WWE Summerslam: Chris Jericho VS Bray Wyatt

The Brain

King Of The Ring
Triple H mentioned it in a 'by the way' kind of manner but it looks like Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt is set for SummerSlam. I wish this was their first match instead of a rematch from Battleground. With Jericho getting the win last time and in the position of veteran who puts over newer talent I think it's safe to say Wyatt will get the win this time. I get the feeling some kind of stipulation may be added to this one but I'm not sure what that would be. What are your general thoughts on this match? Who will win? Would you like to see a stipulation and if so what?

There needs to be a stipulation added to this match to make it more interesting then their last one IMO. If there's no disqualification its safe to say that Harper and Rowan get involved to help out in some way giving Bray the win and possibly setting up one last match between the two for Bray to win the series.

Is it really a year ago since Wyatt made his debut and had that stinker with Kane!

Add a stipulation. A rematch between Wyatt & Jericho doesn't interest me as it is. Not a brawling stipulation. Jericho always looks pathetic during them. Like an old man struggling to take off his jacket and slowly getting frustrated. Another stipulation. Umm. Yeah, I have no suggestions.

What WOULD be awesome would be a submission match. But Bray Wyatt doesn't have a submission move, I hear you cry. That's the point. As submission matches are determined as a tap out or until one man cannot continue, have bray win by actually "knocking out" Jericho, via lights going out and the family attacking. It'd be a great addition to the story.

I agree about the stipulation. One of the problems with a program involving multiple PPVs to put it over is that the viewer can pretty safely call the ending of the second installment, given the logic that a lingering feud not be totally dominated by one performer.

I was surprised by Jericho's win last time, figuring he was in this program only to further Bray's push, but when Chris won the match, it virtually assured he won't win the second.

A stip is needed to spice things up.

Bray needs to continue to do weird things rather than just say them and I think they could tie in his lack of victories into it.

Have a No DQ/LMS match complete with the inevitable HarpeRowan interference but instead of attacking Jericho, have them brutalise Bray complete with him 'offering' himself up to them.

Harper and Rowan both seem perturbed by it but carry out the assault anyway. Jericho wins with the 3/10 count - actually this scenario would probably warrant a LMS - and then the Family lift the stricken Bray to the back (complete with Messiah pose?) with no explanation.

Then in the run up to Night of Champions, Wyatt could explain how Sister Abigail ordered that he be purified through pain after things had fallen away but Jericho was not equipped to dole out enough of a beating so Bray had to enlist the Family.

The Reborn Bray Wyatt then annihilates Chris Jericho at Night of Champions.

At this point the Wyatt family interruption and 3 on 1 beatdown ending with a Sister Abigail has gotten EXTREMELY tedious. Maybe that's the point? I'm supposed to be so bored, fed up, and frustrated with seeing the same thing 5,000 times that I'm really rooting for Jericho to grab a steel chair just in time and beat them all into a bloody pulp one of these times?

Bray getting this much attention blows my mind. You know who's more interesting than Bray Wyatt? Bo Dallas beating the shit out of R-Truth. That's how a heel acts.

At this point, it would just make more sense for Jericho to turn heel, and Wyatt to turn face in a double switch, because heel Bray Wyatt means I'm fast forwarding my DVR.

The Bray Wyatt VS Chris Jericho feud is a double edged sword.

On one hand, Chris Jericho can still go in the ring, and he's a veteran with some real name value, who can help someone like Bray. But you're diminishing Jericho's value as the go-to-guy to put someone over, if he constantly loses.

Also, before his return this year, recent memories of Jericho involve losing to Fandango at Wrestlemania 29 and a mediocre feud with Ryback, so Jericho losing his first return pay per view match would've been a real downer, and with a Jericho loss, you're killing this feud before it has a real chance to take off and build some momentum.

Jericho had to secure the win at Battleground, but on the flip side of that, Jericho's win really sucked the life out of this feud. Bray Wyatt's last significant (and questionable) win happened at Extreme Rules, so now you're putting him in a spot, where he desperately needs to pick up the win at Summerslam.

Bray picks up the win at Summerslam in a close match, and I believe he'll finally drive the nail into the coffin with a more decisive win at Night Of Champions.

That's a fact. Management has to remember that it can be a thin line between "enhancement talent" and "jobber." True, given Jericho's accomplishments in pro wrestling, it would be hard for him ever to be considered a jobber, yet if the fans are able to accurately call the results of every match he's in, interest in him would quickly wane if they don't watch what they're doing.

Then again, this match with Bray has the result written all over it. Sure, we know Y2J will give us a terrific battle, but we don't expect him to win it, do we?

I think it would be wonderful if he did.....but I'm not holding my breath.

This is why they shouldn't even had the match at Battleground in the first place, they just couldn't build up and save it for this show. So the match that takes place at the biggest show of the year is a rematch where the interest has greatly dwindled? They have to give this match a gimmick to make anyone interested in it. Wyatt has less momentum losing to Jericho after being gutted by Cena and needs a win more than ever at this point so I'd say he's the obvious winner here.

