Favourite Songs Ever

Ok, so I searched the forum and couldn't find this thread, but I might be wrong so you can delete this or merge or whatever.

I've noticed alot of threads lately asking the best song for a specific band, but this thread is for any songs. It can be anything, any genre, and year, doesn't matter. My question is what are your favourite songs of all time? Top 10, top 5, number 1, doesn't matter. Just say it.

Number 10-The first on my list, at number 10, is by The Rolling Stones, the band that just doesn't give up. They released a multitude of great songs, but my number one is Shattered. It makes me laugh as well as enjoy, with a great guitar rhythm and brilliant lyrics. Mick Jagger is at the top of his game with a song that relies heavily on the singing. Shattered is a great song that shows you don't need to be hard rock to rock.

Number 9-My favourite Led Zeppelin song changes alot, but my personal favourite is Kashmir. Stairway to Heaven is great and all, but I think it is overrated. Not bad, just overrated. So Kashmir is on my list. The song is great. It just goes on and on with one of the most signature riffs of all time. It gives the image of walking through the desert with the hot sun beating down on your head. It is almost the same, start to finish, but it doesn't need to change. It's great just the way it is. Plant's voice is perfect too, hitting all the high notes that make him famous. It is often looked over seeing as people rush to listen to Stairway to Heaven, but Kashmir is one of the best.

Number 8-Pink Floyd rarely made sense in their songs, making all sorts of acid ridden songs in their large collection. But one that is fairly straight forward and still great is Wish You Were Here. The soft, acoustic intro turns into the beautiful song that is definitely the height of David Gilmour's singing capabilities. The lyrics were written by Roger Waters and are absolutely beautiful. The best line, "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl!", is great and shows what incredible writers Pink Floyd were. My favourite of many great Floyd songs.

Number 7-My next favourite is a song that is not only brilliant, but funny and really tells a story, albeit a simple one. Performed by The Who, Pinball Wizard is the tale of a young boy named Tommy who was unfortunately born deaf, dumb and blind. This does not stop him from playing pinball, and by using his heightened sense of smell to play the silver ball he becomes the Pinball Champion! This song is great and even though The Who themselves hated it, it still makes it onto my list.

Number 6-This next song is awesome. The solo in it is legendary, and rightfully so. After the tragedy that took most of the members of Lynyrd Skynyrds lives, this song becomes even more special. The only song I can be talking about is Freebird. They might not have alot of big hits, but this and Sweet Home Alabama alone made Skynyrd legends. Not only is the solo one of the best of all time, but Van Zants singing for just two minutes is incredible. I want to be able to write songs like that, and I think this song is one that really inspired me to pick up a guitar.

Number 5-Even though they are my favourite band of all time, I do not have one favourite song by The Beatles, and even the ones I love are not my favourite songs. The thing I love about The Beatles is they have SO many songs I love. So I am going to make my number 5 a Beatles song, but remember, I still love them the most. And the song is Across the Universe. This song is beautiful and melodic. It is amazing. It makes you drift off when you really put your heart in the song, and that makes it number 5 in my favourite songs.

Number 4-I do not have many favourite songs by Eric Clapton, but this one is his best and it is definitely one of my top songs. Tears in Heaven has so much emotion, and the story behind it is a huge part of it. Clapton shows his ability to write the best and most beautiful guitar songs with this incredible acoustic piece. The lyrics are incredible, really getting into your heart and soul. It makes you think of what could happen to you or someone you love, and it reflects the way we all feel when we lose somebody. This song is incredible.

Number 3-I actually first heard this song when it was Hulk Hogan's theme song and I really liked the sound. When I heard the full version courtesy of Jimi Hendrix, I was blown away. This is Hendrix's greatest guitar song in my opinion. I am of course talking about the incredible Voodoo Child(Slight Return). The live version at Woodstock is even better. Hendrix just knows how to make a guitar do whatever he wants and it shows here. Not one bad note in the entire song. It's what I want to be able to do on the guitar. The lyrics make no sense to me, and I don't even know if I want to know what they mean. Hendrix just did everything that is great about guitar music here, and this perfect song came out. If you've heard it, you know what I mean and if you haven't I definitely recommend it.

