Debut Flops

New Day: 3 guys that were all doing decent enough on their own, get taken off TV and built up for what felt like an eternity to tease this new faction, which of course debuted to no fanfare, and is currently eliciting chants of "New Day Sucks", which begs the question why this was done in the first place?

As much as I really wanted New Day to work, I have to agree. They should have had a catchy, lyrical theme for their walk to the ring. Instead they just clap while saying "whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoooooa wha-ohhh". Is this an episode of Dora the Explora of something? What in God's name am I clapping for or saying "whoa" for? It's like a crowd of Keanu Reeves'.

I've noticed a few Glacier mentions, and I can't agree more. I think the absolute WORST debut of all time was that of Glacier. I mean FUCK!! Watch this promo that I remember airing around a YEAR before he actually debuted:

Glacier was supposed to be the type of badass who could give Mr. Freeze the chills. He was supposed to be a demonic harbinger of icy horror who would rule WCW like a man possessed by the evil spirit of a tyrannical shogun. It wasn't just hype, it was prophecy.

We were promised THIS!:

And we got THIS! THIS!:

It was a very confusing time to be a pro-wrestling fan. Do you not cheer, risking that you'll look like a square among the crowd of bouncy doofuses? The commentators gushing over his every move was just ridiculous. WCW would eventually introduce Mortis and Wrath, which would be brutal overkill in terms of how horribly they dorked up their own company. Even though it's often the case in pro-wrestling, a gimmick should never debut as being bigger than the person who's performing it.

In the last few years I have to say that Tensai and Sin Cara both had major flop debuts.

Tensai was built up as a huge monster and went straight into a program with John Cena. It was only a months, Tensai was seen dancing next to Brodus freaking Clay.

Sin Cara on the other hand was to debut as a big babyface who would be seen as the WWEs next big Hispanic superstar to take over after Rey Mysterio and ADR. OBviously that didn't happen as the original person who played him was let go and he is now in a tag team with the man who I consider to be the TRUE successor to Rey Mysterio.
