It's good in the same way that when you have a cavity you just continuously mash your tongue against it sending pain through out your body. It's good in a nerve damage kind of way.

You must have misread my post. I never said "good", I said "fun". Bruce Willis is in one of his worst roles ever, Milla had to get naked for her to be interesting, and the whole time, we just wanted someone to shoot Chris Tucker in the face. Didn't hurt to see Luke Perry die either.

I'm watching Frailty. Bill Paxton is the dude who goes crazy because his wife is dead, and tells his sons he has to kill those with demons inside of them. I'm fucking afraid of Paxton right now.

..but Matthew McConaughey is the narrator, and I'm trying not to laugh whenever I hear him speak. He's trying his best to be sad and reflective, but all of his other movies that I've seen are completely killing his credibility.

I fucking LOVE Frailty Razor. That's a great damn movie, have you ever seen it before? I won't spoil it for you if not.

Bill Paxton is the motherfucking man though, always has been.

I saw it a few years ago...but it was far enough back to where I don't remember it. He just now broke the news to the boys, and they're all confused. Paxton is a bad ass.

Fuck me, I know why Paxton creeps me out. I am really rather afraid of crazy fundamentalists. Like, I have to go kill people because they're possessed fundamentalists.

..And McConaughey is getting better. Though, for some reason I wanna watch To Kill A Mockingbird now. That's weird.

So I just got back from seeing (500) Days of Summer... and it is AWESOME! Fuck the critics, X; I promise they have zero clue what the fuck they're talking about. This film is pure entertainment from start to finish, and has a huge, HUGE heart, and some absolutely wonderful performances. I loved it.

I can't give it a rating though, because right now I would give it a 10 and I'm not so sure it that would hold up in the future. I'm going to have to wait to see it again before I determine where this film ranks with my all time favorites.

Marquis, if you read this... were you still able to see it? If so, what'd you think?

Currently watching Boyz In Da Hood right now, such an awesome movie and I can never get sick of it. At the part where Reggie gets shot and killed, some pretty powerful scenes right now.

I watched Kite Runner today. My girlfriend had been begging me for a few weeks, but I just couldn't do it. I thought it was going to be horrible.

It actually wasn't too bad. The scenes with Amir and Hassan as kids are by far the best, but the rest is also good enough. I'd say it's a solid 7/10.

I finally saw Gran Torino the other day. Pure epicness. I like the religious undertones, redemption, sacrifice, acceptance.

Clint Eastwood is amazing, I would prefer his not singing though.

I also finally saw Ironman. Why didn't you guys tell me to see it sooner.

I figured everyone had seen Iron Man by now. I mean, that movie just reeks of awesomeness, am I right?

Anyway, watching some Harold Loyd right now, getting ready to call my brother to see if I can borrow his Fatty Arbuckle collection for tomorrow night. My girlfriend loves the tubbies.

Nah gonna see it for sure though later today, a friend decided they wanted to come but couldn't yesterday, so we're going later today. Glad to here it was awesome, looking more forward to it now.

I've never seen Ironman. I always figured it was nothing more than CGI and explosions, so I never saw it in theaters. and I never got around to buying it on DVD, so there ya go.

Gran Torino is the shit. That's the first movie in I don't know how long to get me to verbally say "Oh fuck...he is not gonna do that..." just before the final scene once I realized what his plan was.

Oh, and "Dragon Lady" had me cracking up for ages. None of my asian friends would allow me to call them that though. :lmao:

I think I might try and watch Liar Liar today. I've never seen it but it's supposed to be funny.

And, is anyone interested in a thread like this but about books? If so I'll make one. I can't be the only person that reads around here.

They tried once to get one going in the Bar Room, it sorta got lost. Like Xfear's poetry thread. Shame, too.

There IS a book thread in the Cigar Lounge though. Just post about the book you're currently reading or whatever. At least, that's what I assume the point of that thread is. Should probably shoot a PM to fromthesouth asking him. He IS the mod of that section after all.

Maybe threads like the poetry one and book one should get stickied, so they don't get lost and people remember them. We could have a book thread, a movie thread, and a poetry thread. Maybe a TV thread too, or something.

