Bullshit about Movies

When Murfish and Ebert at the Movies hits prime time television, we'll see who's getting paid.

Mwahahahahahahahaha

Speaking of Cape Fear, I recently watched it for the first time. Couldn't watch it objectively because I've seen all those Sideshow Bob episodes of the Simpsons far too many times.

X, I want you to promise me that Delirious will be one of your reviews after you watch it this weekend. I'm excited to hear your thoughts on that. I really fucking loved that movie, and I think you will too.

You got it chief, it's scheduled to be recorded by my DVR tomorrow morning, so I'll probably end up watching it at some point tomorrow.

On the queue today it looks like I may watch Maria Full of Grace, Mad Max, or Platoon. Not sure what I feel like watching, but those are the three newest additions to my DVR. Seen Platoon a million times, but a million and one won't hurt. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I've never actually seen any of the Mad Max films.

Yeah.

Public Enemies kind of sucked. It wasn't really bad, but I expected a lot.

Expect repetitive dialogue, documentary-esque camera work, slightly disappointing production value(see previous), and a few good scenes.

I'm not going to complain about the plot if it's based on what actually happened.

Ahhh im too drunk to watch a new movie tonight the review thread must wait!

hyeah i'm pretty drunk. i'm even spellin things wrong!

That low? Really?

I was dying to see it, and made sure to see it on opening day, which is reserved for when I have to see a movie (see Dark Knight, Up).

I have to say, that the only good parts, are in the previews. There's maybe 5 total minutes of interesting stuff, and about 90 minutes of filler. Everyone that is in that movie, has done far better. Maybe that's why I expected more.

Malkovich gives an ace performance...But, when does he not?

Pitt's character started out funny. And, never evolved. Clooney's character just never clicked with me, and neither did the woman (I can't think of her name at the moment). Malkovich was great, but we all know that one good showing can't save a shitty film.

I usually always watch a movie twice, to make sure I didn't miss anything, but I don't think I'll do it with that one...

Characters don't always have to evolve(see There Will Be Blood).

I thought that was a good movie...But, the lack of change bothered me a little. It was very monotone throughout, until he finally met the priest again at his home, and where his son finally confronted him.

Good beginning, solid ending, but not too much meat in the middle. 6.5/10

Watched Revolutionary Road yesterday. I saw a bad bootleg version of it when it was first released, but still enjoyed it nevertheless. However, watching it in good quality made the experience that much more enjoyable. The film just contains some of the best acting you'll ever see (it's truly a fucking shame Leo didn't get nominated for this), and the relationship between DiCaprio and Winslet's characters is extremely compelling. It can get a bit slow at times, but overall... great movie that I highly recommend.

I also watched Hancock yesterday for the first time and it was much more enjoyable then I ever would've imagined. The plot had a few holes, so the film didn’t make much sense by the end, but it was still a very fun movie. Will Smith's awesome. I know it's cool to hate him nowadays, but I've been a fan since day one and will remain one forever, even when he does make some of the shittiest movies in history like Wild Wild West and Bad Boys. Hopefully sometime in the next couple of weeks I can see Seven Pounds.

Oh, and X... random opinion time. What did you think of Gone Baby Gone, and what would you have done if you were Casey Affleck's character at the end of the film?

Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to Revolutionary Road yet, but I plan on catching it soon. Sam Mendes can do no wrong, so I'm expecting great things.

Hancock is on my DVR right now, not sure when I'll get around to it. Looks like a fun little flick though.

Damn I haven't seen any of the films you're talking about today JMT, I kept meaning to watch Gone Baby Gone the ten thousand times it's been on Starz, but I never got around to it. It's on tomorrow though so I'll record it so I can answer your question than.

I'm watching Hitchcock's Rope right now, one of his most underrated films. I've got Delirious on tap as well, so I should probably get around to watching that either tonight or tomorrow.

It's a fun flick but it feels forced. Personally, I found that the story wasn't clicking cause I was expecting a superhero that just got drunk and shit. I won't say anymore so as not to spoil it, but Will Smith in it did a good job with what he got.

Revolutionary Road wasn't in all the theaters by me and my friends didn't want to see it for fear it would be a chick flick.

Gone Baby Gone was awesome. I also liked Casey in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

I heard that 7 Pounds sucked hard.

Has no one seen Public Enemies?

This weekend I'll probably be seeing it. I look forward to seeing Depp do something that isn't too over the top or quirky again. At least that's what I hope to see.

Revolutionary Road was ace. It put the characters through situations that tested their intentions, beliefs, and resolve and made you really invest in Leo and Kate. I'm not film expert, but I'd say it effectively accomplished what good cinema is supposed to.

And yes X, Sam Mendes is good. Much like Mick Foley. Any thoughts on American Beauty?

Rewatched Rear Window and gave a first time viewing to Miller's Crossing last night. First of all, I'm always astonished by how well Rear Window holds my attention for film that essentially takes place in one room and looks outward from one angle. Just a brilliant film.

I can't believe I waited so long to see Miller's Crossing. First of all, Byrne is awesome and I really wanna see him in In Treatment now. But more importantly, the evolution of Tom through-out the movie was astounding. The evolution of the character isn't the whole of the beauty either but it was that it kept you guessing without the writers overplaying their hands and having the character spill his guts about every solitary feeling he had. Having such a somber lead character go through such changes in a film with so much happening without giving too much away (even after the action ended) was pretty cool. I loved it a lot and when I looked at when the movie was made, I was astonished at how well it's aged. It could have been made last year and I wouldn't have been shocked at that knowledge.

BTW, is it just me or were there a lot of shots in there that made the settlings look really looooong? It gave a lot of scenes quite a good look.
