WWE/WWF Mount Rushmore.

Dr. Awesome

Occasional Pre-Show
Right, this thread is going to look and sound strange. Especially considering I'm a Brit, but what I want to know is
IF WWE made a mount Rushmore who would you place on it and why?

Mine would have:

The Undertaker, because not only his he undefeated at Wrestlemania but because he was also on the first raw and is the only superstar still around from then but what truly gains his place is his place is that despite being 47 years old he can still wrestle better than man 34 years old.

Ric Flair We all knew this was coming, but you can't avoid this man he's a 16x World Champ(I know most were outside WWE but they were in NWA and WCW, Which was bought by WWE so it counts) also the guy was part of the biggest stable in wrestling history.

Hulk Hogan another obvious one. As much as we can all agree he was a superhero, he made Wrestling big, he has a MASSIVE name and in all is one of the greats. Backstage politics may have got him to the top but in hindsight he did deserve it.

Vincent K McMahon Cliche or not this guy has created something special, I could have put his Dad on there but I choose not to as I remember his work more than his father's work.

So who would you choose?

Not the owner of the company, not a guy who made his name somewhere else and not a guy who has never actually been the guy.

Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, Andre The Giant and (probably) The Rock.

The Rock's spot is up for grabs. Probably a bigger draw in his day than guys like HBK and Bret Hart, but Rock and Austin, both, bothers me. Just a bit.

This is tough for me because it says just WWE so I won't put flair or someone like that in.

Hogan,Vince,Austin, and HBK

but I refuse to do this without a Japanese version

Mitsuharu Misawa, Giant Baba, Antonio Inoki, and Rikidōzan

What it “should be” –

Hulk Hogan

Just for the simple fact that most of these Belts are synonymous with these 4 men speaks volumes of how important they are to the WWE. You can say Bruno Sammartino all you want, but the fact of the matter is this. These 4 Legends are what changed Professional Wrestling to Sports Entertainment and made me a fan for life.

What I would like it to be –

Hulk Hogan – The Icon of WWE. If WWE was a comic book company, Hulk Hogan is Superman. Before Hulk Hogan, wrestling was just another sport to me. As soon as I saw the Hulk Hogan on TV, Wrestling became a way of life to me.

Ric Flair – The Icon of WCW. If WCW was a comic book company, Ric Flair is Lex Luthor. I always thought of Flair as the leader of the “Legion Of Doom”, if you will. I viewed NWA / WCW as the “other” company, with a Heel as their top guy.

Stone Cold Steve Austin – The Icon of Raw. If Raw was a comic book company, Stone Cold Steve Austin is Batman. He just brought the “Anti-Hero” character to life. He was the “bad” good guy. Plus breaking Hogan’s multiple records in the WWE just adds to his appeal. Superman is good, but everyone knows, Batman is more popular.

The Rock – The Icon of Smackdown. If Smackdown was a comic book company, The Rock is the Joker. He made being the Villain cool. He was the “good” bad guy. He was the perfect counter to Austin. He commanded respect, and if he didn’t get it, he’ll make fun of you for a little bit (and great at it), then lay the Smackdown.

At the foot of the mountain, I’d like to add a statue of Chris Jericho somewhere with his Undisputed WWF / WCW Championships. I’d also add a statue of Kurt Angle with his gold medals and all of his Championships.

Please explain how being The Icon Of WCW warrants being on the Mount Rushmore of WWE? That's be like putting King George on the real Mount Rushmore.

Here's mine (in order):
1. Hulk Hogan
2. John Cena
3. Steve Austin
4. Bruno Sammartino

The Rock and Vince McMahon JUST missed the cut, but the 4 guys listed were all the faces of the company for an extended period of time. Rock and Vince never really were.

Alright, I’ll play along for this one.

The Nature Boy, Ric Flair. WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

He came into the WWE as the “Real” NWA / WCW World’s Heavyweight Champion. No one, in the history of Wrestling has ever stepped foot in a company for the first time as World Champion, no one.

He went straight for the Main Event Heel of WrestleMania 1, Rowdy Roddy Piper. Think about that for a second. Piper, in my opinion, was the original “Bad Guy” of Vince’s WWF. Now you have your Top Heel facing “The” Heel of Heels.

Then he entered the Royal Rumble at number 3, breaks the record…and won it, along with the World Wrestling Federation’s World Heavyweight Championship. In my mind, Flair at that point was the Undisputed Champion of the World.

Whatever the case with the Hogan vs. Flair Dream Match of Dream Matches, it doesn’t matter anymore. The point here is, Flair walked into WrestleMania VIII as the WWF Champion, in less than a year of being in the Federation. Yes, he lost, but so did Chris Jericho 10 years later, and he’s still my favorite of all time. Winning and losing “doesn’t matter” to me in some cases.

