mad props to punk tonight for payin tribute to the late great macho man by wearing a look alike replica of his trunks. the only wrestler tonight to do that in any type of way beside the video montage :worship:

i have a new found respect for cm punk, to pay tribute to the macho man the way he did was great i am surprised a lot of the other superstars didn't something similar, thoughts

I noticed the bright pink tights of punk were a little more flashy than he normally has. But then I recalled Macho Man's Wrestlemania 3 tights and they are pretty similar.

Even if its not a tribute, its still awesome. And so was the tribute video. All it needed was a really early induction announcement. Hell if they can already have the main event for next year they can do that too...

I totally agree with you. Rey also seems to be paying respect as he is in all black. CM Punk is under-rated much like Macho Man was. Macho Man had the shadow of Hulkamania and Punk has Super Cena. I have been a Punk fan for a while now and this just increases it.

That was 100% amazing. A class move. I love that Punk always has different trunks and absolutely loved his Macho tribute.

CM Punk is a true student of the game.

Agreed I was digging the CM Punk/Macho Man trunks like tribute to Savage. Good stuff from CM Punk tonight. Loved the Video as well.

Yeah i noticed that. Cm Punk is like a fan while being a superstar. You can tell the fans love him too. Anyone see last night when he did that macho man taunt on the turnbuckle and went for the elbow?

Props to CM Punk, he's not the nicest man, but he's definitely a good man. I'm glad he was given the main event, so the little kiddies can see how good of a man he is.

I've respected what Punk's been doing for a really long time but tonight, i gained a great deal of respect for Punk. It's obvious that Punk knows his history and how important so the superstars can be to the fans and to give the fans and Macho Man, that little bit of a nod was a great thing to see.

CM Punk is awesome anyways! His tribute to Macho Man was great, anyone catch him at Over The Limit, when he went to hit Kane with the elbow from the top he did the "vintage" Randy Savage pre elbow pose! R.I.P. Macho Man!

what punk did tonight was great... but, if you look back, he wears the trunks with the stars on the butt quite often, still a class move though

It was great, & not surprising. Punk is one of the few guys who really appreciates the history of the business, & I think he was probably a big fan of the Macho Man, judging by his reaction on twitter to Savage's death. I marked out when I saw the pink trunks & yellow boots. Classic stuff.

I, like the rest of you, have gained more respect for CM Punk than I already had. I didn't think he could earn anymore respect to be honest. He is a hell of a performer and now we see he is a helluva man. He didn't have to do that at all. He ran a SMALL risk of hurting his heel character but with the love we have all showed the Madness, that was probably not a factor at all.

What I also love, is the fact Vince let him do it. Not only that they didn't force it on us from Cena who I almost swore that he was going to come out with something about Savage or even talk about him.

I just like the fact someone other than Super Man did it, I feel like it was a good move by WWE brass. Hell, honestly I feel like WWE didn't have much to do with it. Most likely it was all Punks idea.

At least Punk didn't put shame to those trunks, Punk is pretty damn good at what he does and now I will truely hate to see him go.

VINCE or ANYONE involved somehow see our pleas to keep this man. Let him keep his name. The man is worth what ever he wants. He has been helping put over main event faces in a huge way in the past year plus!!

Dig it!!!

Great move on the part of Punk. The best of today, paying tribute to the best of yesterday.

Great to see Punk rocking that classic 1987 Macho Man attire. Wrestlers of today could learn a lot from Savage. For instance, Savage always wore bright colorful attire. He always stood out from the crowd. No one else looked like The Macho Man. Wrestlers of today should take note: You don't all have to wear black trunks with some generic design on them.

If you want to get noticed, then be like Mach. Be different. Stand out. Let's bring some color back to wrestling.

I agree.

That is what made it work for Stone Cold because in an era of flashy colors and crazy characters Austins plain black look was appealing to all of us because we could relate to him. Nothing fancy, just a 9-5 beer drinker that hated his boss and thats what a lot of us are.

However, nowadays everyone seems to just be bland and not stand out at all. Kofi Kingston is one of the few that wear colorful things. Rey Rey is another. Both of them have one thing in common. A pretty decent fan following.

Savage was just so damn flamboyant from his music to his beard, to his attire, to his voice. He was just out there and man it was awesome.

its not that he wore it with stars on... its that he wore purple trunks and drew gold markers up and down his legs like the long boots that macho wore...

Also if you look at the site, you'll see that he came to the ring on a house show with "Macho" written onto his wrists instead of the x's..

He wore the tribute tonight as a way to thank macho man, but didn't want to make it so overt that hey got cheered for it, or got overtly booed by a crowd thinking he was being a dick..

His way of doing it was understated (as i'm sure he wanted) and did give props to the people who understood what he was doing... It was a classy move and the right one to do

It was a classy tribute. He didn't have to break character or even speak about it. Just wearing that gear was more than enough. Well done by CM Punk.

