Bragging Rights just a cheezy way to sell a video game

First off sorry if there is already a post about this topic. So i was thinking that this cheezy Survivor Series knock off is just a way to sell the Smackdown Vs Raw video game that comes out the Tuesday before the PPV.Now don't get me wrong i am a big junkie of the video game series but i think this is a very lame way to get sales for a video game.So do you all agree with me or do you think that i am over thinking the situtation?

I agree... theres nothing wrong with the title survivor series for a ppv, they are getting out of control with these match themed pay per views. its also probably the backstage politics never know but i really wish Vince mcmahon would put an end to this b.s before it entirely ruins pro wrestling.. They need competition but it will be a long time before tna or roh gets there.

First of all, Survivor Series is still happening in November. Also, what does this have to do with "backstage politics"?

Bragging Rights is replacing the Cyber Sunday name.

In all honesty though, I've seen worse "hit in the face" plugging than this. But it still isn't that subtle when they've got the game playing in the background of the match image/graphic they put up.

To be fair though on their end, there will no doubt be a small percentage of people that:

1. Didn't know the game was coming out.
2. Didn't know about the game.
3. Forgot the release date.

If they stock the game at the merch stand at the arena for Bragging Rights, mention it a few times throughout the show then I'm willing to bet that they will shift a good few more units before the night is over.

That being said, I'm a fan of the series and planned on getting the game regardless.

How is it getting more sales for the game? I fail to see any connection there whatsoever. If anything, Smackdown vs. Raw is just the name of the game that has pretty much nothing to do with a rivalry between the two brands. Hell, I'm surprised they haven't changed the name of the game now because there is pretty much nothing in the last... how many games that have had anything to do with "vs." It's just a name that's stuck throughout the years.

Bragging Rights has got absolutely nothing to do with selling the game itself. Nor is it a tie-in to the game. They're pretty much two things that really don't have anything to do with each other. The ONLY connection is that since it's the month WWE's yearly release is coming out, it "sponsers" the PPV. Just a way to promote their own product. It's hardly a marketing strategy that's being shoved down our throats or being done in any kind of "subtle" manner like you all seem to think. It's 1542% coinsidence.

As for the "Themed PPVs," I've said it once and I'll say it every single time this topic is brought up and then blugeoned to death... even though people have actually only seen TWO of these events. People constantly fucking bitched about the WWE being stale and not doing anything different. They're doing something different. Guess what? Everybody is still bitching. It really separates the actual true wrestling fans from those who just watch it weekly and attempt to discuss anything about it. Sit back, watch the product given to you, and shut the hell up. I can't wait til people start to bitch about "Elimination Chamber" and how it'll ruin the Elimination Chamber match seeing as it's been done pretty much the same way every single year since NWO seemed to have garnered the privlidge of having the EC matches on it on a yearly basis. Elimination Chamber is a horrible name, we know that. But that's for another thread and another day.

Well from my opinion it is actually a good thing that bragging rights (whether on purpose or accidentaly) promotes the game which is being released 2-3 weeks earlier than its normal launch date of second week in Nov. Will it help boost sales only if they start plugging the game. but usually the game sponsors survivor series , if they start plugging early than who knows maybe the game will be better than the ppv "dedicated" to plugging it.

I can't see how this is a problem. It's been a long time since there has been that rivalry between Raw and Smackdown. Sure, it's a little cheesy and an obvious way of selling a game but you can't chastise a company for advertising something in such a heavy manner when the item in question will earn them a hell of a lot of money. It does that anyway with small time exposure in "Sponsered by" ads... an entire PPV with that constantly on the mind... big time sales hit!

Despite how good a business decision it is, why are you letting it affect you. I watch wrestling with my girlfriend. She really likes it but she just isn't into gaming. I don't think she'll not bother watching just because of the connection to a video game. Just focus on the wrestling side of things.

2 themed Par Per View? Extreme Rules, Night Of Champions, Breaking Point, Hell In A Cell... I believe thats four. Anyway at least this one is just shameless plug written all over it, i fail to see the theme, other than the winners of their matches team up to face the opposing brand. It's one lousy match. For all we know it might lead us to a continuation at the Survivior Series. It's not bad that they are promoting the game, it means more money. Last I checked thats good business. At least its not a gimmick littered PPV. Which by the way desecrates the gimmick matches

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I was referring to the "new" themed events though. Nobody's bitching about Extreme Rules or Night of Champions though. Everybody's bitching about the new ones which I still don't understand. However, I want to try to stay on topic here so I won't go into any more detail about them.

