A new champion being crowned when the current champion isn't available has happened for many reasons over the years, the most famous (and applicable) is when Flair deserted to the WWF with the big gold belt. As such I believe we will see a 'new' WWE Champion next Monday (personally, I think it will be the Miz who'll then face Cena at SummerSlam). I don't think HHH'll 'null & void' the tournament; 1) because both Miz and Misterio (kayfabe) would now have legal rights to a title bout, 2) it'd completely negate last nights RAW which would be a slap in the face to both viewers and those in attendance.

I don't see ADR cashing in anytime soon, not unless they want him to lose. His rep at the moment is pretty low having been embarrassed by Punk and then beaten clean in pretty quick time by Kofi last night.

To make the storyline worthwhile, I'd hold off on a Punk return until after Cena 'regains' the WWe title. This makes sense to me because it would give him two strong reasons to return; 1) Cena ain't fired, 2) Cena ain't the real WWe Champion. Run the storyline up to Survivor Series when due to some controversy concerning the Rock, Punk comes out as the undisputed WWe Champ, an accolade he will hold into WrestleMania. This will further legitimise Punk as a headliner and, if worked right, he can carry RAW for a couple months while John recuperates for WrestleMania.

First of all let me start off by saying that I hope Miz wins next week. He is my current favorite on Raw.

All that aside, I never heard Vince actually say this, but Cole said on Commentary that the "former champion" had been "stripped" of the title...so for storyline purposes, there is no champion right now. The tournament declares a new champion. When Punk returns it will be very similar to the HBK vs. Razor Ramon situation in '95 of the IC strap.

However, I could see HHH coming out and declaring that he cut a deal with Punk and Punk has been reinstated as champion..or that Punk has to fight the winner of the tournament to get the belt back...

Dolph Ziggler vs the Miz should have been the final match.

Ziggler is the US Champ, which in olden times meant he was the default #1 contender to the WWE Champ. I think Ziggler vs Miz would have made for a much more entertaining match that Rey vs Miz. Yes I know their both heels, but people have been popping for Miz like his name was John Cena.

Mysterio is a safe bet for the match, but come on we've seen Mysterio as champ, its boring. Its pretty much given that the Miz will be WWE Champ come next Monday.

I really did not understand one thing. Punk has supposedly left with the WWE title hasn't he? That means that the winner of this tournament cannot be crowned as the WWE Champion, because, after all there is no WWE title. Now it is possible that the WWE has created another title belt but I think that WWE should have sold the impact f losing the belt much more and how the champion that is crowned will be a paper champion as he would not have beaten the original champion. The new championship will not be anywhere near as prestigious as the original one which is in Punk's refrigerator currently and I feel that that fact should have been emphasized more.

I can see that aspect of it. At the same time, however, Vince sort of coming out and looking and playing as though he was utterly devestated and humiliated would've shown a "weakness" in his character. I think it could have added a little something extra but I generally thought that Vince doing his best to "ignore" CM Punk by not mentioning his name and trying to get back to business was kind of realistic. After all, Vince is known for sometimes ignoring what he doesn't control or whatever doesn't quite fit in with his vision of things.

In fact I hope Punk shows up on Raw the next week either in person or by sattelite and says something along the same lines before the title match.

I think that's a possibility or that maybe Triple H will step in and shut the thing down.

I do not really know who will win but I do hope that it is Mysterio. We have seen Miz vs Cena quite a lot of times in the recent past while we have never seen Mysterio vs Cena. I am, of course, assuming that Cena will face the winner at Summerslam as is often the case. Even if that is not the case I would like Mysterio to win as the heels on the roster are much better than the faces other than Cena and Mysterio vs Any Raw Heel would be a better match up than Miz vs Any Raw face.

According to Dave Meltzer, Mysterio is going to be heavily pushed over the course of the next month or so. The WON reports that WWE has "something big" planned for SummerSlam and for Raw the following night, which will take place in Rey's hometown of San Diego. I know some people don't like Mysterio but the guy can be counted on to put out great, high quality matches.

Ehhh... Mysterio can't be counted on as far as I'm concerned. He's injured and needs time off every year and honestly, his matches have entered the realm of terrible. Don't get me wrong, I used to love the guy when he came in years ago, but the routine of getting beat down until he hits a 619 is becoming so bad. He's legitimately turned into a cruiserweight sized Cena. He looked more out of place in the MITB match than any guy on either 2 brands. I don't think he can go at a high level consistently.

I hope that on Raw next week that HHH cancels the tourney and CM Punk is still champ.

Cuz the whole tourney killed the mood of CM Punk winning the title and i dont want to see Rey,Miz or ADR be champ.

I didn't read this entire thread, so do forgive me if I'm repeating something here.

