Your Favorite Sting Match in TNA?

rko57

The Icon
Now Sting has been the talk of the wrestling world ever since Monday night RAW about the 2-21-11 thing. And since Sting is my favorite wrestler ever, I am loving it!!! And I really do hope that he has signed with the WWE. Even if its a month long deal where he appears at WM and the HOF. With that aside, it seems certain, at least for the time being, his time in TNA is over (like I said, for the time being, so don't jump all over me)

Now that that said, he has had a great run in TNA, a 4-1 record at BFG, main evented BFG 4 straight years, 3 Time TNA Champion, etc. With all that he has some very memorable bouts in TNA against numerous opponents, Jeff Jarrett, Abyss, Christian Cage, Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, etc. What is your favorite Sting match in TNA only?

I'm sure some will say his debut with Christian against JJ and Monty Brown just for the pop he got, which is still one of the loudest pops in TNA (if he got that kinda reaction in TNA, can you imagine what he would get on 2-21-11 if he shows up? I digress) Some might say one of his matches with JJ or one of his blood brawls with Abyss. Some might mention Samoa Joe at BFG08 where they fight through the crowd, Sting takes an ass whooping, but still wins. Some might say AJ Styles a year later because there was a great chance it would be his Final Curtain Call.

But my pick is not only my favorite match for Sting in TNA, but for all of TNA's history, I just love this match to death, and that is Sting vs Kurt Angle at Bound For Glory 2007. This was a dream match of mine, and it got fulfilled on this night in an awesome way. This match was everything I thought it would be, a great wrestling match the entire time, and he even won with the interference from Nash at the end.

That's just me though, what is it for y'all out there? If this is indeed the end of The Icon in TNA, I for one will be happy that he gave me many more memorable moments to add on to his WCW legacy, and will also be happy he is going to the WWE to get the great amazing sendoff that I feel he deserves and will also receive.

It's Sting v. Angle at Bound for Glory 2007, no question. Frankly I don't really see how anyone can say otherwise. The match itself was incredible, and on paper (and in the ring) it was an absolute dream match that headlined TNA's biggest Pay-Per-View of the year in a year when they were experiencing a ton of success.

Angle/Sting is a WrestleMania-esque type main-event that if it had taken place under a WWE banner would have sold millions of tickets/PPV buyrates and likely have gone down in history as one of the best matches in history.

TNA actually features this match featured on their YouTube channel under Classic Matches, so if anyone wants to watch the match again before casting their vote, I suggest you do:

The botch at the match conclusion where Sting was supposed to catch the bat (and not get hit right in the face with it) was nasty, but the match itself was still incredible, and the fans seemed to let the fact that that obviously wasn't supposed to happen go considering how intense of a match it was otherwise.

deffinatlely Sting and Angel at bound for glory 2007(talk about getting busted open the hard way), I also liked their empty arena match for controle of mem it wasn't great but I like the setting made it seem real personal that these two all time greats were willing to go at it with no crowd no reaction just what they believed in at the time.

Tough thread to answer when you have watched Sting back from the early 90's. For those that have seen the true (well used) Sting character, you cant even compare the TNA matches to the types of matches that he put on in WCW in the 90's. Would anyone agree that the Sting vs Hogan match at Starcade...98 (I think) may be one of the best matches of all time? The build up to his return to go against Hogan and the NWO...absolutely awesome! The ending was "Bischoffed" which put a damper on the whole match but I would say there is an arguement that Sting gave Hogan one of, if not his best match EVER! For those who are new to wrestling or just young wrestling fans please Youtube Sting in the 90's. He and Flair carried WCW in the early years!

I am very aware of what Sting did in his old days and grew up watching him, that's why I said specifically TNA since he is more then likely gone from TNA. If he was leaving WCW right now I would be posting a thread about your favorite Sting match in WCW. Did you not read the OP by me? Lol

Empty arena match vs Angle on Nitro...the build-up was great (Tna-wise) and it just seemed like a real old fashioned fist fight...

Sting vs. AJ from Bound For Glory 2009 for me. TNA was hitting home with me on a regular basis at the time, so everything came off very well. Having the ultimate youth vs. experience match at a time when the climate of the company was so positive came off better than the thousand other youth vs. experience matches the company had done under less than ideal conditions. The build was very low-key but it worked for me and on the night of, I got a competitive bout where the right man went over. Not a classic, but certainly the best Sting's had in TNA.
