Outside of Texas, Kerry Von Erich was, at best, a mid-carder. Outside of Texas, Stan Hansen dominated Japan and was AWA World Heavyweight Champion when the belt hadn't be reduced to crap yet.

Hansen's reputation proceeds him. Beating nearly every meaningful wrestler that Japan has produced since the early 80's, Hansen would have little trouble with Kerry and should advance pretty easy here.

Vote Hansen

Kerry Von Erich was a world champion with a belt that mattered. Hansen was the AWA champion in 1985, long after the horse had bolted. Von Erich beat Mr. Perfect, a feat that should not go unnoticed. He beat Ric Flair for the title. Hansen is a journeyman because he is unprofessional and dangerous. Basically, he's made a career of being a hard hitting wrestler in Japan where they like that sort of thing. He never made it in the US because the audiences there can see through it. Hansen is shit, vote Von Erich.

A little harsh don't you think?

Von Erich won his belt with a backslide. In Dallas... his home territory. Sure it was Flair, but that reign might have lasted two weeks before Flair regained the belt.

Hansen wasn't unprofessional at all, either. He was loyal to Giant Baba and his promotion, which is why he sent the AWA Title belt back to Minneapolis with tire tracks on it. He was promised title defenses in Japan and Gagne swerved him and wanted him to come back to America, for less money, and drop the belt back to Nick Bockwinkel. Hansen wasn't the unprofessional one. Gagne was.

Also, Hansen had limited eyesight, which is why he was so stiff in the ring. And no wrestler seemed to complain about his stiff style of working. He was well respected in both America and Japan. He wrestled in Japan because he was payed nearly double to do so. Otherwise, he would have feuded with Hogan during Hulkamania or been a part of the Four Horsemen, something that was actually discussed when Ole couldn't wrestle a full schedule anymore.

So I understand picking Von Erich because he's beaten Mr. Perfect and Flair in their primes, but saying Hansen is shit is just not fair.

Also, ProWrestlingFan voted for Von Erich. You don't want to be apart of that do you?

In basically a flip of the coin I picked Hansen. Von Erich really didn't gain success anywhere but Texas, and along with being AWA champion Hansen was hugely successful in Japan. He scared the hell out of me as a kid as well, and was in No Holds Barred which is good enough for me. Hansen to round two.

Ya know I never really gave it much thought but we always give Mysterio a hard time because he got a charity title reign when Eddie Guerreo died. Von Erich's title reign was no different. He won the title in his hometown at a show dedicated to his brother that had recently passed away. If David didn't die Kerry would not have won that title. Does Kerry have the same legacy if we take away the very brief charity reign? I'll vote for Hansen for longer more global success.

This is fairly close, so I will go ahead and cast my written vote. I voted for Hansen.

My main reasoning is two fold. One, I don't know much more about wrestling before the 90s than most people my age, but I know the name Stan Hansen. He is arguably the most popular foreigner in Japanese wrestling history. Two, I know the name Von Erich, but I'm not nearly as familiar with the individuals as I am the family.

From the sound of it, Kerry didn't have the success outside his home state that he did inside, while Hansen had success on two continents. So I had to go Hansen.

While it wasn't part of a feud technically, die-hard Hansen marks like myself remember vividly when red and yellow Hulk Hogan took on bull rope with a bell on it and GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY Stan Hansen. It was for me what would happen if a prime Cena took on a prime Steve Austin. The vid isn't anywhere on Youtube, so here's a Dailymotion link:

Stan Hansen clobbered the announcer after getting into the ring. For those taking notes, that is how you earn my money.

For those wanting to see Stan during a more passive time in his career, he took on Andre the Giant in a match that SHOULD have been what fans got for their money at Wrestlemania 3. No offense to Hogan, he was just following the script that night and it was money either way. Just saying, Stan put Andre in a fucking camel clutch.

I love Kerry's work, rest his soul. Kerry might have even had a bigger cheering section if this ever happened, to my knowledge the two never competed against each other in any manner. Stan Hansen was just more entertaining for my money, and a more accomplished performer when you look at the names he's managed to dominate.

I agree with this, Kerry's NWA title run was a charity reign because of what had happened to the family. He was too unreliable to have been a long term champion.

Plus, if people are saying Hansen was unprofessional, Ric Flair mentions in his book that Von Erich was completely out of it on drugs in the ring on numerous occasions, so much so that FLAIR HIMSELF had to put himself in submission holds etc, and that Kerry would forget half the things they had agreed for the match. That is extremely unprofessional, and putting your opponent at risk.

I'm giving Hansen my vote in this.

The WWE has a whole different vibe compared to the AWA, so I don't think the fans would open up to Stan Hansen as much as they would for Kerry. I really have nothing to base this on other than my own opinion, but I'm really super smart because I use smart words so it's fact that the fans would like Kerry more than Hansen. Oh Kerry was a good guy, and he is dead so he gets the sympathy vote too.

For real though, have you seen Kerry's mullet? He had the best mullet in the game, yo! Vote for Team Mullet #TeamMullet #Vibes #IHateCena #KVE
