Ask LJL About Sports

The Phillies had that direct choice and we see what they did.

That's why I'm hoping for Texas vs. Philly in the World Series. It comes down to game 7 and Lee beats Halladay.

Sweet revenge for Cliff Lee.

How about that, Little Jerry?

That would be fine with me even though I have the Giants winning. I would love to see Lee vs. Halladay though as it adds on to the great pitching matchups we have had so far.
We will see Lee/Halladay. Next year, when Lee is in Pinstripes.

It's a given that Orlando, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami will make the playoffs. Milwaukee and Charlotte are improving so they will be in so that leaves two more teams. The Nets will get better but I don't think by 30 games to make the playoffs. Pistons are still in rebuilding mode as are the Wizards. So we have the Knicks, Raptors, 76ers, Pacers, and Cavaliers fighting for two playoff spots. The Knicks with Stoudemire will be better but I'm not confident in their defensive abilities. The Raptors without Bosh will suffer so they're out. I want to believe in Philadelphia but I just can't yet. The Pacers are going to the breakout team in the Eastern Conference so that means them and Cleveland are going to make the playoffs.

Lol. You seriously believe that Cleveland and Toronto actually have a chance to make the playoffs? And you believe Cleveland will make the playoffs? Both teams will be lucky to even win 30 games. I mean the Raptors starting line up is Jose Calderon, DeMar DeRozan, Linas Kleiza, Amir Johnson, and Andreia Bargnani. How can they compete?

With Cleveland LeBron was their team. Who's going to be there go to guy? Mo Williams? Antawn Jamison coming off the bench? I love Byron Scott as head coach but it will be a miracle if the Cavs get anywhere near the playoffs.

I said Toronto won't make the playoffs because they have Bosh. I don't think Cleveland will have a winning record but I still believe they will make the playoffs. They may have 35-40 wins but most of the time in the east, that's good enough. This team is out to prove something.

Cleveland may be out to prove something but it doesn't change the fact that their team is atrocious. The East is also a much improved conference. Gone are the days of making the playoffs with under 40 wins.

Clevland and Toronto probably have the two worst rosters in the league. The Pacers as well.

I'm missing something, LJL........Why is NFL security meeting with Brett Favre?

How does sending dirty pictures to a female Jets employee constitute a punishable offense? What exactly are they investigating for? Seems to me this is a problem more for Favre's wife than for Commissioner Goodell, no? If they're going to suspend every pro athlete who cheats on his wife, they won't have enough players to field a game.

I guess Goodell figures it is a violation of the conduct policy. I don't see a reason for the commissioner to be involved. Why did the woman wait two years for this to come out and how conveinent it was that Favre was about to play the Jets.

1. The Personal Conduct Policy allows Roger Goodell (NFL Commissioner) to unilaterally punish anyone whom is giving the NFL a bad image. The policy has worked for the most part, because bad incidents are not happening as frequently since the policy went into effect (and guys started getting suspended).
2. What Favre did is not cheating, it's basically technological flashing. Favre sent undesired lewd images of his man-region to a female Jets employee, and reportedly sexually harassed 2 Jets massage therapists in-person. The harassment is a crime, and the junk-texting should be, if it isn't yet. That's why the NFL is looking into it.
3. The NFL looks into ANYTHING like this, and it wouldn't be a super-huge story if it wasn't Brett Favre, the Media's favorite player.

EDIT: It's important to note also that Jen Sterger (the broad who Favre texted) has not worked with the Jets since the 2008 season. Is it a coincidence, yes, and she did it because she knew that the pics would land her money (deadspin paid a pretty good coin for a shot of Favre's nether-region, I don't know why).

If they suspended Roethlisberger for 4 games for only being accused of rape, then Favre has to get something. I don't care about his streak. If you wanna keep your integrity, you need to give him SOMETHING.

I've got a prediction I'd like you to comment on, LJL.

I say now that the Miami 3 have their mega-contracts, we're rarely going to see Lebron, Bosh & Wade on the court at the same time during their first year together. After a brief initial period that thrills the fans with the tantalizing possibilities to come, they're going to take turns sitting out with "serious injuries" that magically heal whenever the team needs them to come back.

I think this is done partially as a tactic (with the concurrence of team management) to keep these guys fresh for the playoffs, during which they will all be "healthy." I think it's also partially a result of their exalted status that will entitle them to take a block of games off when they feel like it.

I say if you're a fan who buys a ticket in the hopes of seeing your favorite player, it will be a hit or miss proposition every single game.

What do you think of this, Little Jerry?

It depends on how their record will be towards the end of the season. If they are far ahead of everybody (which I think they won't be), then you will see them start resting their players. I believe they will win around 60 games because there will be an adjustment period and all their opponents will be giving them their best game. It will be a fun season at Miami but it will end up in disappointment because I don't think they will beat the Lakers if they were to meet in the finals (Spurs all the way.)