How is this promoting the game? Anyone who thinks that is a very simple-minded person. When's the last time you even saw WWE pushing Smackdown and Raw as enemies, except for the WWE Draft? Aside from the title, it doesn't look as if this game will focus on brand supremacy as much as it will on user creativity. You barely know anything about the PPV or game, and yet you're condemning it? Bragging Rights looks to be shaping up as an excellent Pay-Per-View. I'm looking foward to see how the team dynamics of each brand will play out. This is a much better concept than Cyber Sunday, which could still be done on a 3-Hour Edition of Raw. Not only do you have to look at Smackdown and Raw, but you also have to take ECW into account. Don't automatically hate on stuff you don't know about. For all you know, Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 could very well be 5 naked old men dancing in chocolate pudding. You're going off of schedules and commercials here. Don't be so quick to diss everything the WWE does. Maybe, just maybe, this thread would've been better after Bragging Rights. But, since you decided to make this thread now, you look and sound like an illiterate dumbfuck. Congratulations.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the ONLY reason this ppv was made. I never understood why they replaced Cyber Sunday, a ppv that already had a solid and unique theme, and replace it with a ppv based around a concept that could've easily be used at Survivor Series (ex. Survivor Series '05). The only difference between this ppv and the game promoting it is that at least the game actually features ECW.

Meh. I wasnt complaining about the game, to me it doesn't matter what ambiance surrounds a Pay Per View, as long as it has good stories and great matches to me it doesn't matter. I like that WWE is trying something new with the gimmick PPV's, but they are exaggerating a bit, I mean we already had 4 this year and before it a whole year since the first gimmick PPV we'll have 2 more... Thats half a year's worth of stories with gimmick matches. That's a tad exaggerated.

Yeah, the Cyber Sunday PPV wasn't doing good with the buyrates, I heard smaller PPVs had better buyrates. Bragging Rights is just a way to shake things up. Hopefully they reduce the Gimmick PPVs to just 3 a year. As for Bragging Rights, its OK.

I love the video games and I'm glad WWE is pushing their product, but to name a PPV for it and all that is just dumb. It'll probably work, but I'm just saying it's a dumb way to put a game over. Just have more commercials or something.

I doubt it because the game will sell just as well, no matter what the PPV that is closest to the game release date is. Question: Do you think that people would buy more copies, if they in fact kept it as Survivor Series, typically one of the biggest PPV's of the WWE wrestling calender? I think so. I think you have got it wrong and I think that this game is going to do well anyway, regardless of what PPV is close to it.

PPVs are always a shameless way to sell a product. I don't think this is the first time we've had SvR sponsor a PPV either. But how many times have we seen a wrestler appear on screen, showing off his new shirt, or DX hyping whatever WWEShop.com sells? Whenever WWE features a song or artist for a PPV, they're helping that band sell CDs. Whenever it's a movie or game, they're helping them sell stuff.

In the end, the WWE is a business, whether we like it or not. The more games they sell, the better.

I agree. It's probably a coincidence and it's still a fun concept. Even if it was some sort of marketing ploy, I wouldn't see what the big deal would be. It'd still be a fun and interesting ppv concept in my view and if the WWE would be able to help push a little merchendise while promoting their product, what'd be the harm?

I definitely agree with this. I've enjoyed the two concept ppvs the WWE has put out and many just up and condemned them months in advance because of the lack of spontanaity. I think that's a cop out because very little is spontaneous in wrestling these days, not when you can head online and find out storyline ideas, planned endings for matches, match concepts, feuds, title pushes, etc. The dislike goes especially for the HIAC ppv. Even if every match would have been a 5 star classic, the same people would still be pissing and moaning about it. After all, the haters have to have something to bitch about, even if they have to pull it out of their asses. They scream the WWE is stale and they bitch. The WWE tries different ideas, they still bitch just as loud. They complain the WWE isn't building or pushing young guys and, when the WWE does just that, you get more of the same.

Of course it was. Did you for a second think anything otherwise? Plus the fact it was sponsored by Smackdown vs Raw 2010 put that nail in the coffin. Despite all the bullshit that is the sole purpose of the PPV was to sell the game, it was a solid PPV. I enjoyed watching it and the Cena vs RKO match was a hell of a way to solidify the end of that feud.

Of course it was, and you know what? It wasn't such a bad thing. I highly enjoyed the PPV and thought it was fun, unique, and a fresh idea. It made us feel like there was a brand split for a reason, and it manufactured competition. It was a solid, fun PPV.
