Chris Daniels the higher power

Just watched Vince russo's review of raw this week and he said chris daniels was meant to be the higher power but VKM didnt like him so it didnt happen.
In my opinion i think this would have been a terrible idea as the higher power was meant to be someone who controlled the undertaker and Daniels was a nobody at the time and you wouldnt have been able to take him seriously.

I was never really a fan of his anyway so i don't think he could have done a good job in the role and he was probably green as grass back then i only ever thought he was entertaining when teaming with kaz, i thought his mic work wasnt good enough so it definitely wouldn't have been strong enough to carry this angle. I'm glad we didn't get Daniels as the higher power as we would have missed the famous words "IT'S ME AUSTIN".

What are your thoughts on Chris Daniels as the higher power?

They should've went with him. It would've created a new star instantly. By 1999, I was done with the Austin/McMahon saga. It dragged out to levels of stupidity imo. Vince McMahon became too overexposed. A new talent in that spot would've been more beneficial. Daniels was and has been for sometime 1 of the best wrestlers of the last decade and a half or so. WWE not only would've created a new character but could've had a great wrestler and athlete on their hands for years and decades to come (as Daniels still wrestles good and keeps in great shape).

But I guess wrestling fans like stupidity so most would say, "Vince was the best choice." Proof is in the Hardy stuff in TNA-Although that is great epic over the top stuff. But I still say a 50yr old Vince getting so much TV time back then, a royal rumble win, a championship win is just as Russo-Arguette WCW bad. Russo was involved in WWE when those things happened, so I guess Russo played an influence in Vince's overexposure every week. Non-wrestlers need to be limited to how much exposure they get imo. If you're not a trained talent, get off TV and let the people who trained to be wrestlers shine.

The way Daniels was used in WWF at the time, he just would not have been believable. He only showed up to get squashed. If he was supposed to be the "higher power", he would not have gotten squashed like he did. And, once the reveal happened, he would have disappeared like Mark Copani did.

Do not weep for Daniels. He has had an exceptional career. One of the few who proved that one does NOT need Stamford to be a star.

Up until the reveal, I was hoping that Ted Dibiase would have been the higher power. The clue given was that the higher power was someone from Austin's past, which Ted most certainly was during the Ringmaster days.

Chris Daniels wasn't nearly as relevant at that time as he is today, so I'm pretty sure that Vince Russo is just saying random bullshit to generate buzz. All I had seen of Chris Daniels around that time was one match where he was a jobber, and when he was Bret Hart's sparring partner on an episode of Later with Cynthia Garrett.

This is kind of like saying that Lodi was supposed to be the third man at Bash at the Beach, or that Barry Horowitz was really The Undertaker's brother at Hell in a Cell, or that Fred Ottman was The Black Scorpion the entire time. The higher power angle wasn't the best, but it would have been a Hell of a lot worse if they didn't at least give us a big name person to reveal. Vince McMahon was easily predicted to be the higher power, but it had to be someone of his on-screen caliber.

I don't believe this for one second. Chris Daniels was a no one at that point. He was going to be involved in the the biggest angle in the company? There's no way.

More likely that VKM had never heard of this person and Russo imagined this whole episode.

Chris Daniels sounds like an insane choice at the time. Then again pretty much anyone would have been a better higher power than Vince in the long term. His reveal basically killed the entire thing. Did make for a memorable moment. But it just didn't make any sense. "Oh hey, I'm going to let the Undertaker try to rape my daughter to...somehow get at Austin...?"

Speaking of better Higher Powers:

Jake the Snake would have been great if they could bring him in, get him to rehab, and put a little faith in him. Could have changed everything. He had everything you needed. Austin got famous by mocking him in the Austin 3:16 promo. And Vince "abandoned" and failed him at a time in his life when he needed helped. The Undertaker has talked before about learning a lot from Jake Roberts. He could have made the Higher Power storyline legendary by brainwashing Vince's children, getting back at Austin, and helping The Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness rule the company for a short while. Could you imagine it?

Think that would have been an amazing storyline as jake's one of the top guys on the mic but i think the state he was in at that time made it impossible to do but it would have been the most logical choice as everything u said makes sense.Dont know what russo was thinking when suggesting Daniels but then again i understand when you watch some of the wcw stuff.

From the moment the whole higher power angle began I knew that Vince would be the one pulling the strings. I won't speculate on how it should've went. But to reveal Daniels as the mastermind would've fell flat. Anything that Russo says makes him look foolish, regardless of whether it's true or not. Daniels could've been a part of the Ministry as a disciple, but not a focal player.

I don't think anyone would have taken Christopher Daniels seriously as the higher power, the only other person that Vince McMahon who I thought it might have been was The Jackal/Don Callis.

I could be wrong but wasn't Christopher Daniels jobbing on Heat/Shotgun Saturday Night when this angle was taking place?

I was going on Google to see if there was another Christopher Daniels that wrestled in 1999 because it sure as shit couldn't have been the one who was in TNA that Russo would've suggested.

Didn't Russo take the piss out of him just being only interested in 5 star matches rather then character in one of his "shoot" interviews.

Fuck it, why not go the whole hog and say he originally suggested it was AJ Styles that was behind GTV but Vince misheard his NEW YAWK accent (bro) and made it Gtv instead

Seriously, fuck Russo, that no talent bullshit spewing cunt, I just feel sorry for his kids
