Domestic football - spam version

It isn't true. You know why? They are United fans. It's their job to remind you of our bad luck.

I was having nightmares. Last thing we need is Heskey rules for Fifa '13 and him being in Liverpool's squad, It'd be the one time I'd agree with a United supporter that we are shit.

I don't want Michael Owen anywhere near the club again. I'd rather have Anelka or even Drogba (if the chance arises).

Reps of both Anelka and Drogba said the rumors of them leaving Shanghai are untrue. Sky sports did one of those "out and about" segments asking fans who they'd like to see come in and some said Owen, others said search for an emergency loan and one chav started on about Owen being a traitor. I think it's a situation where no matter who Rodgers chooses, in the realm of realism the fans won't be happy, unless it's Drogba or Anelka and that isn't happening.

And to be fair I'd be much happier for Owen to return than Florent Pongolle, another rumored name.

I think it could well happen that Rodgers ends up leaving. A mate of mine made the point that the Americans could use this cock up on deadline day to bring in a director of football which Rodgers wouldn't be happy with. That's the least of our problems though we have a tough run of games coming up and if we don't pick up some points soon the pressure on Rodgers will be immense, almost Hodgson like. At the end of the day all this talk from Rodgers and the owners is cheap and the only thing that matters is results.

EDIT: None of the Strikers on the free agent list are near good enough for what we need but this is the mess we have gotten ourselves in, id be more confident in some of the youngsters to get goals then a 37 year old del peiro.

I'd say Klasnic on a pay as you play deal would be a more likely signing for Liverpool given that Owen, on top of being injury-prone, will want a king's ransom in wages and probably demand a two year contract.

Although it looks like Klasnic is headed to Mainz or Deportivo

Owen is gone. Klasnic, Bednar, Pongolle, Heskey; this is Liverpool football club, rather depressing isn't it?

EDIT: Sky Italia claim Liverpool have offered Del Piero a contract. May not be the player he was ten years ago, but for a back-up he'd be great.

It wouldn't be ideal but he'd be the best of the bad bunch plus he could be awesome to have in the squad. Let him teach Sterling a couple of tricks and I'm sure even Suarez and Gerrard could learn something. One thing is for sure, when we go to Sunderland after the international break, we HAVE to keep the ball well.

And I'd be fuming if we let Rodgers go.

I can't help but think, "do you want one lastshort term shot at the big time?" is a more attractive proposition than "do you want to move your entire family to Australia for four years?", so I imagine the wages would be different at each club.

Former England striker Michael Owen last night signed for Stoke, ending a four-month search for a new club since being released by Manchester United. The 32-year-old has agreed a one-year deal after failing to re-ignite his career at Old Trafford during three injury-blighted seasons.

Owen's deal was not entirely secured last night, as the Premier League board had still to establish that Stoke had not left senior players out of their 25-man squad Premier to accommodate him – which is against League rules. Stoke do have a substantial number of senior players already on their books and it is also unclear whether the club hit yesterday's 4pm deadline to submit their list – as-yet unpublished – in time to include the striker.

Owen was a free agent and able to sign after the transfer window closed last Friday. The former Liverpool forward made four appearances last season for United and has not played competitively since November.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have made no moves towards signing a free agent and appear to have settled with the strike force they have for the first half of the Premier League campaign, despite equipping Brendan Rodgers with no replacement for Andy Carroll. Liverpool have ignored a number of players, including Owen, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Tuncay Sanli to leave Rodgers with two senior strikers and unable to call Carroll back until January.

The denial of Rodgers' request for Clint Dempsey is a result of the failure to adhere to the football management structure agreed by the Fenway Sports Group when the Northern Irishman was appointed in June, rather than an unwillingness to spend. John W Henry's open letter to supporters also provided the latest of the owner's frequent communications about the club's determination to adhere to Uefa's Financial Fair Play .

Sports lawyer Daniel Geey, of Field Fisher Waterhouse, offered the view yesterday that Liverpool may be concerned about complying with FFP and that if clubs running up £100m losses find themselves excluded from Europe, those who comply may qualify in their places.

The part in bold is very interesting.

It is but I don't hold out any hope that uefa will enforce FFP much. They really aren't going to throw City out of the CL.

The aim for FSG has to be running the club as a good business. Spurs seem to be a great example of this. I'd rather be like them than United. If FSG can take advantage if Liverpool's commercial potential, then we will get better. It's another reason why I think Dempsey could have helped, a shirt seller in the States.

It will be very interesting to see how UEFA acts when FFP comes in as there's a few clubs that won't fall in line in time.

To be fair they have been trying to run the club properly. They cut some of they high earners like Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy. I mean Carragher and Cole are both on 100 grand a week since the Hicks and Gillet days which just shows how bad a state the club was in when they took over. Dempsey would have sold shirts but i get the impression Fulham really didn't want to sell to us and he wouldn't have solved our striker shortage either.

So, who goes first? Rodgers or Boas? My money's on Brendan only because I think Levy has more patience.

Well, Henry said he's giving Rodgers time and when you compare the scenario of each manager it's pretty clear who'll get sacked first if anyone. That being AVB, of course.

Borini playing out on the wing is just silly. Drop Suarez, give the donkey a wake-up call.

I agree. Borini needs to be in the middle. I don't think we have the back up to drop Suarez. I would still play him on the flank though.

Can't wait for Match of the Day tonight. It seems that Buttner had a good game and given how infuriating Evra's form has been lately I'm keen to see how he got on.

Champions League proper starts this week too, well worth putting up with the international break now that the good stuff is starting to roll now.
