Wrestlemania 28: Cody Rhodes (c) VS Big Show - Intercontinental Championship

Anybody else but me think that the promo Cody Rhodes cut on the Big Show was pretty damn good?

He mocked Show, but didn't stray away from the fact that he wasn't going to lose at Mania.

I maybe am little late to the party, but this kid has quietly become one of the best heels in the WWE. This kid has got "it."

All Cody promos about Big Show have been entertaining. I thought it was hilarious when he was punching Big Show with boxing gloves a couple of weeks ago.

Problem is I have no interest in seeing this match. Cody is not going to have a great match with Big Show. Its also tough to buy into that Big Show all of a sudden has any interest in the IC title, when he's been chasing the World Title for the last couple of months.

Hoping to see Rhodes win a close match with several near falls. Rhodes will probably cut him down to size and hit a Disaster Kick off the ropes like he did against Khali. Or, Rhodes could jump off the top rope and connect on the kick with the Big Show standing. Hopefully we'll see a good match and it won't be terribly boring.

To be honest, this one has left me scratching my head. I'm not sure what the real rhyme of reason was behind putting this one together, I'm not really sure who is going to win, and I'm really not sure as to whether or not it will be any good.

I'm a big Cody Rhodes fan, going back to when he was in Legacy. I saw something there one night and just thought to myself "With a little bit of a wardrobe change and a slight change of character, this guy can be a big deal". I'm an even bigger fan of the classic Intercontinental Title that he brought back as well. I also am a big fan of The Big Show. I'm not really picking a horse in this race as a result. As I mentioned above, I don't know exactly why they decided to put these two together, but I like it. I think this has been a good feud going into WrestleMania thus far, and I am looking forward to this match.

Determining a winner for this one, seems a tall task. I can't imagine they would take the title off of Rhodes, but it's awfully hard to imagine him actually beating The Big Show as well. I just don't understand why they would have The Big Show get the Intercontinental Title? Why? What for? Not too long ago he was the World Heavyweight Champion, albeit very briefly but he was. So what is the point in him beating Rhodes for the Intercontinental Title? To break his WrestleMania losing streak? Because he's never held the title before? Okay, I guess so, but I don't know that-that's what the fans are clamoring for.

And what about Cody Rhodes? What real purpose does this serve for him? Sure, he gets another WrestleMania win, and he gets a win over an established guy, but if Big Show falls victim to his WrestleMania curse again, it's a matter of "right place, right time". Odds are if he is to beat Show it's a dirty win anyways, so what does he REALLY gain here?

Finally, is this going to be a good match? I'm not so sure. Just like in Boxing, wrestlers have "Styles" and just as in Boxing "Styles Make Fights". In the case of Big Show and Cody Rhodes, do they have the in-ring styles to mesh well and deliver a WrestleMania caliber match??? That's one that you can really leave up to debate. Are they going to have the chemistry in the ring to keep the fans interested, or is this going to be a match where the crowd is just dead? That would definitely hurt the show as a whole if one of the title matches is a sleeper. With the size disparity, it's going to be hard for Rhodes to hit a lot of convincing offense on Big Show, and it's going to be even harder to believe that he gets Show for a 3-count.

On the other hand, it's still somewhat difficult to believe they are going to put Show over Rhodes as it doesn't have a long term payoff. What happens if Show wins? He breaks his losing streak at Mania', becomes the IC champ to win a belt he never won before, and where do we go from there? Who does he feud with then? Who does the belt go to next? Does he simply continue with Rhodes and drop the title back to him? Or does Rhodes move on to main event feuds? Like I said, this one has just left me scratching me head. It leaves a lot of unanswered questions on the table. All you can really do is wait and see.

This will likely open the show. We need something good to start the show off, and a promo by Rhodes reminding everyone once again of Big Show's less than stellar Wrestlemania performances will get everyone hyped up to see him in action. A video package could air of his losses to Akebono, Mayweather, Cena, Undertaker, etc could air on the titantron. Out comes Big Show and we have the opening match. I wasn't that interested in this at first, Big Show is above the Intercontinental Championship. At the same time, it will be a huge win for Rhodes if he retains though. This is the best choice for an opender, so I expect WWE will begin the night's events here.

Rhodes should retain here. Big Show is over, another loss at Wrestlemania won't kill any momentum of his. Having Show win would accomplish nothing, due to him not needing the Intercontinental Championship being a former multi time World Champion. This match will be a stepping stone fo Cody to keep slowly climbing his way further up the card. Now is not the time to end his great reign just yet. Rhodes wins and moves on to his next challenger, while Big Show loses and moves on to some random filler angle.

DAGGER'S PREDICTION
Cody Rhodes will retain the Intercontinental Championship.

