WWE TLC 2012 General Discussion & Review

The Doctor Of Veganomics!!!
This thread is directed at everyone on this site who live in or around Brooklyn (the NYC area). If you are one of those crazy fans who travel long distances to attend WWE shows, It's directed at you too so, if none of this applies....let it fly.

We (Brooklyn) just recently got a brand new arena (Barclay's Center) that opened with Jay-Z performing on Sept 28th. But later for Jay, (I'm a Dead Prez, Immortal Technique, Sean Price guy anyway...) This thread is about TLC being the first WWE show in Brooklyn. :worship:

I always attend the WWE shows in Manhattan at MSG, which is a borough and a train ride away (parking sucks in Manhattan). I'm pretty excited about Barclay's hosting the TLC PPV in my hometown and was wondering if anyone else was as pumped as I.:smashfreakB:

If you're a New Yorker (or from out of town and plan on attending TLC) and you feel the same sentiments, feel free to express yourself.

P.s. Mr. Moderator, I hope this is the correct forum. It is about a PPV even though it didn't happen yet....

I have not been there yet so I do not know how it looks on the inside. I am sure its beautiful. I get annoyed when people think JAY Z owns the nets, when he barely owns 1 percent of the team lol. Anyways, the good thing about the Garden is that no matter where you sit, you have a great view of everything and it does not feel that far away. I am curious how the set up of the barkley center would be for a WWE show.

i live in NJ & I am unsure if I will attend this PPV. I go to all the shows in the NJ/NY area and even fly out to other states for PPV's as well. I honestly do not like NYC & Brooklyn really isn't the best area in NY, so I'm weighing my options. I'm kinda excited but not too overly excited at the same time...does that make sense?

Yankee Stadium is in a crap area also. That does not stop people. If you plan on taking the train in, I am sure it would be filled with enough people going to the show for you not to be that concerned. Alot of areas of BK are crap, but there are also alot of areas that are good. Same as it is everywhere. Barclay Center is not in the best area, but again you'll be fine lol.

I am happy to see something else in NYC getting a show, because I am tired of hearing announcers inserting the words "Madison Square Garden" in every other sentence. If that's one less show per year that I have to hear that "Santino used the Cobra on Heath Slater in Madison Square Garden!!!!" then that's a good thing. Sorry if that's sacrilegious, but I don't enjoy listening to the *********ory reverence given to MSG :)

There are reports going around that some WWE officials would like to see a match between CM Punk and Mick Foley take place at the TLC pay-per-view in December. The promo segment between Punk and Foley on last week's Raw got rave reviews and there's no doubt that the two have great chemistry.

Since Mick Foley returned to the WWE earlier this year, I think it's safe to assume that most everyone has expected Foley to return to the ring on rare ocassions. At the same time, with Jerry Lawler's recent heart attack after wrestling in a tag team match on Raw, I have to admit that I have some reservations about this idea, if it does indeed come to pass. While I know that just because Lawler suffered a heart attack by no means is an indicator that something would happen to Mick Foley but we all know that Foley has had the crap beaten out of him during his career. Mick Foley's bumps and the injuries that've resulted from his career have literally become the stuff of wrestling lore. Foley is now well into his 40s and while I'm sure that his spirit would be willing, I wonder about the flesh.

The last time we saw Foley in the ring was in a street fight in TNA against Ric Flair in which both men left the ring a bloody and beaten mess. The match was generally received favorably but, again, there was concern because of the condition of the two men. As I said, Foley's body is just racked with injury and Flair is literally an old man that's got issues of his own.

If John Cena does compete at HIAC, I believe he'll take a more extended period of time off afterward. WWE could possibly step things up and do a feud between Punk & Ryback. But, in spite of my own reluctance to see Foley compete, I have a feeling that he & Punk would put on a damn good match at TLC if the match was a some sort of anything goes gimmick match. Punk has the ability to carry Foley and we know that Foley can tell a story and excels in such an environment.

So how about it? Is Punk vs. Foley something that you'd like to see take place or is Foley's physical condition something that you're just not so sure about?

I'd watch a two out of three falls table match with those two, just to be guaranteed more table match after the first break.

But I too wonder if Mick can still go, in a tables match. His has been a long, and frankly at times intervention deserving, road of hardcore. The sell of the icon in a tables match vs. the Champ is a good draw, but I'd hate for them to not realize the full potential of the idea as it stands on paper, double so if they manage to stink up the joint.

