WWE SD! LD 11/29/11 - The Livest of Live Discussions

I really thought they were going to go for it, but yeah, the WWE underwhelmed at most occasions here. The cage match was pretty good, mostly because of a really nice finishing sequence. But all around...I feel like the WWE just trotted out the jobbers and the comedy segments constantly. Very little substance, lots of fluff. Oh well.

It was a show of mediocre filler broken up by a genuinely fun Randy Orton match and a dramatic - if short - main event. That's what it was.

I see nothing wrong with a show filled with some holiday fun/comedy.

No, it wasn't a great show wrestling-wise, which is generally something SmackDown is known for. But I found the skits to be pretty enjoyable, and the Orton match was hilarious.

I actually made my chick sit with me and watch the whole episode. She hated wrestling to start the night but by the end of the main event she was as invested as I was, and she even popped for the false finish with the ankle lock! So all in all a great episode for me.

I don't either, which is why I was so bemused when WWE bypassed that idea and headed straight for the unfunny, painfully drawn out shit drawer.

The only holiday fun to be had came from Randy Orton and David Otunga. I think we were all pretty surprised by that.

He wasn't as much as he should.
Considering how WWE books him, it was a miracle he was as over as he was. He definitely won over an ambivalent audience over the course of the match. Now if only Bryan got the chance to show those skills off every week.

Well, yeah, he wasn't as much as he should to be a serious contender for the title.

But that's just the WWE rollercoaster. There are no consistent pushes, either you're in the spotlight or not. It seems like they put the spotlight on Bryan now, and I'm sure he'll be ready when Mania comes around if the push continues ("begins" is probably the better term). Giving him the title yesterday wouldn't have done him any favors.
