Do you think CM Punk is overrated?

Yes. I believe him to be a sloppy worker, which is something most of his defenders across the galaxy seem to avoid.

Even if God comes down, puts on tights and cuts promos like Piper and flies like Morrison and has the charisma of HBK and has the technical prowess of Angle...

we would still have this thread.

I thought he was overrated several months ago, but now I'm kinda understanding the hype. I don't think he's anything special in the ring, but he has good mic skills.

I think the IWC overrates him, the WWE for a long time underrated him (but are now overreacting to him), and I have him pegged exactly for what he is.

He is overrated and i'm sick of his smarks acting as though he is the best thing out. And use the cheers he gets as proof. Fact is he is no different in character than Cena. The only reason he is getting cheered is because it is somethign fresh away from Cena. Same reason Randy Orton was cheered when he feuded with Cena. But the fact is Cena is way better than punk. He IS better on the mic and in the ring. The only problem with Cena is his selling. It sux. But he really looks like someone who can F u up when he is mad so he suits his role. When someone can direct me to one good promo by punk that isn't his so called "shoot", and a match with an arsenal of moves then i would believe the hype. He is OK just not as the IWC is making him out to be. He is NOT the next face of the WWE.

What exactly is he, Sly?

Right now (and, barring something drastically changing, in the future) he's in the Chris Jericho role. He's a respected hand, someone the WWE can count on to be solid in whatever they ask him to do, but probably never going to be the head of the company, and probably be overshadowed as the champion (as he is now). He'll bounce back and forth between the upper midcard and the main-event, depending upon if the WWE needs a fresh face. He'll be better working as a heel, but can work as a face if the WWE needs him to.

Like I said, the best way to describe him is as the next guy playing the Chris Jericho role. Which is not bad at all, but it's not what the IWC seems to think he is.

I'd put him a baby-step above Jericho. The WWE seems to have more trust in Punk as a main event face than they ever did Jericho.

Moreso than making Jericho the first undisputed champion in history, beating out Austin and Rock in the same match?

Punk is getting his run now, but if things are as bad as they've been reported to be, and things don't get better, I don't think the WWE will give him this kind of focus again for a while.

I see that as nothing more than your run-of-the-mill heel BS. That puts Jericho on the same plain as a young Kurt Angle, but not much else.

Of course. You could say it's the equivalent of Jericho beating Rock and Austin. But that is kind of my point.

Yeah the more I think about it, the more I see where you're coming from. Jericho, at his peak, was seemingly given a huge accomplishment to put him over. But he was still playing second fiddle to the bigger program(Hogan/Rock.) Much like what's going on today with Punk and Cena/Rock.

I'm trying to think of a reason to put Punk on a higher level than Jericho, but I got nothing.

The face champion thing works for me. I'm going to put that one on a pedestal until Punk-Austin gives me something better to gloat about.
