WCW: Houston Sub-Regional

That is indeed an interesting matchup. Taz was capable of getting the Tazmission on bigger guys as evidenced by him locking it on Bam Bam. Now Bam Bam is by far and away a better wrestler than Fatu, but Taz lost to Bam Bam. Rikishi was pretty bad in the ring, but he had some stuff that could hurt Taz. That kick he would use and the piledriver would both stop Taz. The Tazmission is equally lethal though, so it could easily go either way.

There is a ton of good possibilities with Rikishi and Tazz. It's tough to decide what each would need to do to win, and the debate should be fun.

The match that I targeted as being a top match was Duggan v. Kidman. On one hand, you have the bigger, stronger, brawling Duggan. On the other, you have the more agile, faster, quicker Kidman. What would win? Neither was at the top of any company they worked for, but both were loved by the fans.

As of now, I'm picking Kidman and Tazz to win both, but there's plenty of time to look in to both more, before making a final vote.

Well this is a...eh... interesting bracket to say the least.
I'm looking at the Jim Duggan vs Kidman match a chuckling a bit. Should be a classic!

But there's simply no one that can rival the Undertaker here. Yoko is the second favourite, but really doesn't stand much of a chance.

Shame, I really wanted to see Shelley do well.

All right, the top half of this bracket is easy to call: Undertaker will go all the way, as he really faces no competition here. However, the bottom half of this bracket is a tough one: I know I said I would support Funk, but I may have to renege on my deal with the addition of Mitsuharu Misawa, who, in terms of pure wrestling ability, may be the greatest wrestler of all time. Anyway, I predict that it will be The Undertaker vs. either Funk or Misawa in the finals of this sub-region. I'll be supporting The Undertaker's opponent; while I think The Undertaker is a great wrestler, I don't think he has anything on either Funk or Misawa.

Alex Shelley v. D-Von could be a very...boring...match.

As a tag match, they could probably headline any show TNA has, and could certainly get on to some WWE PPVs. But, this is a singles match. D-Von is nothing without Buh-Buh in his corner. Shelley on the other hand, is a great singles performer.

Shelley should win this easily, but it could be close if people vote for which tag team they liked more.

It's too bad the winner has to face Funk.

Two great matches here. Obvioulsy Khali beats The Undertaker. Watch Judgment Day 2006 for that match. If it was a gimmick match then maybe, but we're talking about prime Khali here. He killed The Undertaker in that match, and for several weeks before and after. Some might point out how Khali hasn't beaten Undertaker lately, well Khali isn't in his prime now. His knees are fucked. Goodbye to that argument.

Kidman will also likely beat Duggan. Although that's bullshit.

OK Sly. Time to step up and show us what you have on Van Hammer. He'll need all the help you can give him to beat Lawler.

He's bigger, but that's about it. Lawler is a much smarter wrestler, and is way too good to bew upset by "a nipple ring wearing tool" (to quote Will, again). I doubt he'd bve able to use the piledriver, but he'll have something up his sleeve to finish off Hammer.

Let's say he does beat Lawler. He's not going to beat Taz or Rikishi anyway.

This Sub Region becomes more interesting by the moment. It's a possibility that the top seed gets bounced in Round 1, but if he doesn't, he could damn well run threw this thing unscathed.

Taker Khali, Khali Taker, the giant pink elephant in the room. When push comes to shove, am I going to be able to vote Khali over Taker based on matches they had in 2006. I'm not sure, but I suspect that the Deadman is going to move on. He'll face the winner of Duggan and Kidman, and quite frankly, Billy Kidman sucks and should go home, and not even be close. Regardless, whomever wins the Taker vs. Khali match will move onto round 3 without much of a fight in round 2.

Jerry Lawler takes on Heavy Metal Van Hammer, and put it this way, I don't know if there is enough bullshit in a sewage plant that could get me to vote for Van Hammer over Jerry Lawler, and I suspect others will have their BS detectors on as well. I'm going with Lawler to face off against the winner of Taz and Rikishi, which Taz should win. Yes, it's not ECW, and yes, Taz is out sized, but he has choked out Bigelow before, and Rikishi is no Bam Bam. Rikishi was a fat ass in a thong, nothing more, nothign less. Taz very well could go onto round 3.