While I agree that Rhodes will likely win and rightly so, I think that Big Show winning the title could be a positive. The current mid-card is full of heels and the few faces that exist (Kofi/Ryder etc.) lack the credibility that the heels (Rhodes/Ziggler) have. Having Big Show win the title (or atleast be in the title hunt) would be good for the mid-card as it would give a bit of heel-face balance as well as give a potential feud for Rhodes. Big Show winning in a physical and close match at Extreme Rules will not hurt Rhodes at all as Show is the bigger star and has a lot of credibility (atleast currently).

Oye, where to begin with this match. Yes, I'm happy that Big Show and Cody Rhodes are in a match with one another. The way Rhodes has manipulated and embarrassed the Big Show has been masterful. The Big Show sucking at Wrestlemania is a storyline long overdue, and Rhodes is the type of guy to make this storyline work.

What I don't like is how the Intercontinental title is just kind of thrown into the mix. This match works much better without the IC title. Hell, if it wasn't for Rhodes reminding me on Monday night, I would have no idea he was IC champion or that the belt was on the line this Sunday for that matter. The IC title has been booked into oblivion, and even a match with a former multi-time world champion won't elevate the belt.

So it should be a good match, but ultimately the IC title is worthless in this feud. It's been brought up once since the match was announced. Logic says Big Show shouldn't win because why would he need the IC title?

Well, Big Show never seems to win at Wrestlemania, and I don't see this match turning out any different for the big man. I actually think this will be a pretty solid match, as I'm a fan of both Show and Cody Rhodes. This match will probably serve as a way to further legitimize Rhodes as a good IC Champion. The build has been fairly decent for a midcard Wrestlemania match, so it should be a good payoff on Sunday. Big Show will almost definitely put over Rhodes here, something he's pretty good at doing. Rhodes is putting together a pretty nice IC run, and I think this match will be one of the run's highlights. A convincing win over the Big Show for a midcard belt at Wrestlemania is always a good thing- just ask John Cena.

They're making it hard for us to believe that Big Show will lose at WrestleMania. Looking back at this Mania, this will go down as on the of the underrated feuds. Cody's mic work and constant embarrassment of Show has been tremendous. That's what leads me to believe that Show will win, but I don't think he will.

I don't think there's any reason why Show has to hold the IC Title. Cody needs this win to further his way into Main Event status. I'm definitely intrigued as to how he's gonna take the big man down though. I see this being the opener. Rhodes is gonna stall for a good portion of the match before Show finally gets to him and all it'll take is a shot with the belt and a beautiful disaster kick.

I got Cody retaining the Intercontinental Championship.

I know that for months Goldust lobbied to get a match with his brother at Wrestlemania, and was told that "creative had nothing for him" at this time. (I have NO idea why. This reminds me of Brett vs. Owen, God rest his soul, and they could milk the piss out of this for MONTHS!! Even get Dusty involved if they need to, pitting one against the other, then having the third brother show up (forgot his name)). Anyway, when you look at Cody and BS, in physical stature--it's more like David vs. Goliath (as with every match BS is in). That being said, there's no way that Cody could hit an effective crossroads on the BS (without some selling from BS himself), ---so if the title were to change hands, does anyone see Goldust coming out of the crowd (sans makeup....and please...I hope that's how it is...the makeup era is over) and screwing over Cody?

You obviously haven't been watching WWE much lately, have you?

Cody hasn't been using the Crossrhodes to effectively halt Big Show, he has been using the Beautiful Disaster Kick, or in wrestling terms, the Springboard Kick. So he doesn't need his finishing move because his signature does the job. And also, take into consideration that Cody is a top heel so cheating should be taken into consideration.

As for Goldust, don't see how they'd gain anything from him interfering. If he interferes and Big Show wins then Big Show not feeling morally inadequate due to how he broke his Wrestlemania jinx would be more of a heel thing to do so he ought to feel angry at Goldust. Then, Goldust hasn't appeared or been featured at all in the build up and it isn't WWE's style to allow something come from the woodwork in such a fashion especially at Wrestlemania, and especially by a face to a top young heel.

It is very unlikely, but if that's what you're going for, keep dreamin'.

I don't know, this seems like exactly the kind of thing that happens at Wrestlemania. They do out-of-nowhere appearances all the time at WM, especially with older legend types.

I think a Goldust appearance and interference is pretty plausible, it could even begin a Rhodes/Dust feud. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea.

So that's your reasoning for wanting Goldust to interfere? Because Rhodes can't hit the Cross Rhodes on Big Show? I don't like that. If that's the case, then what a better way to add credibility to Rhodes' Beautiful Disaster kick then by defeating Show with it? I mean, look at what other huge, behemoth wrestler that move has put away...