Number 2-I heard this song for the first time not that long ago, and didn't love it. But it grew on me fast and is now my second favourite song. It is the song that made Aerosmith famous, and in my opinion the best song they ever produced. The song is Dream On. It has so much emotion, really showcasing Tyler's voice, and the song's build up until the final verse is just great. It starts off slow and just gets better and better until Steven just belts out the title in his greatest show of vocals ever. The song has a great message: Just keep trying to live your dreams and they will come true.

Number 1-This song is the best. It is incredible in every way. It has the beautiful lyrics, the incredible solos, the amazing vocalizing, the crescendos and all the Slash. My favourite song of all time is November Rain by Guns n' Roses. When I tell people this is my favourite song, they go on about how it's too slow, the solo is not fast enough, there's too much singing. Well, if people stopped caring about the speed Slash played his solos they could pay more attention to how incredible he played here. The song is not meant to be some fast paced heavy metal song. It's meant to be a lyrical masterpiece that shows the versatility of Guns n' Roses. It was the high point of the bands success and the best work they had ever done. The song is surrounded by other songs on the amazing Use Your Illusion that compliment and promote the song, but it is the true gem of the Guns' discography. November Rain will always be remembered, even through whatever crap Axl releases next. This song is really put Guns on the list of great bands, put them with legends like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Hendrix and Pink Floyd. It made them a part of music history, and it put them on my list of favourite songs.

And those are my top 10. It's for right now, so it changes alot. But that's pretty much the normal songs. I chose one per band, so if you're having trouble just so it that way, cause I found it works. So now it's your turn. What are your favourite songs?

1) 3 Doors Down - Here Without You (Acoustic) - This song is a truly beautiful piece of music, a song with such moving lyrics, incredible and heartfelt vocals and the music that is actually used could make even the biggest and baddest of people feel moved. For me personally whenever I listen to this, it feels like I'm listening to it for the very first time.

2) Chris Daughtry - Home - I remembered listening to this for the first time and I remember feeling, almost inspired. It was played at a differcult point in my life where some bad shit went down and it helped me realise alot of things. So for me personally, this is right up there with the best.

3) Funeral For A Friend - Into Oblivion - This song starts off what is probably my favourite album of all time and its a really well performed, well sung song. It really set the tone for what was to come. It's an incredible song. When I finally got to see Funeral live, they went off stage and after a few minutes the intro started playing and it sent shivers right up my spine.

4) Bullet For My Valentine - Scream, Aim and Fire - Bullet are probably my favourite band at the moment and when I saw them live they came out and got an incredible pop from the crowd... then they started playing this. I loved the song anyway but when the crowd realised what it was and when Matt Tuck (BFMV's lead singer) started belting out the lyrics, it was something I'll never forget.

5) Linkin Park - Shadow of the Day - One of Linkin Park's most mellow songs and a song with true meaning. Its really well performed and because its so different to what they normally do, its my favourite of all their stuff.

6) MGMT - Time To Pretend - I don't really have a reason why I love this song so much. I just do. Its so different and re-freshing, I found it almost impossible to dislike. Also considering it was used for my forms end of secondary school video last year, it does hold a special place in my heart.

7) OMC - How Bizzare - It's so groovy and catchy. Everytime I listen to it, it puts a massive smile on my face. Timeless stuff.

8) Savage Garden - Hold Me - Again another very meaningful song and one that I've loved for a long time. A truly superb song.

9) Three Days Grace - Never Too Late - I listened to this song alot whilst I got over breaking up with my girlfriend of 1 and 3/4 years. It's also a really great song.

