And The Oscar for Best Performance Goes To....

Mark Henry has been one of my favorites since he started the Hall of Pain, and I have wanted to see him feud with Cena since Cena won the title at Mania. Henry sure had me fooled last night. Henry is getting up there in age so it would not have been unthinkable for him to hang it up now, and add in his performance last night and i was hooked. The tears and mentioning his kids was what really did it. It looked like a real send off. When he gave Cena The World's Strongest Slam I marked out. I think this will be a great feud and Mark Henry sold it last night with his acting.

Ok, so what I got from that is...

Raw was in your hometown.
You weren't there that night.
You realize a big moment happened near your home.
You are trying to somehow make yourself part of it by saying "my hometown" over and over.

Now that you've implored me, I will go back to ONE NIGHT..after the biggest show of the year...with an audience full of--sorry for the letdown--non-NJ people. Your argument was nothing. You're just one of those people who try to become part of something they had nothing to do with. "Hear about that murder last week?" "Yeah, my ex girlfriend's cousin used to work at the supermarket down the road from the crime scene. Really makes you think!" Get over yourself. I was at the Triple H return in MSG in 2002 and have never mentioned it until now. It was a night where the crowd still gets tons of credit. Do I brag? No. I was one voice in the middle of thousands. I have a better leg to stand on than you and I don't use it. You were a punk who couldn't afford a Raw ticket to join your apparent hometown world changers! What a goof...

I actually had an opportunity to go but had a work conflict so nice to lay your predeterminations upon me without knowing squat. I also knew plenty of folks who went to the show that were from NJ and NYC and they told me flat out that the number of foreigners were not as much of the majoirty there that night as people have been claiming since that show.

As far as the specific show's impact on the current storylines due to fans refusing to be puppets as you claim we all are, well it's blatantly obvious how things have changed because of the fans outsmarting Vince and his creative team that night. Sorry if you can't acknowledge that while everyone else can.

Sorry to go off-topic but I have a certain distate for the American usage of "foreigner" that many people throw around here willy nilly. Maybe we have different connotations for the word, where I'm from it's used in quite a pejorative manner. I don't understand the relevance of it to your argument either. What does that matter?

I find it laughable when people call fans "Vince's puppets". Yeah, they DEFINITIVELY don't have different like/dislikes than you do with regards wrestling. If they don't like the guys you like and have the GALL to be Sheamus or Cena fans then they're quite clearly fools. Don't they know what wrestling is!?!?!??!?!

Grow up.

It's not a negative connotation in the US. It is a short-hand way of saying people who are not citizens of the US as far as I am concerned. In the context of my post, it's been argued that the majority of the folks who were at Izod in East Rutherford, NJ for the Raw after Wrestlemania were not folks from the NJ/NYC area but from across the pond therefore the against the grain attitude of the audience (in other words the I will not be a puppet attitude) that night cannot be credited to people who live in the region where the arena is located. I am stating that I know for a fact from several people who attended the show that night that the majority of the crowd there that night were indeed from the region and not the other way around and they deserve credit for speaking out/against in their own fun way about the storylines/superstar gimmicks that Vince and his creative team was trying to force feed the fans hence not being the puppet HeenanGorilla is claiming everyone is.

When Henry made the comment about not having the success that John had I saw it coming from that point on.

BUT, I will say this. Whether you saw it coming or not it was an awesome segment. If you didn't see it coming you were shocked. If you did then you spent the segment in anticipation waiting for the world strongest slam. Also Henry played his part perfectly so like i said, whether you saw it coming or not the segment was entertaining as hell.

Agreed. whether or not you saw it coming, you still were watching. I really want something to come from this. He's stepped up his game in the last few years. Unfortunately I see it becoming the same ol "lolCenaWins" feud as always.

I am so so not buying that anyone saw Mark Henrys retirement speech as fake.. Admit it,please i will have respect for you he fooled us all! Got all of us brought his family into it,named his wife and two kids.. Was crying hell made me get something stuck in my eye. Then the WSS on Super Cena.. If that doesnt get an oscar i dont know what will..

I love Mark Henry personally some of the finest work,i have seen out of a performer in well ages. Clearly,he is the best heel has been since they just let him do what he does.

Does he deserve a WWE title run absolutely he fucking does. Give him a run with the title i say a nice lengthy run. Mark Henry last night IMO etched his name with some of all time greats.. Name another heel who is believable like Mark? Maybe Big Show but Mark is just that nasty and brutal.. He fooled us all Good Job Mark we are all indeed Puppets

Agreed.

