Changing the Focus: Maryse

There has been a lot of buzz over the past several weeks about how Ted DiBiase's career is going no where and the IWC is always debating and questioning how he can be saved.

I am changing the focus from Ted DiBiase to Maryse.

Maryse came to the WWE scene after the 2006 RAW Diva Search. Despite being eliminated, she began training and observing workouts and was in the process of becoming a WWE Diva.

Althroughout 2006-2007 she had sexy vignette promos airing on SmackDown, but she was rarely ever on. Starting in 2008, she became a regular Diva, adopting a heel persona on SmackDown. In late 2008, Maryse showed promise in the ring and became the second Diva ever to become the WWE Divas Champion.

She carried the Divas Champion into RAW and held it until she was injured. When she returned from injury, she won the vacated Divas Championship in 2010 making her, at the time, the first 2 time Divas Champion. Since losing the title she aligned herself with Ted DiBiase, a inherited millionaire. Since then her career has, in my opinion, fallen into a dark black pithole.

I am a huge Maryse fan, I believe she, with a little more in ring work, has what it takes to become a top tier Diva like Trish Stratus. She is gorgeous, has a mean streak and a good offensive set of moves. She is not a "bad" wrestler (in my opinion from several of her older matches, like the match where she first defeated Michelle McCool to win the Divas title). I believe that being with Ted DiBiase has really downgraded her from being an independent full-of-herself bitchy heel Diva, to a gold digging coward.

1. How can Maryse be saved?
2. Do you see potential in Maryse?
3. How would you book Maryse to go back on the scene, or on the rise in the Divas division?

On a side note, I really love Maryse's French TKO finisher, it looks like a great and effective version of Trish Stratus's Chick Kick. I think it should be used more often.

Well since Melina turned heel again, i guess Maryse should turn face because she already faced most of the face divas and i see a lot of potential on her. Turning her face, winning a number one contender match and being traded back to smackdown should do it. I Love MAryyyse

I love Mayrse I would marry her if I could haha. That being said I think if Melina doesnt go over Natalya which is going to happen IMO Mayrse will be the next challenger. Mayrse is very solid in the ring and I would mind a program with her and Natty.

100% agree. She needs to ditch Ted asap.

Not a fan of turning her face, i think Natalya is going to beat Melina and retain anyways, so hopefully we see Maryse get a chance. But then you also have LayCool, Kong and Beth Pheonix also potentially vying for the title.

Here's a scenario for you, Maryse drafted to SD!, challenges Kaitlyn to a match, with her guaranteed title match she won due to winning NXT on the line. Maryse dominates, challenges Natalya, and wins.

Well if the current angle continues its course more than likely she will leave Ted and go back fully into the Divas division. Really I felt like this thing with Ted was a two fold plan, one to get Ted over by giving him a hot valet and two to get Maryse away from the Divas title scene for awhile so she could come back into the title picture fresh.

Yes, yes, and yes! Maryse is one of my favorite divas wrestling today, and I think she has great potential to become a Trish Stratus-esk female icon in the wrestling industry. But potential is rarely lived up to in the world of women's wrestling. Mickie James could have been an all-time great, but she couldn't get her act (or weight) together. Tara is strong and dominate and plays a wicked heel, but she won't work for the WWE again, and has to play second banana to the shrieking banshees in TNA. Gail Kim was supposed to be this legendary diva, but showed up and did nothing for herself.

I'll admit the product and the writers don't do anything to give the divas a fighting chance, but most of the women in the wrestling world today are models first, gimmicks second, and wrestlers last and most certainly least. But Maryse has the beauty, the character, AND the ability. She's the rare combination of talent and look. Personally I don't think the Ted DiBiase angle has slowed her down. Nobody cares about the divas anymore, and many people use their segments as a bathroom break. But putting her with Ted insures her face-time in a scene where LayCool was running wild on BOTH shows at the same time. It also gives her more experience working as a manager, which is something many divas have to do to survive in the wrestling world (take the Belle Twins for example). But I will say that Maryse definitely deserves to be on the top of the diva ladder.

Personally, I would love to see the DiBiase angle dissolve completely with her getting the push. But I would like her to stay as a heel and challenge somebody like Beth Pheonix or Natty Neidhart. She plays the heel too well to give it up.

Blaming Maryse for Ted not getting over is bullshit. Think about it: from day one this guy has failed to get a reaction from the fans. They were lukewarm on him in Legacy and after that angle ended he has been ice cold. They put Maryse, who is a) smokin hot and b) good at generating stuck-up-bitch heel heat, with him. Still nothing. What does this tell you?

The problem is Ted himself: HE IS BORING. He looks bland, he's bland in the ring, he's bland on the mic. I'm starting to think he only has a job because of his name.

I agree that the TEd issue is the fault of Ted himself and his gimmick. Maryse in an awesome competitor. She come from the diva search not knowing how to do a wrist lock and now she is probably one of the 3 top female wrestlers in the company. As heel she has everything to succeed, especially when she starts speaking in french. If you put her with a guy that actually can be pushed (say McIntyre) she will bring him to the top. Personally she is my favorite diva in activity, not only because of her perfect looks but also because of what she brings to the table wrestling and mic wise.

Maryse is really awful in the ring which could be one of the reason she has been valet to Dibiase so she could shine for what she is good at, looking ridiculously hot. I remember watching one match on Raw when she was out of breath during a 5min match. Definitely not ppv worthy champion.

Well, if the latest Raw is anything to go by, it definitely looks as if they are about to split.

Maryse lost to Nat and starting going nuts, Ted came out and she said its because of him always losing (like losing to a rookie on NXT) that she lost.

Should be good to see how this plays out.
