Your Favourite Band

I couldn't find a thread with this, so I probably didn't look hard enough. I mean this is pretty simple isn't it? Just put your favourite band/artist. . And hey, while you're at it, why not give us a few reasons why you like them? Help you through a hard break up? Get you pumped at the gym? Just a really great band? It's all going to be appreciated in here. And you can even put your favourite album or something.

So I guess I'll lead by example huh?

The Beatles

Everyone knows who they are. If you don't maybe you should grab a CD or tape or record of theirs and have a listen. Because you are more than likely going to have heard their songs before, so infused with pop culture are they. This band is the be all and end all of music. Everyone wants to be the next Beatles. They were influential, and they music was groundbreaking. Every album they released, from Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, to The White Album to Abbey Road was not only great listening, but also revolutionized popular music, and brought something to the table. Every album, you know you're going to get something special.

But why do I like them? I couldn't give a damn whether they were the most popular band ever or whether they were stuck in a garage just jamming. I just like their music, whether it was written 40 years ago or not. It's great music for anytime and mood, and their songs can mean so much or so little. My favourite album?

Abbey Road. Just a great album that has all your classics on it that are great, such as Come Together and Here Comes the Sun, but also a few songs that probably aren't as well known nonetheless. "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and "Because" are some pretty good examples. This album is definately worth a listen if you are interested.

Enough about my favourites, what about yours?

Mine is deffinatly Pink Floyd. All of their songs are pure greatness (Comfortably Numb,Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 AKA We Dont Need No Education,Money,Have A Cigar etc.)

My favorite band of all time is Blink 182. I just have always felt a close relation to most of their songs. If I played every one of their songs, I could easily tie it to a moment in my life. I hated when they disbanded and I hate that it took Travis getting in that horrendous plane crash to get them to reunite. While Plus 44 was pretty well a rip off of Blink 182 and I enjoyed their music, nothing can beat Blink 182. Their mockery of pop culture in All The Small Things is a classic. Travis Barker is one of the best drummers I have ever seen, and has and always will inspire me. I cannot wait for their album to come out.

My favorite song by them is Always, and my favorite album by them is Dude Ranch.

I have to go with Aerosmith... Band has been around forever! They've had some many great hits, and still are coming out with good songs! I remember the first time that I heard Sweet Emotion, (it was the first song of theirs I heard.) and thought it was amazing! Steven Tyler is one of the best front men of all time. Then Joe Perry=amazing! Guy had created some of the best riffs I've ever heard. Just love the band!

How do I post in this thread, without making it overly long? Let's try.

Narrowing it down to my top two, here we go:

Kittie- More specifically, Paperdoll era lineup and Funeral for Yesterday era. Don't get me wrong, all the Lineups are good, but these two the pinnacle in the awesomeness of the girls. Morgan's vox, mixed with the instruments, is simply angelic (whilst still being brutal.) For examples of the great music, please consult: Brackish, Career Suicide, Funeral for Yesterday.

Mayhem- How can you not love a band who puts out a single entitled "Chainsaw Gutsfuck"? Aside from all that, though, I enjoy these guys simply for one reason: They not only gave birth to Black Metal, but they've generated more drama than any other band. One murder, one suicide, several church burnings, and the culprit of the murder and church burnings was detained on a weekend pass from prison with a small arsenal of weapons. Now, I'm not condoning these actions, but they make for great conversation.

Coheed and Cambria.

It wasn't even a really hard choice. The band is what I believe great Alternative/Progressive Rock to be. I can listen to everyone of their songs and feel like I've gleamed something new from them every time. Which is fitting, considering Claudio hasn't even nailed down what every songs exactly means.

The discography of Coheed and Cambria runs from Second Stage Turbine Blade to No World for Tomorrow. There are about 2 CDs in between, and they're meant to tell the story of the Amory Wars. The Amory Wars being a fictional final war of the Universe, in which the titular character..Claudio...brings about the end of the Universe in order to save it from the never ending war.

Coheed and Cambria have a fierce fan base, and they have the musical chops to back it up. Claudio Sanchez, the lead singer, recently pulled a Serj Tankian and released a completely solo side project named The Prize Fighter Inferno that delves deeper into the beginning of the War.

