Just two weeks after winning the U.S. Championship from The Miz at Night of Champions, Daniel Bryan will defend the hotly contested title against both his former WWE NXT mentor and the incredibly athletic John Morrison in the historic, first-ever Triple Threat Submissions Count Anywhere Match at Hell in a Cell.
Going into this bout, it would seem as though The Miz has a clear disadvantage. After all, Daniel Bryan has fast cemented himself as Raw’s most dominant submission specialist with his excruciating LeBell Lock, while Morrison’s rigorous parkour training – often referred to as the art of movement – enables him to excel in just about any environment. Also, since The Miz’s ex-tag team partner and his former NXT season one Rookie clearly have scores to settle with the hazardously egotistical Superstar, it’s likely they will both take out their many frustrations on Mr. Money in the Bank in this high-risk contest.
However, The “Awesome One” has an ace up his sleeve in the form of his NXT season two Rookie, Alex Riley. Helping his mentor bully Daniel Bryan on Raw over the last several weeks, it’s unlikely that Riley will be able to resist involvement in this Submissions Count Anywhere Match. After all, The Varsity Villain didn’t earn his signature letterman’s jacket by sitting on the sidelines as a cheerleader.
In this match, whoever can make one of their opponents tap out – whether inside the ring or otherwise – will be declared the victor. Although Daniel Bryan must overcome Morrison’s out-of-ring agility and The Miz’s underhanded tactics to retain his title, neither challenger in this match is known for attaining submission victories. On the other hand, Daniel Bryan owes his recent title win to his exceedingly painful LeBell Lock, a hold The Miz knows all too well.
Can Daniel Bryan cling to his first-ever championship in WWE? Will Morrison’s extensive parkour training vault him to a key victory? Will the WWE Universe ever hear the end of it if The Miz wins his third U.S. Title at Hell in a Cell?
First off, how awesome does Bryan look with that championship?!
Anyway, I'm fully seeing a Bryan win here. Yeah, it may seem obvious with this being a submission match, but I still think it'll come across as Bryan having to face insurmountable odds should he win. We predicted that Bryan would be a "fighting champion", well this match seems to show us that it's going to be that way. I mean, he's going to have to face two opponents that have a ton of momentum whereas in the last few weeks Bryan has had very little compared to what he had before NoC. Bryan winning would only add credibility to Bryan and the belt and then he can have a one-on-one feud with Morrison (heel turn or not) while Miz goes on to win bigger and better championships.
This match should be entertaining and fun, with a winner we can all cheer for.
