Wrestling Opinions You Don't Have the Guts to Post

I'm not really afraid of letting my opinions on wrestling be known on a wrestling forum but one of my less popular ones is that the NXT title looks awesome. Definitely not "classically beautiful" in any way, mind you.

Kofi Kingston should have had at least one World Title reign during or shortly after his feud with Orton a few years back. Kofi was so over at the time. I fully believe Orton's bitching is a prime reason it never happened.

Wrestler-specific/custom title belts are stupid, and they are made worse when they are defended and lost to someone who celebrates having won a title with someone else's face/design on it.

Dumbest thing ever.

my input for this thread:

people who push this view and always have done are dense troglodytes, simple as that

Not really. Promoters have been using sex to sell women wrestlers since forever. Mildred Burke, Moolah, Johnnie Mae Young, and June Byers all doubled as pin up models. Manami Toyota and Megumi Kudo were given there successes because they were talented and hot as fuck. Same with Trish and Lita.

"Attractiveness" is subjective, but it's truth that a woman wrestler won't be noticed, pushed, and find success unless the majority find her both sexy and charming, or if she's a freak athlete like Chyna or Awesome Kong.

To go with this, does anyone really think wrestling isn't sold to women by having men in great shape in trunks or form fitting singlets? They just didn't have a female Lawler oogling them for years to give them a reputation as eye candy.

That's because Chris Jericho looked up three polysyllabic words in order to appear intelligent and elitist to wrestling fans.

Do you really think it isn't also marketed to men for the same reasons? It's not like "Men's Health" magazine is for women, so why feature guys with rock-hard abs and muscles on their muscles if not for the fact they know they can capitalize on the general body dysmorphia of their buyers/viewers?

Wrestlers in general have been presented as "real men" for centuries. They're modern-day gladiators, of sorts. Men to be marveled at for their ideal physique.

Side note, I had to google troglodyte.

I did as well. :lmao: That's actually a good insult. I hope he comes back.

Anyways, here's something else...

I think it's really funny when people criticize the Sandman’s wrestling ability, or rather the lack thereof. He is a chain-smoking alcoholic and wrestled like one. What else do you expect when watching someone like that? Anything else goes against the very nature of the Sandman’s character and makes no sense. Lou Thesz/Shawn Michaels he is not, nor is he supposed to be. He's the drunk uncle you're watching wrestling with who is constantly screaming, "I can kick that motherfucker's ass!"

The Sandman character was genius and Jim Fullington played him to perfection. The proof is in the pudding because he got over in WWE's ECW just as he did in the original ECW. To be THAT GUY for a second (aka Slyfox696 ;)), those who do not appreciate it just don't understand it (or they simply don't know how to have fun).

The same could be said for The Young Bucks, although of course I've gone to great lengths defending them on this forum before so there's no need to delve into their characters and the brilliance behind it. But I've never done so for the Sandman I don't think and this was the perfect opportunity to get that out.

Certainly to a much, much lesser extent.

I wouldn't say it's marketed towards women like that, but I would say most (most, not all) female wrestling fans root for specifically the men they find attractive, not because of much of anything else.

The Young Bucks are wannabe rebels whose actual talent couldn't carry them (because the have the combined personality of two farts in the same bathtub full of milk), so they "ironically" ripped off the gimmicks of far more successful tag teams and then pretend it's all one big joke. Haha, look at us, too sweet! Isn't this funny? Isn't this ironic? nWo, bro. nWo. LULZ! ROFL-COPTER! TROLLOLOLOL. Is everyone laughing yet? WHY AREN'T YOU LAUGHING!?

They're like bad comics who tell a shitty joke and then deconstruct it after it bombs to try and explain why it's actually funny.

Their superkick party shit is like that Will Ferrel skit from Jimmy Kimmel where he pretends to be a guy selling knives on QVC and proceeds to explain how sharp his knives are by cutting through warm butter, tapioca pudding and chocolate milk, among other things.

Daniel Bryan's wrestling career should have ended when he forfeited the title after Wrestlemania 30.

reDRagon is the best tag team in the last 10 years.

I mean, sure, maybe, but what would you have to back that up other than anecdotal evidence?

I actually really enjoyed The Great Khali from 2006-2008. Not every wrestler is going to have wrestling capabilities on the same level as Kurt Angle or Daniel Bryan, and Khali fulfilled his role as a monster heel well. They got enough mileage from it, he looked the part, and with the right opponent, he could put on a half-decent match, like his work with Cena and HHH.

His comedy stuff was stupid, and his in-ring ability got dire, but he wasn't all THAT bad in that time frame.

Exactly. Does anyone really think John Cena would be half as successful as he is if he looked like Maurice Tillet or had the body of Bastion Booger? Of course not. John is handsome and is built like a tank. That's obviously appealing to the majority.

Sting is the greatest complete package wrestler (looks, mic, ring work) in history.

Also, Randy Savage is the most criminally underrated superstar in wrestling history.

reDRagon bore me outside of their matches with The Young Bucks which were great.

I see nothing special about Kazuchika Okada. Also his finisher is just horrible.

Lana is ugly and without makeup she has a very manly face. I will never get the obsession people have with her.

Rusev is overrated.
