Carlito and Santino

They tagged together in a time when the tag team champions of Raw were... Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes. What a boring fucking tag team they were. They held the blets for over 200 days, hardly ever defending the belts. During that time, they did feud with Santino and Carlito, with S/C even winning in a non title match over them. In a time when title belts change more often than Milenko's name, why were they not given a 1-2 month reign, before HArdcore was kicked to the curb in favour of Teddy Dibiase?

I obviously don't know the exact reasoning, but I can guess that it had something to do with Hardcore being among Vince's favorites (in the same class as Val Venis and Jim Duggan). Holly never really did anything big before the whole story with Brock, and failed to do anything after, so I think it was a pairing of convenience. Vince liked seeing him on TV, and Cody needed the belt to work the angle with DiBiase.

Also, I'm not that big a fan of Carlito or Santino, so it could have been that they sucked that bad.

Simple: Santino and Carlito were a comedy team while Rhodes and Holly, while boring, were a serious team. This is the same issue that people had with Santino as IC Champion the second time around. Having guys like that with titles makes the belts look silly. With a team like Rikishi and Rico, the epitome of a silly team, Rikishi was a somewhat dominant force and Rico wasn't bad at all. With Santino and Carlito, there were a few issues. First of all, the Santino character isn't a good wrestler. he's a comedy act and is never on TV in anything other than bad comedy skits anymore, and I include his matches lately in that grouping. Carlito was about as close to being fired as you can be while not actually being fired. They were a team for all of a month or so as you said, which is the other issue. Just because two guys are thrown together like that and get a cheap win, that doesn't mean they belong in the title picture. In any sport if a weak team beats a powerhouse, that doesn't immediately mean they're better. The tag division is in such a mess today that havign another comedy team would have hurt it even more, and since then Vince seems as if he's at least trying to fix it a bit. Carlito and Santino would have held them a short time and made them look even worse.

Aside from what KB and NSL said from a kayfabe viewpoint they were split in the 2008 draft and a month after this Primo arrived. So simply the reason why they split was so that Carlito could have an angle with his brother.
