And yes X, Sam Mendes is good. Much like Mick Foley. Any thoughts on American Beauty?
I'm sure I'm extremely predictable in saying this, but American Beauty is definately one of my favorite films, ever. From start to finish it is absolutely perfect in every way a movie possibly could be. Not a single flaw to be found, the definition of a five star classic.
Rewatched Rear Window and gave a first time viewing to Miller's Crossing last night. First of all, I'm always astonished by how well Rear Window holds my attention for film that essentially takes place in one room and looks outward from one angle. Just a brilliant film.
Go read my review of Hitchcock's Rope in my movie review thread in the Movies/TV section. Another great Hitchcock film that takes place entirely in one room.
And yes, Rear Window is amazing. I remember watching it in a film class and really having my eyes opened to just how detailed of a movie it really is; how all of the different people outside represent all the different facets of human emotion; from love/lust (Miss Torso) to loneliness (Miss Lonely Hearts) to hatred (Mr. Thorwald). One of Hitchcock's best.
I can't believe I waited so long to see Miller's Crossing. First of all, Byrne is awesome and I really wanna see him in In Treatment now.
Took me a while to get to it as well, but my god isn't it just amazing? And I've been watching the 2nd season of In Treatment and Byrne is absolutely fantastic in it. Then again, is there anything that Byrne isn't amazing in?
But more importantly, the evolution of Tom through-out the movie was astounding. The evolution of the character isn't the whole of the beauty either but it was that it kept you guessing without the writers overplaying their hands and having the character spill his guts about every solitary feeling he had. Having such a somber lead character go through such changes in a film with so much happening without giving too much away (even after the action ended) was pretty cool. I loved it a lot and when I looked at when the movie was made, I was astonished at how well it's aged. It could have been made last year and I wouldn't have been shocked at that knowledge.
Yeah, top notch stuff from start to finish. The shots in the forest (the Miller's Crossing in the film's title) in particular are simply astounding. Great acting, great writing, great storytelling from start to finish. One of the Coen's most underrated flicks.
I'm in a cheesy action/Sci-Fi movie mood. I think I might throw on Starship Troopers. That movie NEVER gets old, ever.
