No band other than the Beatles has as much influence in terms of creation of Genre than Black Sabbath. Tony Iommi created a sound on guitar that has influenced so many bands that if you can find a Metal band and even a Rock band around today that is not influenced by Sabbath in some way. They are Lying. Ozzy's voice brings the Terror that you should feel when Listening to "Black Sabbath". Sabbath are so influential that a Radio DJ in New Zealand devotes a 5-6 hour block on the Sunday closest to Halloween to Sabbath and he runs out of time each and every year to play all he wants to play.

Gonna go with Eric Clapton, who has been doing it longer. Perhaps if Sabbath had kept Ozzy for all of these years, but, when you consider Clapton's involvement with the Yardbirds, Cream, and Blind Faith, in addition to his solo stuff, I don't think Sabbath can match up.

That's the thing about this tourney, davi, you cannot consider Cream, Yardbirds, etc. in this match-up. This is just Clapton's solo work, because his bands were in the tourney as well. When we say "Sabbath," though, we'd look at both the Ozzy days and the (IMO) musically superior Ronnie James Dio Days.

I still went with Clapton, but it was not an easy choice. While Sabbath are one of the triad of Heavy Metal, Clapton is a Godfather of Guitar. I don't expect him to get too much further, but I voted Clapton here.

Why not? rules state their entire body of work, and I don't think its fair to exclude work done in multiple bands. Rules do not state that solo artists can only be considered for their solo work. Thus, I don't see anything stating that I cannot consider Clapton's work with the Yardbirds. When we say Ozzy, isn't it implied that his stuff with Sabbath is included, despite being listed separately? Further, can we really separate Phil Collins from Genesis? It seems to me that if a solo artist is listed, any previous band is fair game, even if included in a different place. Clapton certainly had heavy influence on a lot of people prior to going solo.

You don't take into account Cream and The Yardbirds because they are in this thing. Soit is purely Claptons solo work. I enjoy it but I will say that Sabbath is more influential based on what I said. Clapton is great but in this tough match up I went with Sabbath.
