People Like Me, We Don't Play
Did it come down to Ty's decision if the match would have a clean finish or if it was going to be ruled a no contest?
Not really. We were kicking ideas around and Ty pretty much laid down that he was happy to do the job, so when I picked the match, I came up with the finish, likening it to when the 1-2-3 Kid pinned Razor on Raw; it was out of nowhere, didn't make the heel look weak and made the hero look tremendous in comparison. That's a very difficult thing to do, trust me.
When the World Champion is in a match and it is ruled a no contest is it safe to assuming the champion was out-RPed?
No, certainly not. If we feel a no-contest is the right way to go with a match, we'll take it that way, but the WHC can be beaten like any other RPer. Often at times it falls on the match writer himself to decide where they are going. For example, I chose to have the tag match at Apocalypse end in a cluster-fuck because it seemed like the most sensible thing to do given the situation and number of factors I had to include.
Take for example, we were originally going to have Callahan vs. Showtime occur on Meltdown or Ascension and that would've ended in a no-contest so we could further the story at the time. We don't do it often, but when we do, it's not to protect anyone, regardless of who they are.
Has a situation ever arose where you completely disagreed with a decision made by creative?
I was fairly against the Triple Threat that we had this year at KC. I thought everyone involved should've been in different places, but everyone else seemed set on it.
