12 originally planned Wrestlemania matches.

Occasional Pre-Show
I’m not saying these are all real but some of them are like for example Jericho has been on the record stating he was supposed to face ryback, and the hhh vs Cena rematch was really supposed to happen.

1. Wrestlemania. 29. Jericho (as a heel) vs ryback, Vince lobbied for Jericho to face fandango instead.

2. wrestlemania 30. Cm punk vs Triple h,
(Punk walked out)

3. Wrestlemania. 17. Hbk vs triple h,
Hbk rejected he was retired at the time.

4. Wrestlemania 19.Rock vs Goldberg.
(Goldberg wasn’t ready to compete in time)

5. Austin vs rock. Wrestlemania 16. Rematch.
Austin’s neck issues caused it to be pushed back until wrestlemania 17. Rumors were the same scenario would have happened at 16 with Austin turning heel.

6. Wrestlemania 27. Wade Barrett vs the undertaker.
(No idea why it was changed) also remember hearing that apparently they wanted Brock to come back to face undertaker as well.

7. Hhh vs Beniot. Singles match. Wrestlemania 20.
(Got Changed to a triple threat) Hbk was thrown in because they wanted the feud between him and hhh to continue. There was talks of possibly a triple threat ladder match but it got changed to just a normal triple threat.

8. Hhh vs Cena. Wrestlemania 23. Rematch. (Hhh got injured)

9. Triple h vs orton wrestlemania 21.
Orton was getting negative reactions as a babyface so they decided to go with Batista instead.

10. Sheamus vs triple h (for the title) This did happen obviously but it was supposed to be for the wwe title not a non title match.

11. The miz vs hbk wrestlemania 26.
I don’t know why but I’m glad they didn’t have the miz of all people retire hbk.

12. Drew McIntyre vs undertaker. Wrestlemania 26.
maybe they didn’t think drew could put on a good match with undertaker or Maybe they didn’t think he was ready hell if I know.

This is kind of what I was getting at in the Bret Hart thread. WrestleMania plans change all the time. In fact Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels was supposed to Main Event WrestleMania 13 but as we know “Shawn lost his “smile” and Bret even said on the Rivalry Doc that he & Shawn were meant to Main Event XIV too.

There are plenty of others from the 80s and 90s that didn’t happen but were “supposed” to or were heavily considered

WrestleMania IV - Hogan vs Andre for the World Title: while this match did happen on the event it was as part of the World Title tournament as opposed to been the actual main event for the belt.

WrestleMania VI: Hogan vs Zeus II - This was what Vince originally wanted for the main event in 1990 but as time wore on they realised that Zeus was a lost cause and moved on to then battle of babyfaces with Hogan & Warrior instead. Even that main event wasn’t guaranteed and the Royal Rumble 1990 match was the test to see how the crowd would react to the pair squaring off.

WrestleMania VII - Hogan vs Warrior II - the rematch was on the cards after Warrior dropped the ball as Champion. Ultimately tensions between Iraq & the USA are what scuppered this one with the WWF instead opting to cash in on that storyline instead. Add to that Vince hated babyface vs babyface matches too.

WrestleMania VIII - Hogan vs Flair - this match was a no brainer. Hogan had lost the title to Taker due to Flair & winning it back in controversial fashion meant Hogan was stripped of the belt. Flair won the Rumble in 92 and became the new world Champion. So the plan of course was for an aggrieved Hogan challenging Flair for the belt. This match was even advertised on some WWF programming such as Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, after the steroid scandal started Hogan decidws to retire and apparently Vince wasn’t happy with the business it did on house shows aswell so the plans were changed.
