Because, even though I like IE, it is the shits. They have no kind of good addons whatsoever.

I understand popups. I mean, someone has to help pay to host these sites.

Popup does not equal virus, at least, not usually. I've got massive protection and have never been flagged for any viruses coming from WZ. Annoying, but safe.