If this match stays the same I don't have a huge interest in seeing them work a regular singles match again. We'll see if they tweak anything between now and then though. The damage Cena has done to Wyatt is now more abundantly clear than ever.

Honestly, I'm at the point when I'll be more shocked if Jericho wins at a pay per view than anything else (as a Jericho fan, I hate saying that). With Jericho winning at Battleground, I feel like Wyatt winning here would be a foregone conclusion. I think I'm also on the boat of wanting to see a stipulation match to spice this up a bit especially at a big event like Summerslam. I'm calling for a Wyatt victory here leading to a potential rubber match at Night of Champions.

I got Bray with a clean win. However, I can see a final match between the two at NoC. A gimmick match, maybe a specialty match for Bray or a no holds barred match and watch these guys put on a classic in Nashville.

In the end Bray looks legit again and moves on to somebody else. Hopefully, somebody in mid card just so he don't get lost in the main event shuffle

This almost seems like an exact repeat of the Cena feud for Wyatt, and I was not surprised when Jericho won the first time around. I think that a stipuation will be added to this match and Bray Wyatt will get the win settling up the rubber match at Night of Champions.

Hoping for a Bray victory, one of the matches I look forward to as always like Jericho.

So are we agreed that "banned from ringside" is super-secret ultra code speak for "will definitely attempt to interfere in this match" or will they do the slightly more clever thing they rarely do where it's like "oh no you guys, the heel is behaving honourably and not having his douchebag lackeys win for him! Whatever will we do? What are we supposed to feel?"

Well. I think this is one of the most predictable matches on the card. As much as I like and respect Jericho, I see absolutely no reason for him to take this win. Flashback to battleground, an alright match, but the chemistry didn't really click that night. And Jericho won. But why? Jericho is the one we know as, taking a hiatus, coming back for a few months, having great matches, and putting young stars over. But why did he win last month? Is it because at his last pay-per-view before his hiatus, Money in the Bank 2013, he lost to Ryback and he was promised a victory the next time he returned? But to stay on topic, Bray needs to win. When was the last time he won on pay-per-view? Extreme Rules, in MAY. Summerslam is the next biggest stage next to Wrestlemania. So it makes sense that Jericho does the job this time, at least to me...

Notice how Bray Wyatt fell down the card ever since his feud against John Cena?
His character too is aging rather quickly, unlike that of The Undertaker, which was always fresh. Somehow, his 'family' seems to be more by doing less.

As for the match, hmmm... Can't say I'm too interested in it. It will be our typical upper-mid-card match lasting around 10-15 minutes. The outcome seems to be quite inclined towards Bray Wyatt as well. The ray of light that I'm looking for is that hopefully a win at the "biggest show of the summer" will push Wyatt back to the main event, while Jericho can feud with someone lower down the card (no, not Ziggler, mind you), maybe against the Nation of Jobbination (if the plans aren't scrapped after all) and try to get them over.

This feud has been slightly underwhelming. Their first encounter - with Jericho's return- was incredible and their first match was decent. Some good promos, sure, but I'm not invested in this. I'm not as interested as I should be given the two names.

The match will be fine and I'm glad Harper and Rowan won't be involved. Just let Bray win a match. He is a monster and should be booked accordingly. If this is Jericho's last match before leaves then so be it - he has helped a younger talent. A rubber match at the next PPV doesn't excite me so maybe one on Raw instead.

Y2Job back at it again. For those of you who don't understand why Jericho won last PPV, it's because they needed to stop him from looking completely pathetic. He loses so much now it means people are completely losing interest in his feuds. Look at how this feud has been going. I just don't give a shit. And I know I'm not the only one.

He needs to stop being so free to job to everyone and start picking his battles. Losing to Fandango was going way too far. Say no once in awhile.

Oh, you want to use the argument "he's still a big name and losing to him is a big deal"? Not after loss after loss. Predictability can be fine if it's booked properly. But when it's the same shit over and over it gets old and repetitive. See your complaints about John Cena for another example.

"But he puts on great matches!" - So does Tyson Kidd. It doesn't mean anyone expects him to win.

Should he lose to Wyatt this time? Of course. Does it matter, given his booking the past few years? Nope.

I'm expecting this to be one of the better matches of the night. Jericho and Bray have created a great build going into the match and they are capable of putting on an excellent match. Bray really needs the win here. Jericho's win last time around had me scratching my head as while I'm a big fan of his (always have been), he didn't really need the win. Bray HAS to win. If he is able to defeat a legend like Jericho when Erick Rowan & Luke Harper are banned from ringside it will make it all the better for him. Jericho has nothing to lose here while Bray has plenty. It will probably go on during the middle of the evening.

DAGGER'S PREDICTION
Bray Wyatt will defeat Chris Jericho.
