WWE TLC 2012 General Discussion & Review

Well I've been thinking and since TLC is the next PPV and John cena and Dolph Zigler are feuding with each other and cena temporarily moved away from challenging wwe championship would you like to see the match between Cena and Zigler at TLC which is likely to happen be a ladder match with the money in the bank briefcase on the line?
I can't much forsee the consequences right now but it can be interesting so what are your comments?

Yeah, thats why they are having trouble making new stars. Punk's year long title reign is going to be ended by a part-time wrestler that might not show up ever again after WM. Ryback ending Punk's title reign could of been something like Batista beating HHH where it just launched Batista's career.
Trouble is, Ryback is not Batista. Although Batista was a monster, he had a slow build, was part of Evolution, beat very large number of people and eventually won RR and turned against "The Man" so he could oficially be "The Man". (one of my favorite storylines :) ). Ryback is someone who came out of nowhere(well, he was there as part of Nexus but was repackaged in his current gimmick), squashed various jobbers and tag teams(looks weak for tag teams to be squashed by one man but what the hell) and immidietly put up in Championship match just because there wasn't someone else at the moment(Cena had that surgery and had to rest so he wasn't ready for HiAC match).

Thats whats wrong with WWE and development of stars right now, not enough starpower and people who are acctualy over so they need to resort to this "instant" way of building people. Ryback could of been IC Champ first, gone over some people(for example like Big Show) and monstrous like that after a half a year or whole year be pretty good over and ready for anything you could throw at him. Like this, you have pretty "green" wrestler who could be lost in the roster because if he lost couple of times(in any way) to people and you give him couple of bad feuds nobody would really be care for him.

Other thing is, how would you book Rock vs Ryback? Nobody in the right mind would seriously believe that Rock would be "fed" to Ryback. Like this(if Punk beats Ryback in TLC), you would have heel champion with over a year long title reign going against one of most popular Superstars ever and like that you would have the guy who came yesterday to WWE, is a face, beat some jobbers and a champion and immidiatly going against the Rock where he would probably be booed because i sincerely doubt that the crowd would be against Rocky. Plus, what would you(or anybody else) rather see: Rock/Punk or Rock/Ryback? So their decision is very good in bussinesswise way. :)

So, i agree that its E's fault, but I don't think that it would benefit anyone if it was otherwise. There is still time for Ryback, and that time isn't just right away. :)

This match is just another way for Punk to retain, while making Ryback look good, it seems. You can't have Punk go over Ryback clean, but there doesn't seem to be any chance of Ryback winning the title, so this seems like an easy way around that. I can imagine The Shield running in and keeping Ryback down long enough for Punk to grab the title, after a decent match -- with Ryback looking close to the win a few times. Rock/Punk seems like a foregone conclusion at this stage, so unless the WWE is deviating from that or they want to do a quick title change (which wouldn't make much sense), then I can't see this match playing out any differently that Punk screwing Ryback once again.

That being said, it's a shame Ryback won't be able to win the title off of Punk just yet. I know he's got a fair share of detractors, but the guy is OVER and he's well in line for a world title. WWE has the potential to create another star here, but they seem more intent on using him as a tool for Punk to draw more heat. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's a shame that he won't be able to get a title reign just yet. I wouldn't be surprised if he went over to Smackdown -- especially if Big Show retains the title against Sheamus -- and ended up facing Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship, potentially even leading up to a WrestleMania match between the two.

Either way, Punk retains here (with LOTS of involvement from The Shield) and moves on to face The Rock.

Punk retains the strap again here. If this was Hell In A Cell, I would probably feel more confident about giving Ryback a realistic chance to win the title. But were just too close to the Rumble now, and I honestly can't picture a WWE Champion Ryback wrestling Rock in the main event match. Punk and Rock have already started taking shots at each other on Twitter, and WWE has been teasing a one on one match up between these two for a while. All in all, Punk VS Rock at the Rumble is the big money match, not Ryback VS Rock.

Of course, we're all wondering where Ryback will go from here. After all, anything below a world title or an opponent with some real name value is beneath him at this point. I fully expect The Shield to screw Ryback out of the title again. Somehow, they'll pop up again, and ruin Ryback's chances of becoming WWE Champion.

