Would Macho man work today?

Fuel The Fire

Getting Noticed By Management
Ok so this is a continue idea from would the old wrestlers work today in this day in age. My first one was with Ultimate warrior and alot of people said he would work but he would be more of a comedy jobber because people like cm punk and john cena would tear him up in promos.

Now im going to take a step in dangerous waters and call out the Macho man. Lets get a time machine pull him from his prime in Wrestlemania 3 and set him into days main events. Would his character work still?

His in ring wrestling skill would be top notch above the others no doubt in that.
Would his flamboyant colors still work and his original macho man savage promos work. Personal i think because of my age i would love it because he was awesome but it was a lil out there at times.

But would this type of a promo fit with other superstars today? Would he have to change it up or stay the same?

Also would his outfits work as well. They don't ware the same stuff like they did back in the 80s so i wonder would that still work for him?

So the question is, would macho man work into this day in age or would he have to change his character a little bit?

His character wouldn't change at all and would likely be even more successful now than it was years ago. His ring attire would be somewhat different. It evolved every few years anyways. Look at him in Memphis vs 2004 in TNA. He used to look more like a hillbilly, but in TNA he dressed more like Undertaker's last outlaw with the black cowboy hat & leather trenchcoat. But that's just what he wears, the man? The gimmick itself? It wouldn't change, and people today would like it even more than they did then. Randy Savage's popularity has grown, not faded since he was last in the ring.

If you listen to Warrior's youtube tribute he did to Savage after he died, Warrior tells a great story of how he and Savage used to outdo each other in terms of who could be the most intense in the ring and behind the mic. They'd get together and between the two of them down 4 canisters of coffee that were set out for the entire locker room. They'd be tweaking so hard before their interviews and in their matches they'd just go insane in the ring, it also lead to Savage being rumored to be a coke/heroine addict, when he did his now famous "Cup of coffee in the bigtime" promo. Fact is, he was just a tweaker.

Savage sporting Undertaker's Last Outlaw look years earlier.

Fact is, Savage is one of those guys that, unlike Hogan & Warrior, the more time passes the better he looks. Savage was the best wrestler of any major names of the 80's (that includes Ric Flair) and, like Ric Flair, his promo's from back then got better with age.

I think Macho Man may have seen some success if he had been a part of the industry today. He himself was tremendously talented so he would have found a way to get over. The gimmick itself? Not so sure. We live in a time when anything weird gets shot down by the main eventers in their promos. Macho Man would have to try a different promo style and different outfits to get into the main event scene today. As the same character he had in the old days he would end up like Lethal's clone of that character over in TNA. Stuck in the midcard or in random tag teams. Weird characters struggle to fit in today compared to back then. Legit talent gets you over though and Macho Man had that both in the ring as well as on the mic. He would find a way to get over in today's wrestling world.

Randy Savage never really had a gimmick as such, he was just the living embodiment of charisma. Would he wear bright colours and a big hat now? Probably not. Would he be giving innovative promos and wrestling in a flamboyant style? Absolutely. The only difference is that now he'd probably never be a heel, as we have moved away from the arrogant flashy heels to "intense" people like Randy Orton.

I am/ was a huge Randy Savage fan. He came at a time when the biggest star was Hogan and he still managed to become an icon in his own right. I have to say talent in ring style, his abilities are timeless and would fit in with any roster. His promos ? Never dull not always understable, but entertaining. His wardrobe ? I see nothing really wrong with it, Flair's been rocking the frilly cape look since forever. People don't really care about you wear to the ring, it's what you do in it, imo anyway.

The only thing he couldn't get away with is how he treated Elizabeth onscreen when he was a heel. Women's groups among others would freak that young boys would see and possibly emulate the way he treated her onscreen.

Randy Savage was my Idol back in the WWF in the 1980's and 1990's and when he went to WCW and when he made his brief stint in TNA, but I will go on record and say Randy Savage IMO was a bigger star then Hulk Hogan but back to the topic Would Macho Man work today I think his gimmick would work today his promos were so great that when I watch promos today they do not compare to his he was just so great on the mic that you knew you were going to see something in his match after he was finished speaking with Mean Gene, Savage was so charismatic If he was in the WWE right now I think '' The Viper '' gimmick would fit him Savage so well, lets face it Savage was out of his mind some times and that worked in his favor in his matches just like Randy Orton I look at Orton as the new Savage and like Cena I look at him as the new Hogan Cena is the All American Good Guy and Orton like Savage was both Heel and Face well, I would have loved to see Randy In The WWE as Ortons Manager or his adviser If Vince would have allowed Savage in The WWE but that won't happen now but '' Macho Man '' Randy Savage should be inducted in to the Hall Of Fame in 2012 along with His Brother and Father.
