You're... You're joking, right? - Randy Orton is unquestionably a top player.

no denying Orton IS a top guy. Personally I think he's just slightly overrated just in my opinion I find him a bit generic but over the years he's grown on me just a little. But I miss the "legend killer" I think this is where he took off but he's ok now i mean i dont even know what his deal is heel or face or what

Madden is often mean in his articles. I usually don't agree with him. He is WAY beyond wrong here. Just because he doesn't like Orton doesn't mean he isn't worthy of being the top guy on Smackdown. Orton worked hard to earn his spot and he deserved the promotion because he has gotten so over with the fans during the past few years. No one else on the roster should have gotten it over him, he is good enough to be the focal point of a brand without being overshadowed by Cena on Raw. Forget Madden, he doesn't know what he's talking about this time.

I was going to create another, unrelated Randy Orton thread but it would inevitably get merged with this one anyway. You know, to encourage discussion by packing as many posts under one generic title as possible. Faultless. Anyway, I have things to do and I forgot what I wanted to talk about. That in mind, what follows is pretty much a stream of consciousness.

I'm going to have to give Randy Orton some credit. If he carries on the way he's going I might just be able to come out of the closet and admit I'm a fan of his some day soon. Not today though, so just forget you read that. Mm, Turkish delight!

He's had some consistently great matches during the last three pay-per-views - not to forget the one he had with Christian on SmackDown. I refuse to believe that's entirely because he worked with superior opponents. I suppose the test will be when he doesn't work with someone the caliber of CM Punk or Christian. And having some semblance of emotion trickle through, no matter how seemingly random, is strangely entertaining. Ratings schmatings. Like I give a fuck.

Don't get me wrong; I'd still rather have Christian as champion.

Orton works hard in the locker room, is very well respected (not necessarily liked) backstage and understands the business (as a third generation superstar).

He is not horrible on the mic but I wouldn't say he's great either.

I've always liked Randy Orton as a heel and tweener. While his actual matches are generic, I like his "presence." It's hard to describe. I guess it's just his overall presence in the ring that makes me watch his matches even though it's the same few moves.

One thing to keep in mind is that Triple H likes Orton. He feels like he mentored Orton along with Ric Flair and so IMO, Triple H has had a big say and played a big part in Orton's rise.
