Wrestling insider terms you wish you could use in real life

Have you ever been sitting around, watching TV with your family or talking with friends and had the perfect comment come to mind about what's going on, but been unable to say it because it involves a wrestling term you know no one else will get?

Our interest has plenty of inside terms and jargon that unfortunately translates really well into non wrestling situations. Personally the biggest two I wish I could use are Pop and No Sell. That many times I've been watching a live audience of sports or music or anything else and wanted to use the work Pop. And No Sell could just come up all the time when people don't react to things the way they should.

If I use one and they don't get it I explain it. I usually don't even say it's a wrestling term. I've never used no sell but I use pop and heel sometimes.

heel/face/heel turn/face turn - these are the most often by far
no sell is a good one
and every show/game series/whatever seems to have their own breed of marks & smarks

I use 'Pop' when it comes to describing audience reactions at anything- for example a t a concert when the crowd roars as a recognisable song's riff begins, that's a 'pop'

I use "botch" a lot when somebody fucks something up. Unsure if that's more a wrestling term or a plastic surgeon term though.

I like to use 'juice' when I see someone bleed or I bleed. I've also used the term 'you got the juice' from the film Juice a few times, lol.

I use kayfaybe to describe when someone is putting on an act for the benefit of others instead of acting honestly, which is awesome since I can say it to people's faces and then smile when they ask me what that means.

Dude! Good thread.

Among my closest friends, I use "heel turn" a lot, because it sounds cool, and because they like me enough that they tolerate my obsession with wrestling and understand what I'm talking about. Like if someone drinks another's last beer without asking, you go "Dude Mike just turned heel!" and it effectively shames him for doing a dastardly deed.

"Kayfabe" is also good, as Rayne pointed out. Slightly off tangent, but an old favorite band of mine, Los Campesinos, put out a song called "All Your Kayfabe Friends" a couple of years ago, demonstrating use of wrestling terminology in current pop culture. Respect for making me/us seem less like esoteric losers!

And I've tried using less insider terms on here, imagining CM Punk snarling at my wannabe cool guy shtick. You think I'm going to go out there and make myself more of a social pariah? You guys are nuts.

In my hungover state I kind of recall me and a group of friends in a bar last night screaming out WWE catchphrases while hammering vodka red bulls....does that count?

I have used "sell" a few times, as well as "pop", because they're quite recognisable outside of wrestling language. "Heat" too, actually.

I remember one time saying that Beyoncé was "over" with all of her live crowds. My friend was like, "WTF ?! She's in her prime what are you talking about ?!?" :lmao: I then had to explain that being "over" with a crowd is a good thing. :lmao:

If I'm being sarcastic now I say, "You're Welcome" a lot. But that's in part due to "Awkward." too. Not really a coined term by Sandow. Lol.

I don't use wrestling terminology myself in real life, but the last time my wife maced me in the face, she yelled "You can't see me" for about 5 minutes.

Despite what I've said in this post so far, I do in fact make quite a lot of important life decisions based on if CM Punk would approve or not.
