Ambrose Needs A Better Finisher

Getting Noticed By Management
The Headlock Driver is a pretty decent move, but as a finishing maneuver, it seems odd to me and lacks a bit of "oomph." If you had the power to give Dean Ambrose a new finishing move - assuming that you would even give him a new finishing move - what would it be? I vote for resurrecting Jake Roberts' DDT. I love the way Roberts could grab an opponent out of nowhere and take them down head first with the DDT, similar to the Diamond Cutter and RKO. That kind of move imo would fit Ambrose's character to a T, seeing as how he's supposed to be this crazed-lunatic who can strike at any moment (backstage sneak attacks and whatnot), and the notion that you won't be getting back up if he can just manage to hook his arm around your head and neck and bring you down into the DDT out of nowhere sort of exemplifies that.

I think a good way of introducing it to the fans and making the first steps to conditioning them to accept it as his new finisher is to have him DDT Seth Rollins onto a pile of cinder blocks. Just using it to drive Rollins' head into a pile of bricks automatically makes the move look devastating, and if he continues to use the move as his finisher from here on out, people will quickly get the picture and follow along.

I totally disagree. Dirty Deeds is an awesome finisher. He could use something to compliment, maybe a submission move of some sort or a top rope move for when he faces bigger guys, but I love the Dirty Deeds. Especially when it's sold by guys who know how to take it like Seth Rollins, RVD, etc.

The only new thing he needs is a new nickname.

"The lunatic fringe"? What the hell does that even mean?

It means he's nuts, which suits his character perfectly. First time I heard it was during a match when I think I was JBL said, "Ambrose, the Lunatic Fringe of the Shield is starting". The name seems to have stuck.

I also think his finisher is fine and love how he talks to the crowd before he does it. Also love the way he gets seems to go through the top and middle rope only to come back with one hell of a clothesline. Ambrose is great and my favourite out of all three Shield members. He's definitely the most entertaining.

I'd stick with Dirty Deeds as well, love the name and the move itself is fine. When Brose falls back into the 2nd rope, legs flailing, and spring out of it to hit the opposition with a clothesline, I mark out every time. Such a cool looking move.

I agree with Nate. I think it looks badass and looks even better when sold well. And like Nate said, he definitely could use a complimentary move. I know he was using a different move as his finisher back when he was wrestling dark matches. If I remember correctly it was a knee to the head or something. That would work well for Dean against the big guys. It could even set up Dirty Deeds.

Regardless, Dirty Deeds fits Dean well; it's a savage-ass, brutal maneuver, a totally believable finisher.

I disagree.

Dirty Deeds fit his "lunatic fringe' persona perfectly.

Atm, I don't think Ambrose's in-ring work requires much change, tbh. He seems the crazy brawler type, first and foremost and most of his moves are very suitable for his character, at this point.

As Nate pointed out, maybe some sort of submission maneuvre could be added in.

I have to go with the consensus. I've got no problem with Dirty Deeds at all. I like the name, I like how he can pop it quickly almost out of nowhere and that it seems to just mesh well with Ambrose. Ambrose is this "lunatic fringe", this almost pathologically unbalanced guy, so the notion of his finisher being something of a modified bulldog in which he drives his opponent's head & face into the ground works for me.

Ambrose isn't a powerhouse guy so stuff like powerbombs, various suplexes, throws, etc. don't really fit. He doesn't have the cold, methodical aspect of a technical guy, so submissions don't really seem like they'd pack much of an oomph. He's not a super agile high flyer, so some variation of a splash, moonsault, leg drop from the top, etc. doesn't fit. The guy's mostly a brawler that's likely to walk into a barrage of punches if that's what it takes to land a single punch himself. It's a dirty, brawling style and a dirty, brawling style guy needs a simple, uncomplicated move that looks easy, fits with his persona and is unique to him. To me, Dirty Deeds works just fine.

His finisher is just fine. What I don't/didn't like is how Axel basically has the same finisher or how ( thank the LAWD he is gone ) Mister Rose up the Bud used basically same finisher. We had 3 wrestlers with basically the same finisher and at the time I really wanted him to change Dirty Deeds. But now its just fine. A submission would be ok also.

So, you don't like Dirty Deeds as Ambrose' finisher but advocate he starts using the DDT? They are simply variations of the same move!!!

I do like Dirty Deeds but I do agree that he might need another finisher.

I think that maybe adding a certain submission move. Not really a technical submission but more so just a primal, painful looking one like the Crossface or something just to further his "lunatic" character.

He's the kind of guy who's so naturally charismatic that he's going to captivate his audience as a face regardless of his move really. For guys his size, the finisher, while important, is not the end all be all as compared to let's say Brock Lesnar's F5 which is very convincing for his beast personality.

Yes, most of the big or over finishers are either unique and flashy ones (like Rollins' curb stomp) or come out of nowhere (like Reigns' spear). Ambrose's finisher in that sense is more traditional, and thus lacks that oomph factor like you mentioned... nothing else wrong with that, except that he will have to weaken the opponent enough before executing it, and that can be quite a daunting task with regular moves against bigger opponents- whom he will face a lot in the main-event level. So I think he should debut a signature move that will serve the purpose of momentarily stunning the opponent for the finishing maneuver, while the rope-rebound serves as a mid-match comeback.

Honestly, I don't see no problem with dirty deeds. It's a credible finisher. Now if he goes into the upper card and becomes a top 5 main eventer, then he and WWE Might give it some thought of demoting dirty deeds into a signature move rather than a finisher. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Like seemingly 90% of the world's population, I disagree with the OP. That move looks brutal and I cringe when Dean nails it especially well. Not to mention that the name is AWESOME. Dirty Deeds? That's just badass and amazing on multiple levels. I can't think of a more fitting finisher for Ambrose other than biting someone's ear off.

I disagree. The headlock/bulldog driver is a good solid move, and looks nasty if someone takes it in a spike style way.

The DDT would really have to be rebuilt in my eyes, it's so common to see someone kick out at 2 of it that I don't see it becoming popular as a finisher again.

Remember when Cesaro was using the German as a finish? I was starting to believe it in as a falsie again when suddenly, bam, Lesnar and Cena use so many of them it is no longer believable, in WWE anyway.
There is a local indy here that has a guy use a bodyslam/leg drop as a finish, so I guess anything can get over if done right but I don't think WWE can get a DDT over unless everyone else is banned from using it.

Like the finisher, it's got the sudden impact of all the finishers you are seeing come up... the Party Foul, Sister Abigail... can be used on anyone... just depends on the sell.

Backland-style Cross Chicken Wing would be my preference if you were gonna chuck a submission maneuver in Ambroses arsenal.

Dirty Deeds is the best finisher in the WWE right now. Hands down. And you want the wrestler with the most upside to just change his finisher? C'mon man!

If he adds a finisher to his repetoire, he needs to add a submission... something that looks like it could break a limb... like a simple arm breaker like the Pain Killer or Key Lock or something... but absolutely no change to Dirty Deeds.
