I think it was deception been awhile. He was buried in the academy so when he came back to life he killed many monks at the academy. And your right since at the end of deception he also came back to life but in Armeggedon he was still a zombie. Point is its not really known if he is alive or not i would guess he is since he is human in Dc vs Mk but they could just be making him human again for fan service.
