We don’t really “observe” it. That’s the wrong word. It’s just something kinda funny, and it’s only still paid attention to because of the movie.

It's not. Just like Arbor day it's just another day. No one looks forward to it no, one observes it like they do other holidays.

I see it a useless holiday that won't get taken off the calender out of habit& tradition

Can any fellow American explain to me why we still observe Groundhog Day? There's nothing fun about it. The groundhog is less accurate than flipping a coin would be. Why do we hold on to this tradition? Is it really that marketable? I don't know a single person that gets hyped for today.

I think it is just one of those silly traditions that fill ten minutes of the morning news. I don't think anyone takes it seriously, but you know how small town traditions and festivals are. They make a huge deal about it in Punxsutawney with the whole group of guys in top hats and tuxes. Hell they even kayfabe the whole thing, planning out if Phil sees his shadow or not days in advance.

Just one of those silly slices of Americana.