It's one thing to say that you saw the setup for it. The tweets. Cena's presence. JBL's foreshadowing when he mentioned that the WWE title was the only one Henry didn't win. Yes if you look at everything, they telegraphed it all pretty well.

But Henry's performance was off the charts. The guy has some real acting chops. Despite how everything was telegraphed... he STILL sucked me in and had me thinking it was real.

The guy did an amazing job.

I was completely worked by it.

And left to worry that maybe it will hurt the reaction that he deserves when he actually retires. But still, might be worth it. Quite memorable moment.

Pretty much. When I saw the tweets Henry was making, I said to myself that there's no way he is actually retiring. Then he interrupted Cena and again I thought "yeah that makes sense, he just wants to start a feud with Cena."

But then he started talking and tearing up and I forgot about all of that. I thought he was actually gonna retire after all and maybe they just had Cena there to support him.

But then he attacked Cena and I knew that I had been had. It was a wonderful segment all in all.

I believed he was retiring and Mark Henry indeed does deserve an Oscar. Of course the possibility of him playing the crowd crossed my mind when he made the WWE champion stay out but he mentioned his children and there were tears....

It was a terrific promo that has added some interest into this feud. I can't see Henry takin the belt of Cena but it is nice to see him in the title picture.

Unfortunately for me the whole segment was undone by interrupting Cena, who then stuck around for no obvious reason. Mark Henry put in a great performance but it was clear what was coming. If I'd had the chance to rewrite that segment, I would have had 5 or 6 other guys in the ring, then the swerve comes as a real surprise.

HAHAHA! This is what I mean. This guy, who apparently gets teary-eyed during pro wrestling (??), was fooled. So, EVERYONE MUST HAVE BEEN FOOLED! Why? Because you are gullible and over-emotional?

I already said Henry did a great job acting. I can see people believing him. I personally didn't. I would love WWE to fool me. I look forward to it. It has happened before. But, although this was a great acting performance in and of itself, the message he was trying to pass...I didn't buy it. You did, that's fine. But, this thought that EVERYONE was fooled -- because you puppets are too butt blind to see where it was going-- is ridiculous.

"Admit it, I will have respect for you". HAHA! I need the respect of a teary-eyed sissy like I need Mark Henry in the WWE. I'm good with neither.

The only people who knew Mark Henry's speech was fake, were those who have been reading the backstage reports that he isn't retiring.

Or have been paying attention to how wrestling has been done for the past 30 years....

I don't read other wrestling sites. Not that WrestleZone is full of great reporters and an intelligent forum base...Example from yesterday was an article calling attention to a...ready for this...a naked boob! (Good for the lot of you who can't get a woman to take her top off). But the kicker was it was followed by "Mature Audiences Only". Sweet irony...

But, I don't care to read backstage news, or spoilers or anything else. I will watch if I care. And Mark Henry is as low on my give-a-shit list as it gets. So, another idiot who thinks he knows how everyone thinks.

You jerks were taken for a ride and are finding comfort in the fact that others were too. Saying "everyone" was fooled is a total reach and plain wrong. Just be glad you and your fellow morons have this in common and move on.

Again, great job by Henry. His years in the WWE have been mediocre at best and he has never put an ass in a seat, but this performance was a good job. He fooled a lot of people. Not me, not others. But, he fooled a lot of idiots who can't admit they were wrong and others were right. More irony...wrestling fans should be used to being wrong when others are right. That's why you're 40 years old, chanting "What?" in the crowd, wearing your favorite hero's t-shirt and giggling like bitches when someone drops a "pipe bomb" and smart people are actually contributing to society.

Of course, I am talking about the sad majority, not the innocent kids enjoying a form of entertainment aimed at children or the sound-minded adults who enjoy wrestling for what it is...nostalgia-based entertainment. The rest of you lift right out of society like Mark Henry lifts out of the WWE roster.

I'm watching the segment again on Smackdown, and not only does it look like's really retiring, it's one of the better retirement speeches in recent memory. It was totally convincing and maybe he does have future in classy arty films. He fooled me, I was standing at attention getting a little misty eyed, thinking about how long Henry has been there and the eras he's went through. Cena was pure class and his guard was totally down. Henry fooled everyone and I think Cena will be fighting for all us who bought into his speech against him soon. It was a very unique and shocking way to start a feud with John Cena to say the least.

Mark Henry did a phenomenal job selling that retirement speech. Crowd was chanting his name hardcore. I lost my voice doing the same thing. A gal behind me got a bit tear eyed as well. That was just bloody brilliant! :)