In a lot of ways, WWE backed themselves into a corner with this huge Ryback push. He's been screwed out of the title two (soon to be three) times, and the screwy finishes have played a big part in maintaining Ryback's credibility....but he's still losing. Eventually, all of the loses are going to kill his momentum, because the fans won't buy into Ryback having a legit shot to win the title.

Anyway, this should be a fun match. Punk will play the part of the chickenshit heel to perfection, dodging Ryback throughout the match. I expect Punk to land a few shots every now and then, but overall, Ryback should dominate Punk in this match. The Shield will interfere at some point, and if he's at ringside, Heyman will throw his usual tantrums, and beg for mercy on Punk.

Definitely Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins The Shield cost Ryback the TLC match for the WWE Championship with CM Punk retaining because of the fact of the injustice angle with The Shield costing Ryback the WWE Championship because of the fact that Punk has to face Ryback yet again for the third time but in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match

But also because of the fact that I think they are setting up Punk to face The Rock at the Royal Rumble anyway for the WWE Championship, in which I see Punk finally dropping the belt

This. I wasn't against Ryback losing at Hell in a Cell, the loss didn't hurt him imo, they still made him look unstoppable in the match, with the referee screwjob & after the match despite losing, and I figured Ryback would just move onto different feuds and continue being unstoppable against others....

This makes sense. Ryback's sudden ascension to the top of the card was a matter of happenstance, no? Had John Cena not gotten injured prior to his PPV match against Punk, Ryback presumably would not have gotten the quick push to fill in, and his slow build would have continued......and, man, was it ever slow! I thought he was never going to get past the stage of wiping up the ring with two wimps on loan from independent federations. Then, Ryback was put in a less-than-inspiring feud against Jinder Mahal, of all people. Then, lo and behold, he's fighting for the world title.

It begs the question: Is it better to have a slow build and arrive at the top when it's your turn.....which might portend a more natural progression to your development......or is it better to be thrust into the main event before you've paid all your dues......which might lead to a quick exit from top status because you've got nowhere to go but down?

I was sure Ryback would fit in the latter category but I'm less certain now that he's added some mic work to his act. He seems to have better speaking ability than I thought he would. If the company is going to add some personality to the Ryback persona, his rapid rise to the top might just yield some very satisfying results, after all.

Do I expect Ryback to win the title from Punk this early in his career? No, but it wouldn't shock me if it happened, either.

Boy, color me fucking shocked if the sheild intereferes and knocks ryback through 100 tables, while they, themselves, are thrown through 100 tables. Like the last 200 matches in a row that punk and ryback have had.

Potential for a very fun, entertaining match, with a predictable finish. As long as we get heyman and the skullet sailing through the air to crash through a table, it'll be worth the price of admission.

Hey everyone so I just saw an article on WZ updating the TLC card. And it seems as if

CM Punk vs Ryback is off the card,

http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/264833-updated-wwe-tlc-ppv-card-4-announced-matches

It's listed that it'll be a 6-Man tag between

The Shield vs Ryback, Team Hell No

So does this mean because of the surgery he won't be able to make it to the event?

If so, here are my questions

1. Would the card suffer terribly without a WWE title match?

2. Should The Shield win this one or should Ryback and Team Hell No get their revenge on them?

I'll go first,

1. I think it would, normally the WWE title being the biggest championship holds the TLC match itself, and since the match seems to be scraped and I doubt they'll put Sheamus and Big Show in the TLC match, it'll suffer without a match that is the name of the event. a TLC match at the TLC event.

2. The Shield should DEF win this one, if they don't then the WWE has killed The Shield before they can even really be born. A win for them should solidify them as a legit threat and serious contenders. Defeating Ryback would be very good for their name and defeating the tag team champs could put them in the title picture as well.

According to WWE.com, Punk vs. Ryback is officially off for TLC. CM Punk's surgery is said to have involved having a piece of torn Meniscus that had locked up Punk's knee removed. I haven't read anything on recovery time but there's not going to be a WWE Championship match at a ppv for the first time I can remember.

