WZCW Discussion Thread

I think I should make a new character that speaks only Sanskrit. I won't translate any of it, but I promise all the dialogue will be amazing.

Speaking to anyone that is in creative or has been part of creative in the past: Has a review feedback ever influenced your decision on the voting of a match between wrestlers?

Do you mean feedback of a show, or feedback on someone's RP? If the former, it wouldn't ever effect my opinion of an RP. If the latter, I don't ever recall actually doing so, but I suppose it's not unfeasible that if I was really stuck on picking a match, I might check any feedback that was out there. But to my recollection I've never actually done that, specifically.

Nah it never did when I was on Creative. It wouldn't be fair because as it is, voting on RP's is subjective enough, taking someone else's opinion on an RP and using it to form my own I believe is wrong. When on Creative, I was tasked to judge as fairly as I could on the RP's, and that's what I would attempt to do it at all times.

People have their own tastes and opinions though, and I don't think its possible to not have any sort of bias. Let's take the most popular tag team in WZCW, Saxoteur. Many people loved their RP's, and I do admit the writing was fantastic, I did not care for the content as often as others. Again, my opinion on what I read, however that being said, the writing was usually crisp and engaging, so I voted for them very frequently because the overall writing was better than their opponents. I never had a set criteria on what made a better RP, it was more about the feel and the writing prowess. Often times you hear people talk about bullet point RPs where people kind of check off a list of the following: What happened on the shows, their current feud, their next opponent, and possibly some character building. Some guys that have been on Creative love that format, others like a more unique format.

I will fully admit I often times wrapped that bullet point style around a more unique setting and setup. You can see it in my earlier RPs, but what I did differently was flow those bullet points into a more theatrical voice and actions so it didn't seem as obvious. At this point I'm all about trying new things, thus why you see less and less dialogue about what has happened on the shows. Some things hit, some things don't. I tried a far more abstract storytelling for awhile with a lot more metaphors and a bit more vague description wrapped in a more metaphysical story of Ty becoming a fully blown monster torturing his human self. Unfortunately I think I went over people's heads with it, and I don't think I did enough explaining on what was going on exactly. I was hoping to have Creative interpret the story their own way and implement the way they saw fit, but it ended up failing.

I like unique ideas for RPs. Miko has done some fantastic stuff with S.H.I.T. in this regard, and Barbosa's whole writing style and premise was fantastic. As you can see though, sometimes to do RPs like that you need a stranger character. That doesn't mean more "normal" characters can't do unique ideas. Titus going with this false empathy and playing up as a good guy as a cover has been great from its inception. Showtime took a rather standard gimmick of a talk show host and did more with it than anyone could have ever thought of, eventually evolving out of that gimmick. I think someone like Logan could hit on a premise that I've incorporated into my own writing with being a family man and excel tremendously with it. My writing tends to have a more romanticized style whereas Logan's could be far more pragmatic and down to earth.

That all being said, it's not just about the idea, but about the execution. As I said above, while I wasn't super huge on Saxoteur's content, their execution of said content was absolutely fantastic.

So...that went a little more off topic more than I expected.

I have a character that only speaks sans skirt. Does that count?

मैं ऐसे नहीं मानूंगा. करके दिखाओ!

Question:

If people put videos in their RP do you ever bother watching them?

Speaking only for myself, I typically watch them. If it is a video for a song, I may pass it up if I know the song, but I'd say 95% of the time I watch them.

On a related note.... Do the video game soundtracks in mine enhance my RP's from Creative's standpoint? I write them with the intention of the reader listening to the instrumental as they read the story (if they want to), but I know not everyone will read them this way.

Again, I speak only for myself, but they can be hit or miss. The softer instrumentals are usually better because they can add an ambiance to the setting. The songs with louder instrumentals can be distracting from the story, so I typically turn those off and reread it without the music.
