I'm inclined to agree. Originality is always encouraged at simply being something extra used to tell this guy from that guy. He is not particularly stand-outish anymore. Were it not for the fact we are all quite familiar with his stellar ability, he could otherwise just as be Mr. FCW Anybody.
The significance of it, though, is that it is meant as a sudden change. He had a great run working with Edge but when that ended his momentum stalled. As a way of pushing him back to the forefront of people's minds they have imposed this sudden change forging a new no-nonsense path for him from here until he has some sort of challenge.
But I, as you, do wish they could have given him something a bit more colourful whilst maintaining his virility, something to help him say 'Hi, I'm Dolph Ziggler'. Shame.