I'm very disappointed that CM Punk VS Ryback for the WWE Championship is off. We have seen them face each other for the belt before, but the TLC stipulation would surely have made it more interesting than their previous matches. At least we will still get a TLC match in Ryback & Team Hell No VS The Shield. I doubt it will be as good as the title match would have been though, speaking of title matches.... If they do not have the WWE Championship up for grabs then this will be the first PPV event in WWE where there is no WWE Championship in almost 6 years. The last time we had a PPV event where there was no WWE Championship match was No Way Out in 2007 which was main evented by John Cena & Shawn Michaels facing Undertaker & Batista in a tag team match. It did not have a World Heavyweight Championship match either, oddly enough.

Still looking forward to the show regardless. It's one I anticipate each year due to having four stipulations at once: Tables, Ladders, Chairs, and TLC. All of which are match types that I like. I expect the new TLC match to main event the show at this point, that or the World Heavyweight Championship match. It's strange that we might not have a WWE Championship match, but it's for the best so that Punk can recover quickly and face The Rock next month. It would have been a mistake to make him lose the title just to make a poorly thrown together last minute match for this show. It's better to risk this show suffering a tiny bit than to miss out on CM Punk VS The Rock with Punk's historic reign still intact.

I know this is technically about TLC but i felt this was about a specific scenario rather than the match between Dolph Ziggler and John Cena, please merge if necessary.

Anyway, Dolph Ziggler has held the MITB briefcase for a fair while now, and later this month at TLC, he must defend it in a ladder match against John Cena. Over the last year or so, Ziggler's popularity has rocketed through the roof, especially with us, the IWC. Now, this has happened many times before, where we've built up our expectations for an internet favourite(cough* Ryder *cough*), only to be ultimately let down. How can Dolph Ziggler be different, to get himself over with the live audience a smuch as he is over with the IWC??

TLC
WHC Match Show v Sheamus
(insert name here) Wins after a gruelling chairs match, where they have literally beaten everything out of each other.
''I'm Here To Show The World'' hits, and Dolph Ziggler casually walks out to the top of the stage, mic in one hand, Blue Briefcase in the other.
'' Until my match tonight against Cena, this shiny blue briefcase still belongs to me, so what the hell, lets do this'' Drops mic, runs to the ring, Zig-Zag on the champ 1-2-3!! Ziggler is the new WHC.

What about the match with Cena you say?

Ziggler says nothing, simply climbs out of the ring, grabs a ladder from underneath, and sets it up in the centre of the ring. Then he climbs up with a mic and the belt and hangs the title from the catch. Then he gets on the mic and simply says'' Come on then John, lets have us a title match''

Ziggler wins!
We Rejoice.
Thoughts??

A week from today, WWE Tables, Ladders, and Chairs 2012 will take place in Brooklyn, New York! I'm not gonna be able to order the PPV, but I'll be reading the live results. Here's the updated card if you don't know the matches.

Kane, Daniel Bryan, and Ryback vs Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose (3 on 3 Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match)

Sheamus vs Big Show (Chairs World Heavyweight Championship Match)

John Cena vs Dolph Ziggler (Ladder Match for World Heavyweight Championship Money In The Bank Briefcase)

Wade Barrett vs Kofi Kingston ( Intercontinental Championship Match)

Antonio Cesaro vs R-Truth ( United States Match)

There is probably gonna be at least 2 more matches to be announced next week on Raw, Main Event, or Smackdown. This should be an exciting PPV to watch because of the sipulations to some matches. It's said that Fandango might make his debut ( please don't) at the PPV.

We all know about know that WWE Champion CM Punk can't wrestle because of an injury, but expect him to do SOMETHING at the PPV. Overall, the fans that are going there live will have a fun time! :)

There is betting lines out on 5dimes right now for TLC. Does anyone have any thoughts on any of these bets?

