Your Favourite Beatles Song?

In celebration of IC putting John Lennon into the 2nd Bi-Annual Music Tournament, I donned my favourite Beatles T-shirt and starting listening to some of the enormous back-catalogue of this wonderful band.

The Beatles are a band that have many brilliant songs and if you ask 100 people what is their favourite song of theirs, I doubt you would get the same answer from the majority of people. Yes! They had their classics that everyone will know and love. However, when it comes to favourites, I think people stand divided.

For that reason, I would love to know your favourite.

I absolutely adore this song. utterly mind-blowing. Listen to that bass line!

*Dies happy*

They did this as an official thing recently and Day in the Life won:

But personally, and it's killing me to pick just one, I think my favourite is Taxman. It combines everything they were good at, the vocal harmonies, the musical ingenuity, the wit and social observation. Oddly enough, it's a Harrison song, who's solo stuff I like the least by far.

Ringo Starr is underrated (I remember hearing this off an episode of Zero Punctuation)

I'm not a big Beatles dude but I love this song.

Already mentioned, A Day In The Life and Eleanor Rigby are two of my favourites. A Day In The Life perhaps being my all time favourite.

However here are a few Beatles songs I am very fond of:

Fantastic band, really helped me love music like I do.

Eleanor Rigby, I'm so Tired, and Obla Di Obla Da. I like em all but I love those songs...

Actually, oddly enough "I want to hold your hand" is my favorite. It always puts me in a great mood and reminds me of a simpler time. On a side note if you can find a cover of "imagine" by Dave Matthews and John Popper of blues travelor, do yourself a favor and give it a listen. Popper rips the harmonica like he always does, but I think his vocals on this track top even Dave's!

I recognize how important they are to music, but I can't stand the fucking Beatles.

I truly do not understand how anyone could have this opinion after listening to their album work. Do you not like expertly crafted pop music or something?

As for favorite Beatles song...impossible to choose. Just impossible. Maybe I'll do album-by-album. "Anna" is probably my favorite song off their debut LP.

Yeah, I am with X on this one, tdigs.

I mean, you can dislike them if that is your thing but I have never met a person in my life who just hated everything that they heard.

What do you think it is that turns you off of them? I am seriously interested.

^^^ this, I've never been able to get into the Beatles, their music just doesn't do it for me, and I know plenty other people that feel the same way

That sounds fun

Please Please Me · Love Me Do
With The Beatles · All My Loving - worst album probably
A Hard Day's Night · Can't Buy Me Love
Beatles for Sale · Eight Days A Week
Help! · Ticket To Ride
Rubber Soul · In My Life
Revolver · Taxman
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band ·Getting Better
The White Album · Julia
Yellow Submarine · All You Need Is Love (bit of a cop out, admittedly)
Abbey Road · Here Comes The Sun
Let It Be · Let it Be

Please Please Me: Do You Want To Know A Secret
With The Beatles: Till There Was You (its a cover, but I still like it)
A Hard Day's Night: Tell Me Why/I Should Have Known Better (I cant decide)
Beatles for Sale: Eight Days a Week
Help!: Ticket To Ride
Rubber Soul: Michelle
Revolver: And Your Bird Can Sing
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: Fixing A Hole
Yellow Submarine: All You Need Is Love
Abbey Road: Maxwell's Silver Hammer (It was tough to choose this over other greats such as Oh Darling, Mean Mr. Mustard, and Golden Slumbers)
Let It Be: Get Back

I had to leave out the White Album because there are too many to choose from. I love all the songs on there really.

I've always loved "I want to hold your hand". I was listening to it yesterday and according to my sister Glee did it. :banghead:

One great pleasure I had was last year when Beatles Rock Band came out. A Friend of mine assured me that "Beatles Fucking Suck", when asked to name some songs, he named Yellow Submarine and Lucy in the sky..

As we played through the game, he constantly recognised songs that he loved and didnt know the Beatles wrote, or thought another band from the time had done. By the end of playing through the whole game about 2 hours later, he muttered that they were pretty good. That was a fun two hours to watch.
