Ask LJL About Sports

So who are your favorite team in each sport: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL if you follow it. Hell throw in NCAA Football and Basketball.

Mississippi doesn't have any pro teams so I'm diverse. Most people around here are Saints and Braves fans. I was an Oklahoma fan before I went to college so most are surprised to know that I'm a Sooner lover.

Well the NCAA choices were the one that suprised me the most, but anyway who do you think is the leader in the NFL MVP race right now.

Right now I would say Mark Sanchez followed by Peyton Manning. None of the other quarterbacks have look as consistent as those two.

Who's the best NHL player of all time?

Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Gordie Howe, or anyone else?

I may get some hate for this but I'm going with Martin Brodeur. I believe the goalie is the most important position in hockey and Brodeur is the best ever. All the wins and shutouts and three rings to boot. He's my third favorite athlete of all time behind Tim Duncan and Troy Polamalu.

Mark Sanchez? I'm a little suprised at that. I'm going with Peyton Manning, it seems like he gets better with age. Sanchez is in my top five though along with Shaub, Rodgers, and Polomalu.

Actually, I would not give you any hate for your opinion regarding Martin Brodeur as the best NHL player of all time. All I would say regarding this choice is: :lmao:

Come on now, you cannot be serious. I'm not even sure I would consider him the best goalie of all time, although he is certainly one of the best.

For me, the only real decision is between Gretzky and Orr. And seeing how he revolutionized the way the game is played, bringing offence to a once strictly defensive position, and paving the way for the multitude of guys who have followed in his footsteps, you have to give the nod to Bobby Orr. Gretzky, the best offensive player to ever play the game and the most proficient play-maker ever, has to be seen as a very close second, but Mr. Orr has to be seen as the all-time greatest.

Why can't the Cubs win with the team of All-Stars they assemble each year? Anwser that.

The baseball gods hate the Cubs, plain and simple. 2003 was their year and Bartman happened. To be fair, they had to play one more game after that one and they didn't show up. I think they will be in the playoffs within the next three years if they have the right attitude.

Forget 2003, the past three years they should have been at least in the World Series. Not that it hurts my feelings when they fail, but really, it's ridiculous.

I agree. That's the way baseball is and it's tougher than other sports because only a total of 8 teams make the playoffs.

If you had to choose 1 pitcher for 1 season, Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee? Halladay in his prime or Lee now (his prime)?

I'll go with Halladay slightly over Lee. You'll get more out of Halladay in the duration of a season than Lee although I love how Lee doesn't allow many walks.

If anybody has any more questions, just post them and I'll get to them in the morning.

Do you think that Cleveland stand a chance against teams like L.A or any team remotely good without Lebron James?

During the course of the season, they will lose games to top teams and probably get blown out in some of them but I think Cleveland will be better than people actually think. The Cavalier players will play like they never have played before for the city and for their fans.

It's a given that Orlando, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami will make the playoffs. Milwaukee and Charlotte are improving so they will be in so that leaves two more teams. The Nets will get better but I don't think by 30 games to make the playoffs. Pistons are still in rebuilding mode as are the Wizards. So we have the Knicks, Raptors, 76ers, Pacers, and Cavaliers fighting for two playoff spots. The Knicks with Stoudemire will be better but I'm not confident in their defensive abilities. The Raptors without Bosh will suffer so they're out. I want to believe in Philadelphia but I just can't yet. The Pacers are going to the breakout team in the Eastern Conference so that means them and Cleveland are going to make the playoffs.

The Phillies had that direct choice and we see what they did.

That's why I'm hoping for Texas vs. Philly in the World Series. It comes down to game 7 and Lee beats Halladay.

Sweet revenge for Cliff Lee.

How about that, Little Jerry?

Do you think that in the next three years the huston texans will be in the superbowl?

I believe they can but it will be tough. The Jets and Ravens are going away anytime soon as are the Patriots. You still have the Steelers and Colts. If Houston can improve their defense, then they will make a Super Bowl.

That would be fine with me even though I have the Giants winning. I would love to see Lee vs. Halladay though as it adds on to the great pitching matchups we have had so far.