I don't have a lot of confidence, given his last few matches I can recall. But I also have a feeling that Mick is the kind of guy who can rise to the demand that occasion calls for. He's not as good as he once was, we can all agree. But he could potentially be as good once as he ever was in the right match. As it were.

The downside is, we know Mick likely won't become a 4 time WWE champ at this stage in his career, given how he's been positioned and his ring worn physical state, so you have to build the story around the fight. Given their respect lines currently, they could easily do just that.

If Foley can still go in the ring and wants to do the match then hell yeah I would love to see Punk vs. Foley. I'm not gonna be one of those guys that says whether he should get back in the ring or not and act like he knows whether he could still go or not cause nobody truly knows Foley's condition but himself and it's Foley choice what he wants to do, either way I would respect his decision, but if Foley agrees to do a match with Punk, I think this match would be more suited for Hell In A Cell than TLC. If Cena can't go for HIAC, Foley is a logical replacement considering his history with Hell in a Cell. They don't need to use Ryback, he's not ready for a main event feud, let alone a feud against the champ, they should be building him up right now in a mid-card feud with The Miz as originally planned, not using him as filler for Cena when Foley as a replacement makes tons more sense. Actually they don't need to wait on Cena to see if he can make it for HIAC, it's not like he really needs to face Punk at the PPV, they could give Cena his break now and save their match for TLC instead, TLC is a more brutal PPV/match than Hell in a Cell these days anyway, so they could just officially take Cena out now and put Foley in if he wants to. But I don't mind if Foley/Punk happens at TLC either.

Punk VS Foley sounds like a good feud on paper. Both men are more than capable of delivering stellar promos, and Foley is still a fan favorite, so a feud with Foley will only bring more heat to Punk's character. Plus, Mick Foley will give Punk a big time feud with a good amount anticipation. Foley could fill Punk's void for a big name opponent, if John Cena plans on taking time off.

It's sounds like a good idea, and TLC would be the perfect stage for a main event brawl, but Foley's health is a huge question mark. The man's body has been through hell, and all of those savage beatings have long-lasting effects. I would like to see the match, but Foley's health raises some serious doubts.

I don't think Foley is in shape to go in a match like that. I could be wrong and if i am then sure i would love for Foley and Punk to have a match but I just can't see Foley going in a match like that or any kind.

Lets put it like this, I'd rather see a Punk-Foley feud/PPV Match than a rushed Ryback-Punk feud. I still believe Ryback needs to have an extended run with the streak AND IC title before getting into the World Title picture.

You remember how WWE awarded the physical Hardcore title to Mick, out of respect?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq8Bf_O-HpA

Wouldn't it be neat if Punk demanded he put it on the line in a tables match? Themes of respect, passing torches, and WWE Title vs. Hardcore Title. Then Punk could walk around for months gloating with Foley's prize, reaffirming what we all know to be true. He is the Best Wrestler in the World.

Yes this is a very good idea whether Foley can wrestle or not, he will get Punk MAD HEAT just off the promos alone and the match itself would be epic whether its a Table Match, Ladder Match, TLC match or Chair Match.... But since everyone is concerned about Micks Health the best entertaining match he can pull off with limited damage is a Chair match for the WWE Championship which would be a first by the way.... This feud could also setup the CM Punk vs. The Rock match at Royal Rumble seeing Mick and Dwayne are good friends and a former tag team.... Also off note this injury Cena suffered is just setting him up to win the Royal Rumble and face The Rock at WM 29 because i is well noted that anybody thats a big superstar(Stone Cold, Edge, H.H.H., and even Cena) comes back from a meraculious injury.... In other words Punk injures Cena at HIAC, feuds with Sheamus after he gets MITB cashed in on him and then TLC he faces Foley, then Royal Rumble The Rock and loses the WWE Championship finally....

I was hoping after that promo that they were building towards a makeshift Hell in a Cell match between the two. I thought it would have been the perfect stand-in for Cena to rehab, and what better way to get Punk over as a heel than to butcher Foley in the Cell? If there's ever been one guy who can make his opponent look good, it's Foley, and right now, Punk just needs opponents that make him look good. He has Bret Hart syndrome: he can make anybody look good, but he needs an opponent that can do the same.

See also: Dolph Ziggler. He sells the GTS like a quad barrel blast from a freaking cannon. He looked like he got hit by a truck every time he took Brodus' headbutt. He makes people look great. Which is bad for him, because they keep using him to make people who aren't Dolph Ziggler look great, missing the inherit greatness required to do just that.