My expectation is for Mysterio to win the tournament, then be attacked by the Miz post match, as has become his penchant of late. ADR then cashes in, setting up the two having a big title match at SummerSlam. If we buy into the reporting that Mysterio is getting a big push, it's safe to assume Rey will win the rematch. Punk and Rey's history makes a pretty good match up when Punk comes back (probably before Survivor Series), and maybe Rey is the conquering hero to bring back the title? Remains to be seen. In the short term, though, my money is on Rey winning this tourney. We'll see what goes on from there.

I certainly do not think the tourney should be cancelled. They built an entire show around it, got us excited for it, then delayed it a week. If they cancel it next week, they'll just be shooting themselves in the foot and taking a step back with the audience.

We got to see one night of Raw filled with some great matches and actual wrestling.... buuuuuuuuuut they could have spreed this tournament out over the course of a few weeks leading into Summer Slam.

Summer Slam is roughly 4 weeks away. The Title Match could have still been the Miz vs Mysterio for the "New WWE Title" and Mysterio could have been crowned the NEW WWE Champion on that night near his home town. Its not like they don't have enough over flow in wrestlers on Raw that they couldn't have stacked the tournament up to have 16 different superstars instead of 8. They did manage to have a 8 man MITB match the night before, those 8 superstars, plus an additional 8 guys could have been used to beef up the brackets.

They would have got to see 4 weeks of tournament matches to determine which two superstars would face off at Summer Slam. The build up could have still ended with Rey vs the Miz but you would have given more screen time for 1 on 1 competition over the next month. With Cena out of the Title Picture for a while this would have also given many other superstars a chance to shine.

The First Round could have gone something like.....

Miz VS JTG/Hawkins
Del Rio VS Santino/Kozlov
Ziggler VS Masters
Swagger VS Ryder
Truth VS Borne
McIntyre VS Kingston
Reks VS Riley
Primo VS Mysterio

In a 16 man tournament you could have had several squash matches. It would have allowed TV time on Raw for some forgotten talent. I'm not saying Kozlov, Santino, JTG, Hawkins, Primo, Masters, and Reks are going to be believable to become the WWE champion but they could have at least been considered in this tournament to stretch it out some. They also could have used some Flag Ship WWE Programing exposure vs the guys on Raw who are usually showcased. The brass could have seen what type of reaction some other superstars could gain from the WWE Universe. We could have also seen some new fresh feuds develop and new story lines open up.

The Miz and Mysterio could have been kept far away from each other to start things off and as weeks progressed they could have picked up win after win leading to their final confrontation for the WWE Title at Summer Slam on the 14th of August.

To be honest, I'm not surprised Del Rio lost in the first round. Since he has the briefcase, he didn't need to be pushed any further.

I agree with Harthan in that Mysterio will win it and Del Rio will be added to the angle. Whether he cashes in as soon as Monday, or between Monday and SummerSlam, remains to be seen.

I hate the fact that they are pushing Mysterio yet again. You would think that they learned from the past that whenever they try to give this guy another push, his body breaks down even more. But I would be a hypocrite if I said it was completely the wrong thing to do since I posted in another thread that they have to start pushing others on the roster.

As we all know, supposedly a new champion will be crowned on on the 7/25 edition of Monday Night RAW. At the end of the night, who do you think will leave as the WWE champion?

Unfortunately, I think it will be John Cena. He will kickoff RAW with some stupid promo calling Triple H out to the ring. He will then tell Triple H that it's not fair that he wasn't in the tournament and that there's no champion for him to invoke his rematch clause against. So of course, Triple H will make Cena "win his way in." By putting him in some kind of squash match later in the night. Cena will of course win and then it will be Miz vs. Mysterio vs. Cena for the title and Cena willl win.

I know there are reports that WWE has big plans for Rey Mysterio but I just don't see him leaving with the belt. I think if they don't force Cena into the match on RAW, there's a small chance Rey could win only to have ADR immediately cash in the case and that would set up ADR vs. Rey at Summer Slam.

My money's on WWE waiting to have Del Rio cash-in until Punk returns, gaining his revenge perhaps for Money in the Bank. As for the tournament finals, I can most certainly see the winner facing Cena at SummerSlam for the belt and I think this is a perfect opportunity for that long awaited Mysterio/Cena match that we've never really had whilst they were main eventers. I don't have any real problems with Mysterio carrying the belt for a little while and Miz has Riley still to worry about. Punk's spectre looms large over this entire event though, and I would not be surprised to see him cause the finalists some problems in the near future.

I personally hope it will be The Miz, but at the moment, he's lost alot of momentum so having the belt put on him right away seems like a pretty silly idea, on the other hand. Rey is said to be getting a MONSTER push very soon, which could indicate he's going to carry the strap for a while, and with ADR having the briefcase, need I elaborate? I really don't like this idea.