The funny thing is that gear works for him. He could wear that all the time and it works. Few could wear pink and yellow but CM Punk can. Speaks to his character. I'm sure some people saw that and didn't make the connection to Macho Man.

It was cool, but I'm not surprised that out of everyone, he would be the only one to pay tribute like that. CM Punk is not just a wrestler, but he is a wrestling fan, in that he actually gives a damn and voices his thoughts, favorable or not. I'm sure even if there was no acknowledgement of Macho Man, he still would have done it. I mean, this is the same guy who blatantly wore a ROH shirt (specifically a Colt Cobana Tee) and pretty much implied that Flawless was a BP knock. CM isn't a mindless drone, getting lost in the hustle and bustle, and for that alone, I'm a fan. Bringing the point home, my love for the glory that is Punk tripled tonight, but then again, I expected no less.

this is my first post, i have read through at times but never registered/replied... the reason i chose this one as my first is because of how the tribute/ cm punk's tribute really got to me. i have been a die hard wrestling fan my whole life, and looking back i realized just how big a part randy savage was in that. he was always one of the most consistant, hardest working, and most charismatic wrestler you could ever ask for. just wanted to say thanks randy savage, and thank you all for welcoming me to the foruum!

I loved Punk's tribute to Macho Man. It was very fitting and awesome. And WWE made what may be one of my all-time favorite video packages. Unfortunately it appears that the WWE only got the rights to use "The Scientist" by Coldplay (the song that played in the 2nd half of the video for those that don't know) for the live airing on Raw as if you go to WWE.com right now, they have the video on there, and they have already taken "The Scientist" out and replaced it with some brand generic ballad type song that isn't near as good or fitting. What a shame :(

Along with everybody else, I think it was a VERY classy move by CM Punk. I really half expected Cena etc to be wearing a Macho Man shirt. Vince would be crazy to let Punk slip through his fingers, but as we all know, quite often Vince's ego gets in the way of what's right. Punk could be one of the major players for years to come, and even when he hangs it up, I think he will fit beautifully at the commentary table. I really enjoyed his work months ago, actually miss him on the mic. Call me crazy, but in years to come, he could grow into a Gorilla Monsoon/Jesse Ventura type roll.

And just on Randy, he was always my favorite growing up. Hogan may been regarded as the flagship of the WWF at the time, but without Savage, as either friend oor foe, he never would have climbed as high as he did, the Wrestlemania 3 bout against Andre may be what Hogan is best remembered for, but Savage helped keep Hogan as "The All American Hero" long after that.....

The thing that is a tragedy, is that it has taken Savage's passing, for people to realize and acknowledge what a legend and what a huge contribution the Macho Man had to the industry, and that is after largely disappearing off the wrestling radar for over 10 years (bar a short little thing with TNA). I hope in one respect, WWE will start to utilize it's legends a little more while they still have them....it would have been wonderful to have seen Savage be inducted into the HOF while he was still with us...instead we get people like Carey....a joke, and not a funny one

RIP Macho Man.....we lost a good one

Punk paying tribute to Savage like that was awesome. Punk is my favorite wrestler from this generation, and after paying tribute to one of the greatest to ever step foot in a wrestling ring like that, makes me respect him even more.

CM Punk clearly recognizes and respects those who came before him and allowed him to do what he does now. Punk is awesome.

R.I.P. Macho Man Randy Savage.

I was hoping someone would mention this....honestly, CM Punk doesn't get enough credit, Heyman is right, he's not utilized the way he should be. What he did on Raw was beyond classy, in the midst of this "PG ERA" an ode to the legend that only true; longtime wrestling fans would catch. Vince has been great with the video packages, but didn't give much time for wrestlers and legends to say their condolenses on camera. I'm guessing that regardless of his passing Vince still has some bad blood towards Savage. (He may have deflowered his daughter)Punk paid homage in his own way, and probably didn't give a shit that Vince or anyone else would care that he's wasn't in his Nexus colors. Punk needs this feud with Cena, WWE SHOULD be kissing his ass to get him to stay when his contract expires at the end of August. He's easilly the best heel persona in wrestling today, brilliant on the mic, and his in ring technique improves year by year. It's safe to say he's in his prime right now. If he leaves, it will be Vince's fault. It will be a damn shame to let him walk away, they should give him a reason to stay. I'm sure he doesn't want to go wrestle for Dixie in front of 200 people. Classy move by Punk tonight, glad I had the oppourtunity to praise him in other ways as well. He's come a long way since the guy we saw on the revamped ECW.

Randy Savage is and forever will be my favorite wrestler. C.M. Punk made my night with an awesome tribute. Not only did he wear the tights, and the yellow boots, but at times, he wrestled like Savage. I was waiting for an elbow drop, but it never happened. That pushed him over the edge with me as my favorite superstar working in the WWE.

well, he did attempt one last night, evern tho he didn't connect... cm punk is an amazing performer... he is one of the most hated in the wwe, yet he is a student of the game, and respects those who came before him. if vince lets him walk(which would kinds be reminicent of savage back in the day), he really needs an evaluation.