I will close with a few of my favorite songs from them. Awesome on my Youtube.

I'm one of those people that have alot of favorite bands but 1 band that I never got tired of and have listened to for over 15 years is Sublime. Sublime was probably the first band I fell in love with when I was young, albeit I didn't have a clue what their lyrics meant back then. I always loved their sound and just about every song they ever wrote. Tis a shame Brad died back in 96 before they had a chance to get huge.

Coolest logo too, I actually saw a guy with this tattoed on his chest last year on spring break in Panama.

My favorite band, tough choice, seeing as I have quite a few, but I guess I'm gonna just have to choose one, so here it goes.

Linkin Park: my first proper exposure to the Metal / Rock world, at the age of 6, In the end playing week after week on the danish charts, it got me hooked instantly, and I've loved everything they've been putting out year after year, although I must admit I'm a little saddened by the loss of their old style from Meteora and Hybrid Theory, I still believe Minutes to Midnight was an awesome album that I feel doesn't get the recognition it really deserves.

like supercrazy, im big blink 182 fan. however, my favorite band by far is weezer. their first cd, the blue album, is highly underrated. there isnt a bad song on that cd. it seems that all of their songs are good and i am never disappointed by any of their work. the funny thing about them is that many of their songs are very simple, yet they are still excellent. i cant wait to see them at the bamboozle this year.

Mastodon. The 2000s saw a real surge in the popularity of metal; bands like System of a Down, Slipknot, Lamb of God, and Killswitch Engage became household names, veterans like Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth released their best efforts in years, and more obscure acts like Dillinger Escape Plan, Cynic, Converge and Meshuggah continued to reinvent the wheel. However, no band dominated the decade like Mastodon. Their 2002 debut Remission put them on the map with dirty, thrashing guitar riffs, hardcore-influenced shouts, and amazing drum work. However, it was 2004's Leviathan that established the band as a serious force. Much like how Sabbath ruled the 70s, Metallica owned the 80s, and Pantera dominated the 90s, Mastodon was the band who would wave the metal flag for the 2000s. Leviathan featured a concept based on Moby Dick, and blended the bands established hardcore sound with some progressive elements. 2006's major-label debut Blood Mountain increased the progressive elements and boasted a more ambitious concept about a man lost in the wilderness, seeking a crystal skull. 2009's Crack the Skye was the most progish album yet, but the metal was still there. It also had the most complex concept to date, about a parapeligic man travelling through space, meeting Rasputin's spirit and facing the Devil to return to Earth. Each album has had its highlights, but the band has consistantly been better than everything around them, regardless of genre.

As you could guess from both my signature and avatar, I am a massive lover of Breaking Benjamin's music. I don`t know exactly why I`m so captivated by their songs , but I am. There`s not a single song by them that doesn`t hold some value to me.

As for my other favorite band I have to go with Rise Against. These guys are the ablsolute shit. They are also the first band to make me look beyond an artists music. These guys are great human beings and I really admire them.

Since you mentioned artist as well, I`m going to throw in LIGHTS. Yeah, LIGHTS. If you don`t know this girl look her up. Great song writer and easily the greatest person I have ever encountered in my life.

NoFX. Because they're more fun than your favorite band. And they've got better drugs.

Also, because they finance and produce all of their own records, they seldom give interviews, and I look like a hybrid love child of Fat Mike and El Hefe.

For a good sampling of their stuff, look up:

So Long, And Thanks For All The Shoes

Punk in Drublic

Wolves in Wolves' Clothing

This is really hard for because there are loads of bands I like such as Nirvana, Alice In Chains etc, trouble is most of these bands only released a few albums each and while they were extremely good, we don't know if the success would have continued, so I'm going with a band that has been going for nearly thirty years

Red Hot Chili Peppers.

These guys have gone through so much (suffering the loss of their guitarist Hillel Slovak, the departure of Jack Irons, John Frusciante becoming an addict etc) and their music is still going strong, each one of their albums sounds different yet similar so it's relatable but the same old stuff, and are one of the most successful bands ever. Not bad for some guys who started playing in clubs for a laugh.