10) Tommy Körberg - Anthem (Live) - This was an incredible performance of one of the hardest songs to sing as a performer. It inspires me to do well in the performing arts business (incase you didn't know I want to be an actor) and I can imagine myself singing this just like Tommy on a stage infront of hundreds of people... and I really want that to happen.

Bloodmeat- Protest The Hero
Protest The Hero is probably one of my favourite bands ever. I am not sure if Bloodmeat is my favourite by them, but it is one of my favorite songs ever.

Sound of Sulfur- The Bled
Though I haven't been a The Bled fan for too long, the fact that they haven't even been around for long, like some of the other bands I have listed, this is one of my favourite songs. They are the band I have seen the most times in concert, and I keep going back.

Mistake- Serial Joe
I'll be surprised if many non Canadians know this song, or even know this band. This song really reminds me of my childhood, Serial Joe being one of the first more mature bands I ever listened too. Though the song reminds me of playing Pokemon, which is one my favourite games ever.

This Time Imperfect- AFI
Probably the song I would want at my funeral. This song isn't even a listed song on their album. It replaced multiple AFI songs as being one of my favourite, and for a few years, I could easily say it was my favourite songs.

Suspicious Minds- Elvis Presley
I am not an Elvis fan, but this song is one of my favourite songs of all times. I think it reminds me of driving around with my dad in the night, listening to the oldies radio station.

Stairway To Heaven- Led Zeppelin
The first time I ever heard this song, I was quite young. In a time where one couldn't access music easily, I listened to the radio a lot just to catch this song, and it is rarely played due to length.

Against The Wind- Bob Seger
King Bob. My friend and I used to listen to Bob Seger for days on end. He was out King. This is my favourite song by him, and I always catch myself singing to the song. Forrest Gump is made better just by having this song:).

When I'm Gone- Eminem
The song that I remember Eddie Guerrero for ad the song which caused Robyn and I to meet. It will always hold a special part of me.

I Won't See You Tonight- Avenged Sevenfold
This song used to have a playlist hits of over 1000 for me, because I would stay up all night listening to it over and over. It was great when I also worked construction, because it made the day go fast.

Chloroform Perfume- From Autumn To Ashes
One of the sadder songs I have ever heard, and one of my most played. The band itself is one of my favourites, and the time I got to meet and hang out with them is one of my favourite memories.

I can't be bothered with a Top 10, so I'll simply post my favourite song.

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol

One of the best songs to have been released in the last few years, and the best Snow Patrol song. Almost everyone knows this song because it's so good. I love the lyrics, it's just such a sweet song.

1. Hail Mary by 2Pac- This song always give me energy for some reason that I haven't yet figured out yet but it has a great beat & with Pac's lyrics in this song makes it one of the greatest songs of all time.

2. All My Life by K-Ci & JoJo- I remember listening to this song over & over & over again cause a girl I was with for nearly half a year left me cause of her friends & it broke me down mentally. I just kept listening to this song & let all my emotions come out whether it be crying or punching the shit out of the wall. Either way this song helped me out & got me to stop thinking about her.

3. California Love by 2Pac feat Dr Dre This was the song I remember listening to whenever I smoked my first joint. I consider that day a special one cause it started a bond between me & my friends that still are there for me today.

4. Lose Yourself by Eminem This is my favorite Eminem song cause it's makes me wanna get up & do something & I can relate to this song cause in real life I am an underdog & I wanna seize the great moments cause I am on my last strike.

5. Party Up by DMX He is one of my favorite rappers of all time & everytime I listen to this song I always feel in the mood to get drunk & party.

:dark2:Funeral For Yesterday- Kittie The riffs in this song alone make me wanna get out there and live for the day. And Mercedes' voice is kill.

Alive- Pearl Jam The first song I ever actually paid attention to the meaning of. I can relate to it because, I too found out my father was not the man who raised me. Same reason Eddie wrote the song.

Chainsaw Gutsfuck- Mayhem Just the greatest black metal band ever. That's just about the only reason.

Countess Bathory- Venom It's just about the infamous Hungarian countess who bathed in the blood of virgins to maintain her youth. How brutal is that?