But I digress. As long as those pay checks still cash.

If there's ever been one guy who can make his opponent look good, it's Foley

If anyone out there understands the importance of putting people over, especially at this stage in his career, it's Ms. Foley's baby boy. I agree 100%.

Without Foley vs. Edge at Wrestlemania 22, you don't have Edge's monster push that followed. Without that run, I don't think Edge gets in to the Hall of Fame as soon as he did. Not saying he doesn't deserve the HoF, because he gets in for pioneering and setting the bar for TLC in the first place, alongside Christian, the Hardys, and Dudleys. But I don't think it happens immediately after his sudden retirement, without that last run, and you don't have that last run without Foley's rub.

Edge was already huge, but Foley set it in stone with a pretty great match. That was the match that made him a fixture in the main event, in my opinion.

That in and of itself marks why I think Punk v Foley, tables is a great idea. Does Punk need the rub? Nah, not really. Cena didn't need Rock either, but it sold shirts and tickets by the (likely literal) truck full. Punk v Foley fits, there's money there. Foley giving Punk more street cred is just a bonus.

Not a good idea.
I saw Foley at his comedy show and meet and greet, and the guy can barely walk. He's limping, he's doing ages to just walk a couple of metres, so putting him in a match, let alone a TLC or No DQ match, is a bad idea. Foley probably will accept the match just to be on TV and to wrestle, but if this match will happen, how good CM Punk may be, it will be a horrible horrible match.
Some matches are only good on paper, and this one is a good example of that.

Mick Foley would be a perfect opponent at this time for Punk. With him Facing The Rock a month later at the RR. Foley could bring Punk to a whole other level. I know Mick has at least one more great match in him and it won't be hard when you're going against CM Punk.

I'd pay to see this match, if and only if Mick is healthy enough to go and is ok to do it. I would love to see them fight in a tlc match, or even the 2 of 3 falls table match.

This match would undoubtedly steal the show yet it doesn't have much of a main event feel to it due the predictability of the outcome. I don't know how you get Foley over in the build up. He's not The Rock. He can't just show up, look cool, and sound cool and convince the world he has a chance of victory. There needs to be some doubt that Punk is going to win. If not that Foley needs to come out and convince the audience to buy the match by promising to come close to death before our very eyes.

Anyway, I would like to see this but I am not sure people are going to pay to see this.

As much as I'd hate to say we don't need to see another overweight, out of shape, over the hill wrestler in the ring again.....Foley is the exception to that rule. Every fan live or watching on TV would be 100% behind him and you know Foley wouldn't ever step back into the ring if he thought for a second he wouldn't be able to deliver.

If Punk is still champ come December, I could absolutely (knowing he'd be meeting The Rock in January at the Rumble) see him spin it to say he wants to be the man to "end" the Rock n' Sock connection...or something along those lines. Involving Foley with the title (if Cena really is out a while) that close to the Rumble will almost ensure that The Rock would be around.

WWE ratings right now - horrible, and only going to get worse as the NFL progresses, NBA begins and MLB Playoffs start.

Rock + Foley = ratings.

Raw confirmed for me this wont happen - if it were to - Foley would have been on Raw to build the match. I wish it did happen, I'd of loved to see this match. The Cell gimmick would have hidden Foley's short-comings also.

Like I posted; he can barely walk anymore. Foley's time in the ring is done, so having Foley in a match is the worse thing that could happen right now.

Foley's been seen walking just fine at other venues & shows, maybe you just caught him on an off day. You are not the person to say when someone's time is up. Only Mick Foley can tell us that in regards to himself. Shoving your unpopular opinion down people's throats like it's the gospel just makes you look bad. Mick Foley has always had the amazing skill and ability to work through his faults without many people noticing and still make his opponent look good, so it's pretty asinine for you to suggest he couldn't do the same today.

I don´t care if you think my opinion is unpopular. Seen the guy walking the same route down the street every day and he limped, he could barely walk. Seeing a man who's giving everything he's got to the fans and asking him if he, although he isn't in shape anymore and it could be very dangerous, could wrestle another match for their entertainment, THAT is what makes people look bad.

That would be awesome!! Mick Foley is one of my favourite wrestlers all time and CM Punk is the WWE Champion, which could add to the match. I think it would need to feature some kind of gimmick, like bieng a tables match, but if Foley can wrestle, this would certainly be main event worthy! :)