Big Show -170 (means if you bet $170, you win back 170 plus 100 more if he wins)
Sheamus +130 (you bet 100, you win your 100 back plus 130 more)

Kofi Kingston +320 (kofi is big underdog here, 100 to win 320 sounds pretty sweet, dont they wanna keep IC title on him? )
Wade Barret -460

Dolph Ziggler -400
John Cena +280

Team Hell no and Ryback +180
Shield -260

antonio cesaro -750 ( huge favorite, need to bet 750 to win 100, wtf? )
R-truth +450

my initial reactions are betting on hell no and ryback , maybe cena? and maybe kofi for nice underdog bets. im also pretty sure if someone loses by DQ it still counts. so if someone interferes and beats up cena or anyone else, he wins by DQ and wins the bet

WWE TLC - December 16, 2012

1. Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara vs. Team Rhodes Scholars in a #1 Contender Tables Tag Team Match - This was a good opener for the ppv and, in all honesty, was a much better match than I expected. There were definitely some spills & thrills to start the show as the match had a lot of action going. Both teams got in a lot of offense and it looked pretty even throughout. For TRS, Cody winds up going through a table in a nice spot before Sandow puts Mysterio through one a bit later to even things up. The end comes with Sin Cara going for a springboard move only for Rhodes to pop up suddenly and push him off. It's a crazy looking spot in which Sin Cara flies off goes through a double stack of tables. It was a hot looking spot and pretty dangerous. Team Rhodes Scholars scores the win at the 10 minute mark to become #1 contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship. **3/4

2. Antonio Cesaro vs. R-Truth for the WWE United States Championship - Pretty decent match from these two. Nothing tremendous or anything, but a decent mid-card title match. The live crowd wasn't really into it much but I personally dig Cesaro's sort of "throwback" style. It doesn't bother me to see wrestlers actually using wrestling holds for a decent amount of time. Truth got in some decent offense, including a nice near fall after hitting an Ax Kick to Cesaro. The end comes when Cesaro counters a suplex attempt from Truth and shoves him into a corner and almost collides with a ref. In the confusion, Cesaro delivers the Very European Uppercut to Truth and puts him in the Neutralizer for the win at the 7 minute mark. Cesaro retains, so hopefully this means he's heading onto other things. **1/4

Dolph Ziggler Promo - There's a brief backstage promo conducted by Josh Matthews with Ziggler. Ziggler continues to get better and better on the mic each time in my opinion. Ziggler states that it makes no sense that he should have to defend his MITB contract but then states that he's glad that he has this match as it's an opportunity to prove something. He ends the promo with "Mark my words. Tonight, everything changes." Good stuff from Ziggler and I'm glad that he didn't cut a whining heel promo in which he goes on about how unfair this is. He showed good intensity here and made me want to see the match all the more. Thumbs Up

Miz TV - Pretty unusual segment all in all. I'm just not digging 3MB and they continue to look like a bunch of goofs. Slater threatening the Spanish announce team and saying that they'd better not be bad mouthing them in their "foreign, Mexican voices" truly made him sound like some ignorant redneck. Ricardo Rodriguez ran out for some reason, I guess to help the Spanish commentators. They back him up when Alberto Del Rio suddenly comes out and attacks 3MB. I'm guessing this means that Del Rio has turned babyface. As 3MB gains the upper hand, Miz jumps in and helps. The heels challenge Del Rio & Miz to a match later and they accept. Del Rio's spontaneous face turn was a surprise, though I can't say I'm looking forward to an impromptu six man tag match. Thumbs Down

3. Kofi Kingston vs. Wade Barrett for the WWE Intercontinental Championship - A good match from Kofi & Barrett with a lot of back & forth action and near falls. I think these two compliment each other very well and are two more guys in WWE that are able to mesh their contrasting styles incredibly well. My only real complaint about this match had to do with the commentators going on about the Slammy Awards they'd won rather than focusing on this match. The end comes with Barrett setting Kofi up for the Bull Hammer elbow. He spins Kofi out but Kofi counters, using the momentum to spring into Trouble in Paradise. Kofi scores the clean win at the 8.5 minute mark to retain the IC title. **3/4

4. Ryback & Team Hell No vs. The Shield in a Six Man TLC Match - This match was friggin' awesome, there's just no other way to put it. As chiche` as it might sound, this was just a killer brawl all the way through. For anybody that's especially into dangerous looking high spots in matches, this match had several of those. Daniel Bryan was the real workhorse here for the babyface team. He looked great throughout and definitely demonstrated that "pitbull mentality" that his character has been labeled with. There was a super huge ladder spot involving Ryback & Seth Rollins in which Rollins was knocked from near the top through the table. This was late in the match and effectively took him out. The end comes pretty much as I predicted it would with two members of Shield able to isolate Daniel Bryan. Ryback was recovering after putting Rollins through a table and Kane was buried under a pile of chairs. Ambrose & Reigns set Bryan on the top turnbuckle and deliver a double powerbomb through a table in the ring for the win at the 23 minute mark. There was a lot going on in this match and all six men worked hard, especially Bryan & Rollins. A super hot debut for The Shield and a match that delivered in both action and outcome. ****1/4

