Biggest flops in Pro Wrestling history

Dark Match Winner
I mean it could be anything like feud, face turn, etc. anything which wasn't supposed to go like that and was a big flop. Many will criticise me but for me its the alliance storyline from 2001.I mean it was a big shit.It was supposed to be one of the biggest angles of all time but what we got was just crap.It does provided us some very good matches but in the end it was a flop for me.So what u think were the biggest flops in pro wrestling?

I'm gonna go in a complete different direction, and say Brock Lesnar's Shooting Star Press during Wrestlemania 19, it was supposed to have one of the biggest things to ever have happened in Wrestlemania history, and the fact that Brock Lesnar, who already knew how to do the move, and do it perfectly, ended up botching it and causing himself to get a concussion.

While it was definitely a worthy memory because after all he almost made it successful, and it was still looking good, but in the end, it was botched, and didn't reach the potential that it should have, and didn't leave the memory it should have.

I know it might not be the BIGGEST flop of professional wrestling, but it's definitely worth a mention.

I think it's when the nWo invaded WWE. It started out really awesome with Vince saying that WWE/F had a disease and he needed to kill it, and then he revealed that he was bringing in the nWo to kill what he created. But almost immediately after Hogan, Hall, and Nash showed up, it started to unravel. Nash got hurt and couldn't compete, Austin was upset over having to fued with Hall, and noone wanted to boo Hogan. He got cheered no matter what he did. Hogan turned face shortly thereafter and Nash and Hall were released. It could have been really cool, but it died out after a couple of months.

The invasion story will - and should - get a lot of love on this thread.

Of recent memory, I have to say the Mr. McMahons bastard son storyline. The storyline was reportedly supposed to lead to a main event feud between Mr. Kennedy/Anderson and Triple H that would have culminated with a match at WrestleMania.

What we got instead was Hornswaggle that culminated in the opening match of WrestleMania 24 between JBL and Finley.

Vladimir Kozlov. He was built up as a monster, an unstoppable monster who beat the crap out of everyone. He went over Hardy, Big Show, and even Taker, and along came Triple H burying another potential star. After that, Kozlov lost a few matches, and the announcers changed it every time he lost. He went from being undefeated to being unpinned to being undefeated in singles competition to being undefeated on Friday nights to being undefeated on Tuesday nights to being a jobber, to being an afterthought. Kozlov was hyped so much that when he ultimately stopped being such a monster, he stopped being cared about. Kozlov had massive potential to be a Sheamus-like character, but now he barely has a chance of lasting through 2010.

I am going to go with the oWn. Warrior made his long awaited debut for WCW just to come to the ring and give god awful promos that were so full of nonsense you had no idea what he was saying. The backstage segments with Hogan seeing Warrior in the mirror, then turning around and he is no where to be seen were kinda dumb.
The match at Halloween Havoc was a complete joke and a waste of time, the finish of the match with Hogan botching the fireball was funny as hell and pretty much summed up the whole feud. Oh yeah the only other member of The oWn was The Disciple, so that will be the icing on this flop cake

Chris Jericho's late 2007 return. It was being hyped as one of the biggest returns ever but management fucked it up big time as they had no idea what to do with him. Two weeks after his return, no one cared anymore and all the hyped died. He was put into a fued with Orton for the WWE title, that failed because they didn't click one bit and then jericho was put into a fied with JBL, seriously JBFUCKINGL???? it all went downhill from there until jericho turned heel

very pathetic if you ask me

first of all i didnt really see this because when i was growing up i would mostly watch wwf but from what ive seen and heard i gotta go with vince russo going to WCW to revive the promotion it was just a bad attemp to be a new attitude era that failed miserably and that is why WCW is no longer a promotion

I might get some heat for saying this, but.......

WCW

They went from being the biggest company in wrestling to being out of business within 2 years. They had all the ingredients to be successful, but messed it up big time.

Ok I have a couple:

Kizarny - Ok so he wasn't the most hyped but by the amount of vignettes he was given with such a great character, we then only saw him in one match and then he disappeared and received his future endeavours!

Braden Walker - When Chris Harris jumped over the E, I think a fair few people had high hopes for him, he then turns up on ECW looking overweight and so on, big flop!

Glacier - I actually liked this character, but they did nothing with him! He was hyped to the moon and back, and looked very flashy but also very quickly amounted to another average wrestler.

Final one - Kennel from hell - Sure everyone thought, how can we improve hell in a cell? put a cage in it!!! Then someone said, plus dogs that will shit everywhere and don't actually look to scary attached to their owners!! Such a horrible match, although I wish they gave the cage and cell combo more of a chance, just less canine.

Gotta be the Shockmaster. I mean, the former Tugboat gets a spraypainted stormtrooper helmet to wear, needs Arn Anderson to provide his voice, and trips while breaking through the wall, ruining all his credibility? No way that can be topped. That is the definition of flopping.

My biggest one of recent memory was Vince vs god. It was just really bad and completely unbelievable. My only good memory of it was Joey Style's AWESOME promo where he ripped on it when he quit Raw for the newly relaunched ECW. Oh I spose the WWECW could be considered a flop also but I enjoyed the matches

I agree with cookie 14. Russo was the cancer that killed WCW. David Arquette had no business being inside of a wresting ring, let alone wearing the World belt. Don't forget the screwjob where all of the champions was stripped so WCW could have a fresh start. Sid was doing a great job as champion and they ruined it!! Also the west Texas Outlaws angle stunk. Curt and Windham did a great job by themselves. They didn't a fony belony gimmick as Curt was from MN. Don't forget Brad Armstrong mockery of his brother , The Roaddogg.

Chris Jericho's late 2007 return. It was being hyped as one of the biggest returns ever but management fucked it up big time as they had no idea what to do with him. Two weeks after his return, no one cared anymore and all the hyped died. i think the one thing they screwed up with jericho was making him look like a member of a boy band.

when you saw him on interviews regarding rock and roll bands on vh1, he looked like a rocker. long hair, jeans, beard, etc. that was the look they should have brought him back with as the "good" guy, but they made him look gay.

if anything, they should have brought him back with the rock look and then made him into a pretty boy once he turned heel. it would have worked.

to add my own, i have to go with the dungeon of doom. i always liked kevin sullivan and thought he was a great heel. even his days as part of the Varsity Squad, he was one of the best.

but they ruined him with this. then adding awful characters like "brutus "the zodiac" beefcake made it worse.

another one off the top of my head was the Yeti. they still bust that whole incident on youtube with the infamous "Yeti humping Hogan" snippets. the part that drove me nuts was schiovanne calling him yetAY instead of yetEE.

Great Topic.

Off the top of my head and most likely because someone mentioned Brock Lesnar I would have to say Brock Lesnar VS Goldberg at WrestleMania was a HUGE Flop. Everyone knew both were leaving the company. That match should of been something special but just because of what was happening off screen nobody cared about the match.

I might get heat for this, but it's too recent to ignore. Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon at WM26. Such a hyped up match to be as hoeeible as it was. The Harts OUTSIDE did more work than Bret. Sad.
