Best Song: Nirvana

Getting Noticed By Management

They're one of the best rock bands of all time, and they have no shortage of great songs. I'm going to go with "Heart Shaped Box" The lyrics to this song is just mind boggling. When I first heard it I had to listen to it again just to wrap my mind around it. Kurt Cobain's vocals in the song are great as usuall, and the guitars are very powerfull. This is one of my favorite songs to both rock out and just chill to.

for me, nirvanas best song is the first one i ever heard by them. "smells like teen spirit". i dont know what draws me to this song, i guess i like the intro, and how the drums kick in. i like the beat of the song, and even though i have NO idea what he is saying, i like the singer. when you put all the instruments together, you get my favorite nirvana song.

Gotta go with "In Bloom" on this one. I love everything about this song from the background music, the chorus, the tone of Kurt from going from soft spoken to louder and faster. Just recently got into Nirvana outside of knowing the few songs everyone knows but so far this song probably has to be my favorite song.

My favorite is Come As You Are. It's great musically, and the lyrics are very well written. It's one of those songs that no one can help but sing along to when it comes on the radio. It's also easily indentifiable by the opening few riffs on the bass, and is one of Cobain's best songs, as far as singing.

I also am a big fan of Lake Of Fire. I'm a sucker for cover songs, and for acoustic songs, and they did this one very well. It's a good song to listen to if you just want to kick back and relax, and it can be fun to sing along with if you're just hanging around with some friends...

I know it's extremely cliché, but nothing beats "Smells like Teen Spirit" to me. That's probably my favorite song of all time, out of any bands to be honest.

But, my other favorites, oddly enough, are already included in this thread with Heart Shaped Box (for those original ECW fans, you can't forget Beulah's promo video featuring that song; it was way beyond awesome, to say the least), "Come as you Are" and "Lake of Fire". The only song I could add is "Dumb" off their In Utero album.

While I still stand by my belief that Nirvana is one of the most overrated bands of all time, I'd have to say there were three songs that immediately popped into my head when I saw this thread Rape Me, Lithium, & Heart Shaped Box, can't really explain why I like any of them tbh because I really just don't know, I just like them, I'd say out of those three though that HSB is prolly the best, and Rape Me is my favorite song by them

Though I will say this, and I'm sure alot of people will disagree but it seems like just about every band that covers Nirvanas songs does a better job at playing those songs than Nirvana themselves did, I think this is largely do to the fact that Cobain was a horriable singer, and really not they great of a song writer either, his lyrics were extremely simplistic and in most cases all he really did has repeat the same thing over and over

I like the song "On a Plain" by Nirvana. By far one of the least popular songs that they have performed, I think I like it because of that reason, its not overplayed by people claiming Nirvana is the greatest band on earth. Then again, the verses of the song are horrid for the most part. I just like the chorus. Just another example of how Nirvana was able to sell well by writting a few lines and repeating:P

I love Nirvana and pretty much like every song they made but I can't choose between Heart Shaped Box, The Man who sold the world, and Polly.

Heart shaped Box was a great song and many fans favorite. The song is just classic Nirvana. It's also strangely catchy and I find it in my head all the time.

The man who sold the world is probably my favorite Nirvana song and it's actually a David Bowie cover. Something about the lyrics and how Kurt sings the lyrics. It's just one of thoes songs that when I hear it I just fall deeper in love with it.

Polley is just such a haunting song. It's about the rape and tourture of a young girl. The lyrics are great and the song is just a great metaphor. Although the insturmental on this song is awfully repetitive(much like the whole song)I just love it anyways and the meaning behind it makes it that much special.

My personal favourite is "All Apologies" off their Unplugged show. I don't know what I like about it. I'm useless at describing songs. But something about it just clicks with my brain and before I know it, I'm tapping my foot along, singing the words, waking the neighbours up, etc.

O.K., I'm not a huge fan of Nirvana (always liked Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden more), but I digest. However, I've always had a soft spot for two of their songs. The first is Lithium. There's just something about songs discussing inner struggles, they always get me. The second is "Francis Farmer will Have her Revenge on Seattle", simply because it's so often overlooked.

Great thread, though!!!! Now somebody needs to post one for Kittie.

I have two favourites, and I can't really choose. They're both covers, and on the same album. The first is "The Man Who Sold The World." The switch between soft, downbeat vocals at the start and the upbeat chorus make this song great. The riff is catchy and it's definetely one of my favourites. The other is "Lake of Fire." It's amazing how a singer can make voice cracking great. That's what I love about this song... Cobain can't hit the high notes... but he tries, and it sounds awesome. The drum beat is awesome too.