5. Eve vs. Naomi for the WWE Divas Championship - This match was meant as a buffer primarily in order to give fans a little time to catch their breath following the TLC match. There was some decent back & forth stuff that ended ultimately with Eve hitting her Neckbreaker finisher. She then posed for pictures with her personal cameraman. Eve really is smokin' hot. *1/4

6. The Big Show vs. Sheamus in a Chairs Match for the World Heavyweight Championship - Another good showing from these two. To me, it wasn't as good as their two previous matches, but it was still a strong match all the same. They made excellent use of the chair stipulation in the match. It wasn't something that was just used a few times in what would've otherwise been a standard match. The chair was used in a LOT of offense here. The match told a good story as well with Sheamus & Show both being two guys that simply didn't want to quit, though Show did sometimes show a little trace of cowardice. There was a killer spot late in the match where Show has Sheamus by the throat and is talking trash and tries to chokeslam him through a couple of chairs. Sheamus counters and delivered White Noise through the chairs instead for a great near fall. Shortly after, Sheamus goes to tease for the Brogue Kick and Show counters and hits the KO Punch for another great near fall. Show goes out of the ring and pulls out a giant steel chair and proceeds to whack Sheamus across the back with it before making the cover. Big Show scores the win at the 14.5 minute mark. The ending with the giant steel chair felt a little anti-climatic but Show scores another clean win over Sheamus in a street fight type of setting and it was a good brawl throughout. ***1/4

7. Alberto Del Rio, The Miz & The Brooklyn Brawler vs. 3MB - A buffer match and nothing more. The booking of this entire set up was a mess. I didn't watch this match as I went and got a Pepsi. I do know that the faces won in about 4 minutes. NA

8. John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler in a Ladder Match for Ziggler's MITB briefcase - A great main event to close the show with and another match that delivered big time in my opinion. There weren't any super duper crazy spots as we've seen in some of the matches, but Cena & Ziggler told a really good story and both worked hard here, especially Dolph Ziggler. There was even a cut over John Cena's eye. Hot damn, we got blood!!! :p There was a great spot in which Cena is climbing the ladder with Ziggler on his back trying to stop him. A table had been set up in the ring earlier and Ziggler had Cena in the sleeper. Cena starts to lose his strength and falls off the ladder, putting them both through the table. Ziggler would go through another table later after Cena tried to execute a sloppy looking head scissor type of move. Ziggler covered by launching himself into a table that'd been set up in the corner. As with the TLC match, there was a lot that was going on here. The end was teased late in the match when Cena dodges a chair shot from Ziggler and delivers AA. After this, Vickie Guerrero runs down with a chair in hand and threatens Cena with it. AJ comes up from behind and proceeds to beat Vickie down. After AJ finishes with Vickie, Cena starts to climb the ladder and gets about half way up when AJ tips the ladder over. Cena bounces off the ropes and Ziggler comes up out of nowhere and delivers a superkick. AJ went into her full blown crazy chick mode and stares at Ziggler before smiling & skipping out of the ring. Ziggler then climbs the ladder and gets the briefcase. Ziggler scores the win at the 23.5 minute mark. ***3/4