I mean, lets be honest, who the hell wants to see ADR vs Rey for the 428742794th time? On the biggest PPV of the summer. I'd sure like to see something fresh for the new, coverted title.

I think if they've re-signed Punk and Punk plans on coming back sometime in the relatively near future (within the next couple of PPVs), then Cena for sure wins the belt. Leading to Punk's return and a feud for the "undisputed" championship.

I agree with what you said about both Miz and Rey. It wouldn't surprise me if they somehow delay crowning a champion until SS and have a Rey vs. The Miz or Rey vs. The Miz vs. Cena at SS.

I don't know why, but I feel like nobody will be leaving with the belt. I don't think a new champ will be crowned until Summerfest. I really don't think a new champ will be crowned until CM Punk returns.

i dont know who i will be rooting for :/ personally i think the moment has passed rey and he can no longer be considered as highly as he once was and the miz looks unlikey to win because of the article on reys plans and also consistantly losing to alex riley. so i really dont know what will happen! i hope its not another rey vs adr. i think there will be some sort of twist! hopefully something that has not been predicted

I agree with this somewhat, but I wouldn't be surprised if Del Rio cashed in his briefcase, leading up to the supposed Cena Del Rio feud that was initially supposed to be the main event.

Although, someone actually winning seems a bit too convenient.

Personally I hope it's the Miz but considering SummerSlam is in LA I'd somehow keep Miz/Rey for Summerslam for the finals, keeps suspense going and gives WWE time to bring the New Belt into circulation and keeps Cena out the title picture. Allow him to feud with Del Rio (have Alberto win @ Summerslam) and maybe have Del Rio cash in after Miz/Rey and depend on WWE's view of turning Miz face as rumored than have Del Rio cash in on Miz and allow Miz to naturally turn face and chase the belt.

I could see rey winning and del rio cash in mitb and then have a rey/del rio feud. OR CM Punk coming back as WWE Champ. OR triple h just cancelling the match between miz and rey. OR triple h hire's cena and at summerslam it is miz vs rey vs cena for the wwe championship and if the match at summerslam happens they make a new wwe championship.

I feel like Del Rio deserves the belt, seeing how he has won every number 1 contender match since forever, but realisticly, Rey will be the champion. He'll go on to retain at SS, depending on what happens with the CM Punk scenario. But, we are also forgetting that, the person who began this tournament has been fired, so they might not even finish it. the angle might change completely.

voted for Rey Mysterio because even though i'd prefer any of the other guys to win it, i dont think its gonna happen. As has been reported on this site, Rey is up for a big push at the moment and next monday is just the beginning. I'm just praying to God that his push is over by the time Punk gets back because it would be such a waste of a talent to just have another CM Punk v Rey feud, Punk is better than that.

I know Rey is over with the kids and all but he has no mic skills, no real gimmick apart from being small and masked and is generally an uninteresting character. He is a decent in-ring talent but in my eyes you need to be a better entertainer than wrestler to hang in the main event in wwe, otherwise the excitement and drama that makes wwe what is is just isn't there.

Tell me if I'm completely wrong but I can see this as an opportunity for the championship scramble to return.

I see someone mentioning about no one walks out WWE Champion.
This is what I can see happens, The Miz and Rey have a double pinfall match where the champion is unclear and as the confusion rumbles on, Alberto Del Rio cashes in on both of them and becomes WWE Champion. It may be a double taping that night but still the next week on Raw, he claims to be the "New" WWE Champion where The Miz and Rey complain about how their match was a double fall and still deserves the opportunity to be champion. John Cena then interups the triplet of them saying he has a rematch setting up a fatal 4 way but towards the end of the night or the next week or even at the Summerslam PPV, CM Punk returns and installs himself in the match to determine the "Proper" champion and then anything can rumble on from there! :)

Not that I agree with it, but IF the tourney is completed (who knows?), I could easily see Rey winning with a possible ADR cash-in, setting up a match at Summerslam.

LA is a large latin-american market and this would go over well there, plus the raw following is in Rey's hometown of San Diego.

I'd love to see The Miz get the belt, but I can guarantee Mysterio wins the belt. It'd be fitting, WWE just pulled off the hottest angle in years, brought back a lot of interest to their product, and now they are going to shit all over their progress by giving the belt to the mighty midget, and pit him against Alberto Del Rio, a fued that has been done to death...

I actually rather Cena get inserted into this match and win for the 'lostcounthowmanyfuckingreignsheshad' time As stale as he is, I'd rather him over Mysterio any day.

My bet is on Rey Mysterio. As this site reported Rey is in for a huge push which I am into. I see him winning it Monday or at the PPV somehow.

Miz rivalry with A-ri probably lead to hhh making changes to the championship match including a-ri in it.. So it will be triple threat match resulting in A-ri the new champion of the new era..