The People Under the Stairs... I was thinking about this movie this morning and wanted to watch it. Have you ever seen it, X? I love it to death.

And I watched The International this morning... decent movie. There's an action sequence in a museum that is fucking epic. And there's some good acting, but Clive Owen sucks. I think it would've been much better with someone else at the helm.

Alright Jmt i got to see 500 days of summer, and it was fuckin awesome. A definite all time favorite for me.

It's not often that i find myself caring for a character in a movie, but i genuinely felt damn bad for Tom. Here you have some hopeless romantic going out with some chick who believes in no true love, or faith, or any of that shit. Then she leads the poor guy on like she actually feels something can happen between them, he thinks his fantasies are coming true, then she has the nerve to tell him lets be "friends". Really? Holding hands, having sex, making out, and that's being friends? Messed up, but i loved it.

The ending was great i thought, a real twist and clever. In the end she starts to get the gist of what Tom thought, and believe what Tom used to believe at the start of the movie(or similar to it), and Tom in the end starts thinking like how she used to at the start.

Tom taught me a real life lesson in that film, or the narrator. "Coincidence, that's all there is"

Of course I've seen People Under the Stairs JMT, must you even ASK? Great flick, one of Craven's most underrated. You seen Serpent and the Rainbow? Probably my favorite Craven flick ever. Yep, better than the original NOES in my opinion. I've got the guys autograph on my NOES DVD hanging next to my computer, I marked out like a five year old for Hogan in 1987 when I met him.

So sounds like you guys liked 500 Days of Summer eh? Still going to wait to rent that one I think. Something about it just strikes me like it's going to try far too hard to be quirky and indie. Anything with JGL is on my to-watch list though.

Not a fan of Clive Owen, eh? Why not? He was damn good in Children of Men and downright AMAZING in Closer. Have you seen Closer?

Agreed. It's personally my favorite from him.

You know... they were making a remake of it, but thank God it got put on the shelf.

Man, I haven't seen or thought about that movie since I was a kid. I'm going to see that as soon as I can.

That's fucking awesome, man. I would love to meet Tarantino and/or Scorsese.

I don't think it tried that at all. The film would've looked much gritter if that were the case.

But I'm pretty sure you're going to like the film once you see it. It's amazing man, truly.

Yes, I've seen both and that's my problem with him. The guy knows how to pick amazing roles, but I personally feel he's not worth the roles he chooses. In my opinion, he just doesn't play those roles as well as someone else would have. His intense scenes always come off as forced to me, and he's basically the same character in every single movie. There's no range with him whatsoever. None.

That's not true man, his character in Closer is completely different from any other of his "action-movie-hero" type of characters he usually plays. You can't say he wasn't great in Closer, he was jealous one minute, the picture of cool the next, he had a ton of range in that film. I'm not calling the guy the net De Niro or anything but he's certainly talented.

Closer's really the only film you can say that about him though, and he's done like 50 other films we've all seen.

But yes... Closer is by far his best performance. Still though, I could name 10 different actors right off the top of my head who would've done the role much better.

Like who? Personally I couldn't imagine anyone but Owen in that role. Especially during Portman's stripping scene. Owen portrayed the mixture of hurt, jealousy and lust all bubbling underneath his rage perfectly there. I honestly can't think of one other actor I could picture in that role. Owen is just so bleak in that film, he nails it perfectly IMO.

Anyways...anyone else excited for Funny People this week? Not sure how many Apatow fans there are here, I know he and guys like Rogen are blindly hated on by oh so many. This is the first film with Adam Sandler in it that I've been looking forward to in years. I really wish he'd take on some more serious roles, he was astounding in Punch-Drunk Love and Reign Over Me.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, Christian Bale, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix, etc.

There are others I could name, but most would probably call me insane for it. But those are names I think you would at least give consideration to being able to do the role just as well, or better.

Oh, and for the record, talking about Closer... one person I can't stand more than Clive Owen is Jude Law.

Well, here we go to agreeing with each other again. :D

I love every single Apatow production thus far, and I cannot wait for Funny People. Not sure if I'm seeing it this week, but I'm definitely catching it eventually. I've been avoiding all the trailers and commercials for it, which should so you how much faith I have in the names Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen to do that and still want to see the movie.
