WCW 1998: Could it be funny when Tony Schiavone wanted the old Scott Steiner back?

Remember how Scott Steiner turned heel on his brother Rick Steiner at SuperBrawl VIII (8) on February 1998 against The Outsiders, officially marking the end of the Steiner Brothers as a tag team?

Well, in kayfabe, after Scott's heel turn, Bobby Heenan could care less about Scott himself, except for the fact that Brain said that the nWo got to Scott Steiner and it was Buff Bagwell who courted him at Souled Out '98 when Scott was so close to turning heel on Rick Steiner, Ray Traylor and Ted DiBiase after Rick, Scott and Traylor had a six-man tag match vs Konnan, Buff Bagwell and Vincent as filler to prepare for one last PPV match against The Outsiders at SuperBrawl VIII.

As for Tony Schiavone, Larry Zbyszko, Mike Tenay and Lee Marshall, they (in kayfabe) acted like it was a travesty to see Scott Steiner betray his brother for Hogan, Hall, Nash, Savage, Konnan, Hennig, Bagwell and Bischoff. Whereas nobody batted an eye for when Scott Norton, Konnan, Brian Adams and Brutus Beefcake joined the nWo because their membership additions weren't over as Scott Steiner's addition to the nWo.

For most of 1998 after Scott's heel turn and transformation into Big Poppa Pump, Tony Schiavone was acting like Scott Steiner sold his soul to the evil forces, and that he wanted the old Scott Steiner back, as in he wanted the Scott Steiner from 1988/89 to 1996/97 who (as Schiavone stated) contributed so much to professional wrestling and World Championship Wrestling (as in Team WCW babyfaces). Even WCW guys like Lex Luger, Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Diamond Dallas Page, Booker T and Ray Traylor were all disappointed in Scott's betrayal of Rick at the hands of Hall & Nash, and that those five WCW guys also acted like they wanted to get Scott Steiner back to Team WCW.

Tony Schiavone shows up at an arena and makes his way to the commentator's desk, but nobody is there. No audience, no wrestlers, just an empty arena. Tony sits down and bemoans what would surely be the eventual demise of WCW, brought on by the paradigm shift of Scott Steiner.

Tony Schiavone: Would not that a man, of small stature and rotund girth, be permitted to have unto him a long haired brunette Scott Steiner? YEA I SAY! Though now I am bereft, and must retreat to the infinite abyss within my empty soul.

Suddenly, Scott Steiner as he was depicted before the change, appears behind Tony.

TS: Scott, is that really you!?

Scott Steiner: It's me alright. How've you been buddy?

Tony stands up and turns his body to tearfully cast his glossy anime eyes on Scott Steiner.

TS: Could it really be? Has my mind truly gone mad?

SS: Mad? No, perish the thought my good man. Your tears of woe have magically brought me to my senses, and now I've reverted back to the high-flying youthful hero that I once was.

Tony screams at the top of his lungs while his eyes go cross eyed.

SS: Are... you okay!?

A massive form erupts from Tony's ample belly causing Tony's frame to explode in crimson mess of blood and gore. The form kneels where Tony once stood, and it rises to reveal itself as Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner.

SS: Tony ate you? Did he eat the wrestling tights you're wearing too?

SS: SHUT YOUR STINKIN' TRAP BEFORE I LAY A MUD HOLE ON IT SO HARD WITH THIS FIFTY FOOT ELBOW THAT YOU'LL BE VOMITING MY MIDDLE FINGER FOR WEEKS!

SS: But, for the record, nothing will explode from my chest, right?

SS: THAT DOES IT YOU TWINKLE TOED BUTT KISSER! NOW I'M GOING TO!

Scott Steiner embraces his alter-ego in a big hug.

SS: There there. There there. It's going to be okay.

SS: I HAVEN'T FELT THIS WAY IN AGES! FOR THE FIRST TIME I FEEL LIKE I'M GETTING TO KNOW THE SCARED CHILD WITHIN ME WHO ONLY WANTS TO BE ACCEPTED BY... AUGH!

Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner is given a belly to belly suplex by Scott Steiner.

SS: DTA! DON'T TRUST ANYBODY! AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE! BECAUSE COLLEGIATE PROFESSIONAL SCOTT STEINER SAID SO!