Terry Funk should have no problem with Danny Hodge. Terry Funk is getting much more respect as i stay on these forums longer, and if XFear makes an appearance, expect an ungodly push from him. He'll have no problem with the winner of Alex Shelley and D-Von. Both are more known for their tag wrestling, but I think Shelley is certainly more tolerable then D-Von and Chris Sabin.

Then you see the big ugly match of this round, Earthquake and Yoko. Both men were big nasty monsters, but I suspect Yoko will get the nod. He'll face off against more then likely James Storm, even though I'm not going to sleep on Misawa. However, Storm drinks beer, and he'll go on, and get killed by Yoko.

Round 3 is looking to be Taz vs. the Undertaker, and um, yeah. That sets up for Terry Funk vs. Yokozuna, and I'll be pulling for the Funker to pull of the "upset" over the sumo. This sets up a potential rematch of the WWE Regional finals from year one, Undertaker vs. Terry Funk.

The Undertaker vs. the Great Khali: 57-25. The amazing thing here, Khali managed to get 25 votes against the Undertaker. Even though he lost, that's a victory within itself.

Jim Duggan vs. Billy Kidman: 27-27. Kidman sucks, and how he managed to tie Duggan is beyond me.

Jerry Lawler vs. Van Hammer: 41-5. Heavy Metal Van Fail.

Taz vs. Rikishi: 36-4. The Extreme Midget destroys Rikishi in round 1, setting up a match with the King.

Terry Funk vs. Danny Hodge: 32-2. The Hardcore Legend has enough to take down the technical wrestler in Hodge with ease.

Alex Shelley vs. D-Von Dudley: 34-14. In a match with two tag wrestler specialist, the Gun beats out the Boy.

Yokozuna vs. Earthquake: 33-3. In a match with more then one half ton of mass in the ring, Yoko dominates a man that dominated many others.

Misawa vs. James Storm: 29-4. Team Japan rolls on as Misawa dominates the Cowboy.

Tazz and Lawler looks like an interesting matchup. Tazz has made Lawler submit before but that was when Lawler was a commentator and not wrestling every night. Lawler is good but Tazz should and will beat him.

The Undertaker received a bye do to the tie between Jim Duggan and Billy Kidman in the first round.

Lawler vs. Taz: 8-19. The Human Suplex Machine has no problem tossing the King of Memphis around the ring. Taz moves on FTW!

Funk vs. Shelley: 21-2. No problem here for the Living Legend himself, Terry Funk. Shelley is a glorified indy star, and gets smacked around the ring like one.

Yokozuna vs. Misawa: 24-27. congratulatiosn are in order for Tdigs as Misawa comes back the last day of voting,a nd topples teh WWE champion.

I'm looking forward to the Undertaker/Taz showdown. I don't know if Undertaker being over a foot taller than Taz will help or hurt him. Taz can still suplex him all over the ring but will that still be enough to take down the Undertaker? We will see.

Final Results of the Houston Sub-Regional

The Undertaker vs. Taz: 73-7: Oh boy, after receiving a second round bye, the Undertaker gets back to action by absolutely destroying Taz, by over 60 votes. First reaction, holy shit. The Undertaker damn well might be the favorite to win this thing, again.

Terry Funk vs. Misawa:48-10: The japanese legend falls to the former NWA legend, turned hardcore legend. The Funker moves on to face a man that has eliminated him in the tournament in years past.

Round 4: The match moves to the Georgia Dome, in a to be determined gimmick match, The Undertaker defends his Wrestlezone Tournament championship against Terry Funk.

Undertaker would have a tough fight ahead of him against Funk, in a regular match. Make it a gimmick match, and it's not far-fetched to believe that Funk can win here. There's nothing anyone can do, that beats a man running at you with a flaming branding iron. I'll have to see what the match is, before picking a winner here...

I blame myself for Misawa losing. I should have made more of an effort. I don't have that much of a problem with Funk going over though, as I think he is a fantastic wrestler. But, Misawa, in the worst-case scenario, should have only lost by less than five votes.

Well, next year, he's the man I'm bitch-betting on. He should easily be in the sweet sixteen, if not in the final four.

If Funk gets the right gimmick match, he could knock Undertaker out. We can only hope. Funk is a hardcore legend, and The Undertaker, whilst tough, is nowhere near that level.
