.

As for Koeman, as recently as last month, he was questioned regarding a role at Barca and has also said that he does want to manage them eventually. Which is natural. Given that Barca usually look 'in-house' for their managers, and moreso in recent times especially, given the success of Pep(hence the appointment of LE), Koeman will surely be under serious consideration should the manager role become available once again, whether sooner or later.

All that said; the main problem with Barca is the board which has needed the boot for sometime, and are responsible for the Transfer ban that has been imposed on us by the Authorities. Until such problems are properly addressed, Barca will always be under a cloud of uncertainty.

Barca has used such a philosophy for a long long time, so there is no chance of a change as it has become a part of the club's identity.

Enrique getting sacked would be more to do with keeping Messi happy. Luis actually has the team playing well right now.

Im sure a lot of managers would want to manage one of the best teams in the world, what a surprise.

No they dont. Guardiola and Vilanova are the only "in house" appointments. Enrique went off to Roma and Celta Vigo so can't be considered in house.
And fuck me not everyone who once played for Barca and has shown a shred of managerial capaibility is going to be another Guardiola. Feel free to ignore the fact Koeman made a mess of the only biggish club he managed.

I agree the board should walk but their problems go beyond that. The team that won them so many trophies in the late 2000's is finished and they need to rebuild(which they are in the process of doing). No great team lasts forever.

Bullshit. If a tactic aint working anymore because the rest of the world has figured out what to do when they come against it then you find something else. Simple as that

Who can't really predict who wins the prem at the start of the season?

Chelsea/ManCity and no other real contenders given ManU's recent disappearance... so I guess there ain't any fun in Prem either(based on what you claim about La Liga)

As for the part about Europe.... I guess you admit that the "Standards of EPL" schtick is a load of BS... which was my point all along.

And using IF doesn't cut it.... in La Liga, clubs like Sevilla/Atletico/Valencia all compete in Europa with strong teams and still fight on both fronts... I guess that the inability of EPL to 'give a shit' is more along the lines of 'they can't compete on both domestic and european fronts at the same time'...

I never once said that English teams are stronger in Europe the point i'm making is that the EPL is more competitive :banghead:

You say it's only Chelsea and Man City that people tip to win. I disagree. I know plenty of people who backed Manchester United/Arsenal/Liverpool to win the league. In Spain it's only ever been Real/Barca with Atletico been the freak exception last season. I guess the un-even distribution of T.V rights money will correct that though!

Maybe the fact that a weaker line-up gets put out in the Europa league is because English teams are confident they can progress to the very top of the EPL and into the Champions League places. In Spain the teams that compete in Europa know that they have reached a glass ceiling when it comes to their league and that the Europa is their best chance of European silverware.

Thank fuck for that. Poyet's a disgrace to football (and always does well against us).

Dick Advocaat to Sunderland with Kevin Ball as assistant. The jokes write themselves.

But, Enrique is "in house" regardless of him coaching elsewhere. He is a Barca Legend and a former Captain of the club. He is 'in house' as you can get, actually.
Martino was the guy who was out of house, and unfortunately he tried to tinker too much with the playing style and never was able to get over with the Camp Nou faithful.

No one is saying these other guys will be the next Guardiola, but many have a tendency to try things again and again when it hit the jackpot once... as a Wrestling fan, you should know that with all the Heel Authority figures that come up again and again in the WWE.

I do agree that we are building and that has been encouraging this season, but still, being a West Indies fan, I know that as long as the "Head" is bad, it trickles down to the other parts.

Indeed, were Barca to drop a la Leeds or Depor, then a philosophy change would definitely make sense...but at this time, possession football is still the Barca way and it still seems to be working well enough.

But I already posted some info. which shows that it is almost the same in terms of competition for places in Europe, Relegation and even at the top...

lulz.
Let's be serious, only ManCity and Chelsea had a chance once the Summer TW was over.
Arsenal are Arsenal, ManU had too many new players and they are obviously still bedding in, and Lpool lost their best player during the summer and started badly as a result.
In the past decade, only 3 Prem teams have won the league which is the same as in La Liga.

But, more Spanish teams have competed in UCL than Prem teams, as I already pointed out.
Actually, the Prem seems to put in the same 4 teams every year, with Lpool jumping in sometimes. Spurs have only got in once, and look out of the running this year again.

Diego Maradona is still available...