Starry eyed Surprise- Oakenfold ft. Shifty Shellshock I love this song to dance to at home.

In no specific order, theres my five favorite songs, at the moment. That last one changes almost weekly.

No Order for these songs but my fave 10 songs....

The Noose - A Perfect Circle
Laid back, chilled and the lyrics are immense. This song is about addiction - Ironic as I'm addicted to listening to it

Taking Over Me - Evanescence
I love the lyrics - the whole of the Fallen album is immense but this is defiantly a stand out song

Protege Moi - Placebo
I love french rock music, even though I dont know the language I love the way its sung and Placebo do a great job on this. I much prefer this version to the english version

Rock Bottom - Eminem
My Favourite eminem song and probably the song that managed to make me spend thousands of pounds trying to find something like it on other albums

Off With his head - Big Punisher
This song is fucking epic - if you havn't heard it then I suggest buying Yeeah Baby just for it - the rest of the album is great but this is the benchmark track

Wild & Crazy - The Division Of Laura Lee
A Bastard of a song to get hold of but my God when you do you will realise why this song is sex through speakers, if i'm feeling a little confident i'll put it on and before you know it i'm feeling cockier then the spawn of Shawn Michaels & The Rock

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Mine and my wife's ""Song"" - I love this song and when I hear it I think of all the good stuff that makes me want to wake up every morning

Yesterday - The Beatles
An amazing Ballad - A true timeless classic

Cry Me a River - Justin Timberlake
This song makes me want to dance, I love the emotion in this song and have done for years. This song is pop at its best

Paint it black - The Rolling Stones
Another song you can just strut too. I can listen to this song regardless of my mood and it will just throw confidence at me

I'm with Becca. To make a list of my favorite songs ever woould take me an eternity. So I am just going to post my favorite song of all the times.

Shouldve Been A Cowboy - Toby Keith.

I've always loved Country Music. To me this song signifies what being a country fan is all about. Love, passion you name it. Plus I have always wanted to be a cowboy myself. Just something about that lifestyle that always intrigued me. Roping bulls, bailing hay. coming home to a nice home cooked meal with your wife across the table/ That to m is heaven, and this song may not say it. But it implies it all. Truly my favorite song ever.

Hmm, I can make a top 10, but numbers 10 - 2 are in no particular order. I'll try and not do multiple songs from the same band.

10. Escape The Fate - Situations:
This is the song that got me into Escape The Fate and to me, this is their signature song and the lyrics are awesome, the guitar work is awesome, the video clip is awesome and everyone should check it out on YouTube. This song reminds me of my relationship with my ex aswell.

9. Son of Dork - Ticket Outta Loserville:
My ex showed me this band and when I heard this song I became addicted. It's a great song and a great story about a boy who asks out a girl because of truth or dare and she says yes and his life starts to become really awesome and she's his "ticket outta loserville" with Loserville representing where he was in his life before, single and had no life but then she dumped him because she got bored of him and then he goes back to Loserville.

8. Marilyn Manson - Rock is Dead:
The song that got me into Marilyn Manson. It's a great song with a very true meaning. The meaning being that MTV no longer is about music and that on MTV, 'Rock is Dead' pretty much. Also a very energetic song.

7. Good Charlotte - Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous:
This song, like 'Rock is Dead', has a very true meaning when you look at the lyrics. Joel sings about how if the celebrities lived the life of a normal person who lived a normal life that they wouldn't be able to handle it so they shouldn't complain about stuff because they have it better than most people.

6. The Misfits - The Monster Mash:
Yes, I know it's a cover song, but it's just so awesome and The Misfits really make this their own song, even if it's the newer The Misfits and not the original. The song isn't about anything much really, just a bunch of monsters rocking up and having a sweet party and the sound of The Misfits just makes this song so much better. Awesome song.

