I feel that a lot of the "smaller guys" advocates are misinterpreting the point that myself and some of the other advocates for "big guys" are trying to get across.
Talent/Skill are better than size.
Yes that's right, but I don't think anyone here is arguing against that.
But if you are going to be the
champion you should have
both. Which is why people don't care about Mason Ryan so much. You don't see people like Georges St. Pierre going against Brock Lesnar even though they are way better. Hell Hornswaggle is comfortable on the mic so I guess we should push a belt on him now.
Sometimes big guys can't fight and lose to small guys.
That is also true, but not very often and especially not in a competitive sport. And considering the WWE is
scripted/choreographed and fighting skills are virtually irrelevant, it leaves it up to booking, timing, selling and other variable like that. Any big
athletic person can be trained to do such.
The guys that were shredded back then were on roids and the guys nowadays can't.
So what? The fact still remains that they
don't look like wrestlers. If the guys back then did it, then shame on them, but they still
looked like wrestlers. And personally I can care less how they get there since it is all fake anyways. And if Cena, Ryan, Sheamus and others can do it naturally then so can the rest. And guess what? If they can't they're in the wrong place.
We should watch MMA if we want weight classes and not a scripted sport.
Professional wrestling has weight classes too.
cruiserweight, lightheavy, X Division. And yes while WWE is scripted, they still put on a show in kayfabe that is based on the concept of a real sport. The whole point of wrestlers having to be good on the mic and good at selling and good at in-rin timing is to make the show look believable. Therefore, a 165lb World
Heavyweight Champion as opposed to a 250lb World
Heavyweight Champion is less believable and therefore contradicts the purpose of the skill/talent. Thusly, Batista is more believable than Bryan, Miz, ADR, Punk, Ziggler, Ryder, etc.
But JohnJohnson, Bryan, Miz, Punk, Ziggler, Ryder, Rhodes, etc have busted their asses and improved a lot in the ring and have great mic skills blah blah; therefore they deserve a world championship
Let me ask you if you've ever heard of: Scott Hall, Mr. Perfect, Jake the Snake, Roddy Piper, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, William Regal, Ricky Steamboat, Vader,
British Bulldog, Jummy Snuka, Ted Dibiase, Owen Hart..need I go on? The point is they were all great wrestlers and some of them were big, some small and they didn't need the belt. Hell a lot of them were mid-carders, but they took their position and made it work. People talk about the
passion that Miz, Ryder and others have. Well then that
should be enough because they will be recognized for there ability and not how many belts they had. The problem is that wrestlers can't make themselves nowadays so they
need the belt to validate themselves.
Heels don't need to be scary.
True. But there is a difference to scary and intimidating. You don't have to be scared of someone to acknowledge that they are a serious physical threat to you. A professional wrestler should be someone who can present themselves as a viable force and a detriment to one's well being. As much as I can't stand John Cena, there is no one else in the ME scene on the Raw roster, bar Sheamus(though upper-mid) and Kane(and that's iffy) who looks like they would be a threat to Cena. A stranger watching the show last night would've seen Henry, Cena and Kane and understand that they are wrestlers. But, then come main event time, they see a bunch of guys averaging under 200lbs all holding belts and probably wonder what's keeping the fans in the audience for signing a contract and kicking their asses. Hell to be honest, if I were to have watched wrestling from the AE and then took a time machine to last night and tuned in during the main even and seen Ryder, Punk and Bryan with the belts, I've thought it to be a joke segment or parody.
Lastly, sure Ba
utista might be a conceited asshole, but what does that have to do with Batista who can be a heel of face depending on booking? It's a show about people fighting not a f*cking after school special. It's not designed to be about being nice and giving everyone a turn hold the belt so their feelings won't get hurt because they tried hard. If a performer is an asshole off camera, great for them because they are actors. There would be no Hollywood if you took out all the asshole actors/actresses that talked trash about others to express their
opinion....phew..time to grab some beer lol
