Domestic football - spam version

Been awhile, a few things;

  • Tonight's performance from Chelsea was dreadful, the players just didn't seem to care with a few exceptions.
  • This season is the last chance I'd give Torres.
  • Hazard's fucking fantastic, better than I thought he was going to be.
  • I still have love for Roberto Di Matteo.
  • Tottenham won't finish in the top four, no matter who they sign.
  • Utd have been rather silly, signing RvP over a MUCH-needed midfielder.
  • QP-R-shite... see what I did there?
  • Swansea might be even better than last year
  • Liverpool would be so much better with a decent striker that can finish.
  • And Arsenal...

I'm embarrassed to be a Liverpool fan. We couldn't buy a piss up in a brewery. Gutted for Rodgers but at least Sterling and Morgan will get real chances.

I think Rodgers should shoulder some of the blame too.

Clearly, he had two targets and two targets only, putting all his eggs in those baskets while letting the whole world and his dog know that. Then to compound that mistake, he had no back up deal like he had had with Assaidi.

But as I have said before I am not all that disappointed about not getting either Dempsey or Sturridge - one is too old and the other loves himself too much.

Not only will it give the likes of Sterling, Morgan, Suso, Pacheco and Yesil more chances, it might remind a few that we already have plenty of central midfielders - Gerrard, Allen, Shelvey, Henderson, Cole, Lucas (when fit) and the seemingly forgotten Sahin.

To be fair, why would we want Clint Dempsey anyway? We've a hoard of midfield players, good ones at that, last week we played some excellent football and if it weren't for two mistakes at the back we could have defeated the Premier League Champions. Our midfield above any other position is fine, we don't need an American attacking midfielder who is only a year younger than Gerrard, if we need midfielders we need young ones who can grow and prosper over the next few years, such as Sterling, Shelvey and Henderson.

Only issue we have is a lack of strikers. Truth be told, we have one first team striker and he isn't the best when it comes to sticking the ball into the back of the net. Daniel Pacheco isn't of the level yet to be brought up when Suarez gets injured or Suarez needs a rest. We need a striker who can come in, sit on the bench and be ready to fire when he gets called up.

I said it several times last night, to everyone and anyone who'd listen, not simply for nostalgia preferences anymore, bring back Michael Owen. He is sitting at home, we know he can score goals, we know he'd love a return to Liverpool and he knows that he'll play semi-regularly because Suarez has to get tired at some point. He is a free agent, all you got to do is pay him his wages and sign him to a one year contract.

I think the likes of Morgan, Yesil and Pacheco could pick up any slack for Suarez and Borini, although I would not be overly adverse to signing Owen on a short term deal so long as he does not over-value himself.

Shanghai Shenhua have apparently released Drogba as they can't afford to pay his wages.

Liverpool bound? No. But stranger things have happened, and he'd be an absolute coup.

Morgan is good for the reserves, but he hasn't enough quality. From what I've seen of Pacheco he still has a long way to go, I liken him to how some fans viewed Neil Mellor when he scored us like three goals in three games seven years ago - you'll get a couple goals out of him, but not consistently. I've never seen Yesil play, so I can't comment, but with the supposed release of Drogba, availability of Owen and possible further departure of Anelka from Shanghai Shenhua, Rodgers would be a fool not to look at some free agents.

I don't think Drogba or Anelka can sign for any English teams due to being released after the transfer window. The fact that we are pretty much expected to compete for 4 trophies with no experienced strikers on the bench is scary. Leaving Pacheco in the reserves would do nothing for him at his age but then again relying on him Morgan and Yesil for backup doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence.

Id like to see Suso get a chance in the first team but he's got less then a year left on his contract and probably won't get a chance until signs a new deal.

Im glad we didn't sign Dempsey and to be fair i don't think Fulham wanted to sell to us after we approached Dempsey without their permission. Although apparantly we offered 4 million + Henderson for Dempsey Thursday night which is just depressing.

It's going to be a long season and were not going to get near 4th spot this season.

They can, we signed Sol Campbell after he was released in OCtober a few years back.

Think Adkins changed his system a little too much with his substitutions. Invited Utd onto them in the last ten minutes and history shows that when you do that, you are liable to get punished.

As for Liverpool, they played like Arsenal do at their worst - get the ball up to the box and then not know what to do with it, looking for an extra pass instead of shooting.

And then the real problem of BR's philosophy of "no big man" was revealed when he took off a striker, who he was playing out of position, and replaced him with a winger, who is supposed to be renowned for his crossing but had no one to cross to because there was "no big man." When Plan A fails, revert to Plan A.

Only in the last five minutes when we were 2-0 down did we start shooting and could've scored a couple.

FUck that ref was shit but stil 1-1 was a fair result as we were shit too.

From all the football I have seen so far this season, despite suggestions that they were going to clamp down on shirt-pulling and general obstruction and man-handling in the box, I have seen no evidence of it being enforced.

It happened twice against us today but no penalties.

Also Arsenal fans seem VERY better about van persie.

It isn't true. You know why? They are United fans. It's their job to remind you of our bad luck.

Glad Hulk didnt go to Chelsea. Can't understand why he went to Russia though. What a great deal by Porto though.

The way people are talking, it is like we missed out on buying one of the best players in the world. It was Clint fucking Dempsey, who is 29 and isn't even a striker. The same problems of squad balance would still be there if he had signed.

Would actually like to see Suarez deployed on the wing with Borini playing as the striker rather than the other way around.

As for free agents, of all of those who are available (Drogba isn't yet), I would probably take Del Piero over them all.

I agree, the Dempsey thing is being blown massively out of proportion. And I thought Borini would play ahead of Luis, can't believe we are playing him on the wing. I am disappointed Morgan didnt get a chance on the bench on Sunday.

The squad balance is poor but this goes past not keeping Carroll. I don't blame the owners, I blame Ian Ayre for not being able to negotiate his way out of a paper bag and Comolli for going nutty with the cash last year. John Henry did the right thing by coming out and "talking" to the fans. I'm so annoyed with the fan reaction.

I don't want Michael Owen anywhere near the club again. I'd rather have Anelka or even Drogba (if the chance arises).