Final Thoughts - All in all, TLC was a very hot show to close the year's ppv offerings with. The matches that were ultimately expected to deliver did so, especially the six man TLC match. The #1 contender tag match to start the show off was very fun, much better than I was expecting to be honest, and the right team won. The US Championship match between Cesaro & Truth was decent, though I'm hoping this is the last we see of their feud. Kofi & Barrett delivered a strong IC title match that makes me hope that they'll continue their feud. The highlight of the show was the six man tag TLC match. It was a wild brawl that had a ton of spots. The match more than lived up to the hype in my eyes and was the match of the night. It was an added bonus in that CM Punk, while watching the match from the Skybox, didn't interfere in any way. The Shield won the match and rightly so. TNA needs to take this match as an example of how not to make their Aces & Eights faction look like scrubs who can only get ahead via jumping someone with hammers & wrenches while not being able to win wrestling matches. Sheamus & Big Show also delivered another strong brawl and I was pleasantly surprised to see Show retain. The giant chair that was used was a bit anti-climatic but it didn't kill the match in any way. Cena vs. Ziggler also delivered with a great ladder match that, generally speaking, turned into a TLC match in and of itself. AJ Lee is back to her "crazy chick" mode and prevented Cena from scoring the win. Her interference was relatively minor in that, for the most part, it bought Ziggler a little time to recover. The Miz TV segment & the impromptu six man tag match featuring the Brooklyn Brawler were really the only bad elements of the show. Del Rio's face turn was a surprise but I dunno why the hell they did it tonight in the way they did. However, there was VASTLY more good stuff on the show to counter the few misses.

Grade: A-

I could not agree more with Jack-Hammer. That Six Man tag-team match is probably the most fun match I've seen in many months and I really hope creative keeps backing these guys and has this storyline actually go somewhere. Also, Seth Rollins is balls people, all balls.

WWE did a good job considering the lack of a WWE Championship match. Rhodes Scholars winning the opening match was the right decision and I am not surprised they will be getting another title shot at the giant pennies. I do not expect them to win, but they will give Team Hell No a fight. Cesaro and Kingston retaining were also fine outcomes. The Shield defeating Ryback and Team Hell No was a surprise. WWE obviously have big plans for these guys if they are going to defeat the Tag Team Champions and a WWE Championship contender when they are still this new so it will be interesting to see how the aftermath plays out on Raw tonight.

Eve retains against Naomi. Great. No one cares about the divas matches, but why did this not get promoted? That is a huge issue I have with WWE. I hate when they throw together matches at the last second like this. The same goes for the 3MB match, why not promote something like this ahead of time? Big Show & Sheamus did not main event. It is all but obvious now, WWE no longer cares about the World Heavyweight Championship. Even on a show that has only one world title match it still does not get to close the show. The last time it closed a show was in 2010, it's about to be 2013. This needs to change before the belt loses too much of its importance. Cena and & Ziggler did a good job of closing the show, but the world title should have been last honestly.

Why should it have been promoted? Filler.

That is a huge issue I have with WWE. I hate when they throw together matches at the last second like this.

You mean filler matches? Who gives a shit about filler matches? I'm sure they were clamoring for a diva's match. Either way, a whole lot of fans were probably going other places during the match.

The same goes for the 3MB match, why not promote something like this ahead of time?

There wouldn't have been any difference if they had promoted it. As long as they promote the matches that a majority of the audience will care about, then it's fine. Everything else is just extra.

The most important match or the one with the most buildup should go on last regardless if it's for a world title or not. I guess you could have put anybody in that world title match no matter how bad they were and you would have still said it should go on last.

It doesn't matter if they are filler matches. They should be promoted ahead of time, otherwise it comes off as WWE being lazy. If they don't think the fans will care enough for them to promote the match, why even have it? I have more interest in buying a show that has more matches promoted. Even divas matches should be promoted ahead of time. The inevitable argument of "no one cares about the divas matches" will be made. Fair enough. However if you know what to expect, including the bad matches, you can then make plans on which matches to take a break during.

So if they only promoted 3 matches for a card that goes on to have 9 matches how tempted would you be to buy it? If I knew what all 9 of them were ahead of time I would be much more interested in purchasing it. I prefer knowing ahead of time what to expect and can't stand these lazy matches getting thrown together at the last minute.

No. The World Championship matches need to go on last. The wrestler holding the world title is, within kayfabe, the best in the federation. The world titles should go on last to further keep that believable. In rare cases dream matches going on last can make sense, but 9 times out of 10 it needs to be the world title match that closes a show. TLC only had one world title match and it STILL did not go on last. This is proof that WWE no longer cares about that championship.

If the three matches were the most important matches, then of course I would buy it. Like I've said before, everything else on top of that is a bonus whether it's good or bad.

Interesting. You have inspired me.
