OK, I have something to say about this... and it comes from after watching Batista on Smackdown earlier tonight, when he was sitting at ringside for the Taker and Booker T match. I know that they chop the show up and stuff like that and do all kinds of stuff to it, but seriously... does he REALLY care about WM? Just listening to J.B.L. throughout the night seemed to kind of kill the whole show as he seemed to be a bit sick or pissed about something. But it got worse when Batista came out and sat with Cole and J.B.L.. The entire match they would try to get Batista to talk and he would spit out one line at a time... "I'm not intimidated." J.B.L. was putting all the questions in front of Batista and he shot them down with one syllable answers. Don't get me wrong I respect him as a person doing what he does, but come on. He wasn't even answer in a bad ass way. He was literally answering them like a two year old telling you what shape they see on the page. I think that the main problem most people are having with Batista is the fact that he is just another big body. He is stiff when he wrestles and has a limited move set. If they want Batista to really get over, they will try to get him or even teach him some more stuff. Remember when Brock Lesnar did a Shooting Star Press (granted he landed on his head) but it was awesome to see a big body man like him attempt something like that. Crazy or simple stuff sold a wrestler, The People's Elbow... one of the gimpiest moves, but he created an aura around it, and people ate it up. There just isn't much to like about Batista. They call him the Animal but he comes out in a three piece suit! He needs some help either on his personality or on his actual move set. Because to me, he really doesn't have either... When I watch wrestling I try to imagine now what upsets me, but what gets the little kids wowed... like, when you were 10 years old or whatever and you saw the Undertaker for the first time, and he scared you. WWE evolved into the Attitude Era and you still remember the first time you saw Stone Cold flip off Vince McMahon. I watch the little kids in the crowd wearing their John Cena T-Shirts and Batista shirts, and going crazy when they see the champion. And thats the only thing that makes me not complain that much. But earlier tonight was the exception.
My point is that all these past superstars had charisma or distinct moves they did, but they could still wrestle... Austin still did headlocks and suplex people, his character sold. Benoit, Angle, and Bret Hart, their wrestling skills alone, made them, they didn't need beer cans or eyebrows. But, Batista seems to stay in once place during a match and at a vertical base. He doesn't have either quality. This is just IMO. This is pretty long, and I do have a tendency to ramble. But is anyone else feeling as I am after his stint on Smackdown?