5. AFI - God Called in Sick Today:
This is one of AFI's best songs and I don't really know what to say about it other than it's awesome. They always perform it very well live with Davey getting in the crowd ontop of someones shoulders and belting out the chorus. Watch it on YouTube if you can. Awesome song by an awesome band.

4. Blink 182 - Stay Together for the Kids:
Tim introduced me to this song, I love it, it's one of my most listened to songs. Awesome into and then it gets loud and it's just a overall good song. Great lyrics. Great video and I can't wait to see what Blink 182 does now that they are back together. The piano at the end is pretty cool aswell.

3. Underoath - Reinventing Your Exit:
Underoath is typically a hardcore band with a lot of screaming but this song is a bit more mellow and not as hardcore. I listened to this song so many times when I was overseas on the tour bus with everyone, it is one of my faveourites of all time and I honestly don't know why it is. The drums in it are pretty cool aswell. So yeah, check Underoath out aswell.

2. Reggie and the Full Effect - Take Me Home, Please:
There are two different versions of this song. There's the album version which has no guitars or any sort of rock feel to it, while the music video is a different version with guitars and a more obvious rock feel to it and I prefer the music video version better. The song is about the singer, James, being in a relationship with a girl who is cheating on her boyfriend with him and shows that he is desperate to be with her but she can't be with him, only rarely and discretely because she is cheating. Awesome keyboard work in this song aswell.

My faveourite song of all time and I know I'm going to get crucified for this....

1. My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade:
These guys are my faveourite band and I always get a lot of shit for saying they're my faveourite but I don't care. The song is about a cancer patient dying in hospital and death coming to take him away in the form of something that he liked, which was a Parade.

I'll do a few songs here, and post more as I think of more.

November Rain - Guns N' Roses - I've always loved GNR, and this song is really one of the greatest songs they've ever done. It's completely different from other GNR songs, there are threee different solos in the song, Axl is singing more softly and more soulfully than usual, and the song builds up in just the right way, starting with the piano and string sections, then adding in the guitars slowly, and so some people don't notice them. And all this builds up to the final crescendo, where everything gets a classic GNR feel to it. A truly great song.

Blink 182 - Stay Together For The Kids - Well Richard just said I introduced him to this song. This is one of Blink's more serious songs, and one of the only ones before their self titled album that wasn't written as a fun song. Tom wrote this song about his parent's divorce when he was a kid, and its one that you can tell he really cares about. the intro with just a clean sound, and moving into the calm verses are great, sort of like looking back and feeling sad that your parents broke up. And then it launches into the choruses, a really loud chorus, showing the angry side to divorce, wishing that they had stayed together but knowing you can't do a thing about it.

Coldplay - The Scientist - I'm pretty sure everyone knows I like Coldplay, and this in my mind is their greatest song. Another song that builds up, gradually adding in each instrument, but there's no really big crescendo at the end, it's just a really calm song. No big surprises here. And it helps that i'm a sucker for piano intros, and Chris Martin's voice has a quality to it that for me I have to sit down and listen to it. It's spellbinding in a way, and this song showcases his voice really well. This song is great just to listen to and think.

Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven - This song is Clapton at his finest, and the unplugged version is even better than the studio version of this song. Clapton is a great guitarist, one of the best, and he proves that you don't have to do crazy solos to be a great guitarist. This song is his most emotional one, written after his son's death, and you can hear in the song how much it means to him. It shows that you don't need all these different effects distortion, synths etc. to write a great song, all you need is an instrument, an idea, and a reason why you are going to write it.

Dream Theater - Octavarium - A song that goes for 24 minutes or so that keeps you interested the whole time has got to be great. Not many people may have heard of Dream Theater, but this is easily their greatest song. It has an amazing aura throughout the song, that grabs you in and doesn't let you go. This song is just an amazing piece of music, and stays true to Dream Theater's style, and shows it off the way none of their other songs do. And i'm amazed that they could even think of a song to go on for 24 minutes long. The band has an mazing chemistry that just allows them to create masterpieces, and this is the greatest one of them all.