Then he made his feud with Macho Man “bigger” by including the Ultimate Warrior. Shortly he won the Title again. That’s 2 times in one year. Hogan did this once prior to this event, and this “WCW Outsider” did it.

He, of course left, and came back. When he came back, the respect level he was on was at an all-time high. He was placed in the role of Co-Owner of the WWF next to Vince McMahon himself. Now, tell me that isn’t respect.

Then later in his career, after all the Championships he had already won, he then joins Evolution as the Legend of the group. 3 Tag Titles runs, 2 with Batista and 1 with Piper and an Intercontinental Title run made him the oldest to capture the WWE Triple Crown.

I don’t want to go into great detail about his farewell tour, only because it always brings a tear to my eye. Ric Flair was the first ever active WWE SuperStar to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame. The 2008 Hall Of Fame ceremony should cement the reasoning behind my opinion of him being in the Mount Rushmore of the WWE, but the 2012 Hall Of Fame ceremony should be enough to prove my point. “The Man” is the only man to be a 2 time WWE Hall Of Famer!!

So, to recap:
• Debuted as the “Real” World Champion.
• Entered at # 3 and won the Royal Rumble and the WWE Championship. The only time the Title was on the line in the Royal Rumble.
• Main Evented the Grandest Stage Of Them All as the WWE Champion.
• Won the World Title twice in one year.
• Re-debuted as the Co-Owner of the World Wrestling Federation. Who does that??
• Became a WWE Triple Crown Champion late in his career.
• First active SuperStar inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame
• First Legend inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame…twice!!

I get it. Bruno Sammartino was the face of the company at one point in time…for the longest point in time at that, but let’s face facts, that was Vince J. McMahon’s WWWF / WWF, not Vince K. McMahon’s WWF / WWE. Include Bruno, fine, but even Bruno himself won’t set foot in the WWE Hall Of Fame, let alone have his face up on a WWE mountain.

I said it “should” be: Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, and John Cena, which I believe is reasonable enough considering the Championship Belts associated with these men. Redesigning a Title, let alone the company’s World Title for a specific SuperStar is really important in my book. It sets the tone of the company. It establishes who’s on top, and not just who is holding the Title right now.

I would rather it to be hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock, with Chris Jericho (first Undisputed Champion and Kurt Angle (only Olympic Gold Medalist in Professional Sports Wrestling Entertainment) to have statues near the entrance of this great monument. Yes, they are my favorites and this is completely bias.

Read my sig. (That would be “Hit My Music” in internet forums.) HAHAHAHA!!

if it was left up to vince then it would be

vince. hhh. cena. austin.

it should be

undertaker. hbk. austin. the rock.

and if it were up to triple h

hhh, hbk, kevin nash, scott hall

No Jumbo Tsuruta?

I'm sorry but someone had to be left out, honestly if they had one in Japan it would have to be much larger than rushmore because there have been many more "Austin" "Rock" "Hogan" type guys. From when Rikidozen first established wrestling in japan, there have been at least three guys like Hogan, two as big as austin, and countless guys in a Rock spot. Guys that are like once in a lifetime over here seem to be the norm in Japan because of how good the talent is there. Especially from the 50's-90's and the 90's having the famous five.

Sammartino - The man who carried the company without the razzamataz.

Hogan - The broad shoulders that carried the WWF past the NWA.

Austin - The figurehead of the biggest boon period ever.

Andre - The eighth wonder of the World, quite possibly the first wrestler to be bigger than the title. When the WWWF was still a regional promotion, Andre was a worldwide draw. Plus, being the very first WWF HoF'er has to be a major consideration.

I wouldn't pick Vince Jnr because Vince Snr could just as easily be argued to deserve the nod. Cena would be close to my consideration but what nixes him for me is that he is too polarizing, having people making the pilgrimage to piss on one of the faces probably wouldn't be the concept. If it wasn't for his Hollywood career I don't think the Rock would have received any mentions. HBK and Taker sort of fall within the Andre bracket but I believe he was a greater draw and for a greater proportion of his career. Triple H is another polarizing character and, while portrayed as top dog for a period, I don't think he occupied that position for long enough to really be in the running. The Nature Boy is a sure in for a NWA or WCW Rushmore, but I believe that is the exact reason he would be immediately a void option - when anyone says Flair the first thought is of a different company.

I would have to go with Hogan, Austin, Cena, and Sammartino. Each was responsible for bringing mainstream appeal during their time at the top.