If Goldust wants a match with Cody he should definitely have to work for it. Rhodes has been in the ring with the likes of Booker T and Randy Orton and now Big Show; a match with Goldust is a HUGE step down. That isn't the right direction for someone as promising as Cody Rhodes.

So tell me, when was the last time a rarely seen face has interfered and contributed to the loss of one of the top young heels in the company, at Wrestlemania?

They may bring back guys like Roddy Piper to interfere in a match between Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon, where he spat on both guys, but they don't let rarely seen faces interfere in matches on behalf of another face, especially when that face is currently doing an angle where he is insecure about his Wrestlemania loss record.

Common sense and logic never killed anybody.

I wouldn't mind that happening. I say that because two brothers wrestling always draws especially these two. But will it happen? I just don't see it. They're gonna use Show to put Rhodes over some more and it'll go down as just another Wrestlemania embarrassing for Bigshow.

i would freakin love to see this. i really cant see why the wwe has decided to drop the ball on this one. it makes so much sense. i guess thats why VKM is smarter than all of us lol

It'd be stupid IMO. Cody needs wins, Big Show doesn't

Cody is climbing the ladder, BS is on the last rung about to step down. Goldust could get involved at Fatal 4 Way (or whatever is after Mania now) then set up for Over The Limit. but I don't think a WM match being tanted because of Goldust is smart

what if cody rhodes wins clean, and then starts to mock the big show post match. Then goldust comes out, distracts cody and big show goes on to knock cody out. then we could have a feud between cody v golddust, possibly cody v big show/booker t/gold dust in a handicap match. Cody still wins clean, gold dust is seen at wrestlemania, Cody can continue with show mocking him, while show can still say he knocked cody out. everyones happy

Remember last year when Cody was Dr. Doom? Neither do I. This has been a pretty well built up match. There’s a story behind it and Cody has done a great job of setting up the idea that Show can’t win the big one on the big stage. As for a winner, the signs would point to Big Show, but at the end of the day I’m not sure if I can picture Big Show as the Intercontinental Champion. Cody needs to get away from the title so he can move onto the world title scene. There’s also a chance though that Cody loses on purpose but keeps the title, which I think is what is going to happen. Since I like to play things safe though, I’ll go with Show winning the title.

A way that I see the OP's idea working out is as follows: Big Show is winning, ref gets knocked out, Cody grabs a chair, KOs Big Show with it. Looks like he's going to win! But then Goldust comes out of nowhere, interferes to even the odds, and Big Show chokeslams the hell out of Cody ftw. Cody and Goldust feud for the next two months.

Plausible enough, I think? Big Show still has a "moment," and the brother vs brother storyline still happens.

I see Goldy getting involved in the match in some way, and i do see Big Show winning the IC title mainly because its the last title on his path to being a Grand Slam Champion.

If Goldust was to appear, it would make more sense and logic in wrestling tersm to help his brother beat the giant, thus being the cowardly heel retaining the title. Nobody honestly sees Rhiodes going over clean, so for him to win, he will need outside interference or a foreign object. I personally think Big Show will get the title thus holding all recognised WWE singles titles and a reward for his 10second reign as World Champion a few months ago

I highly doubt that something like this will happen. It doesn't make sense at all. Goldust has not been relevant in years and a majority of the younger audience will have no clue who he is. Also, Big Show is not someone that requires help to get a victory.

If Goldust was to appear, it would make more sense and logic in wrestling tersm to help his brother beat the giant....

That's a thought. I'd love to see Goldust have some sort of role at WM with Cody, for two reasons: (1) He's Goldust (2) It's always baffling to see an angle started in WWE and abandoned without explanation. We saw Cody lay out his big brother twice, once when Dustin was wearing a suit and looking almost scary in his appearance of normality, which is something we certainly don't expect from Goldust.

Then......nothing. So, what happened? It's not as if anyone went anywhere. It's not as if Creative suddenly found something else for Dustin, is it? You could tell me that management much preferred Big Show as an opponent for Cody at WM, but the match hardly features as an event, imo. Even if that were the case, though, they could have squeezed Cody-Dustin in at another PPV, or even Raw or Smackdown, just to provide some closure to the program they started.

So, yes..... I'd love to see Goldust get involved in Cody's match-up at WM. After all, why not?

When it comes to WM, nothing is really out of the realm of possibility. However, Goldust doesn't even register on the radar at this point and it would make absolutely zero sense whatsoever to inject him into the Cody vs. Show match.

There's been zero on-screen interaction between the Rhodes brothers for months, we haven't seen Goldust on television in months, we haven't even heard mention of Goldust's name on television in months. The odds of him playing some part in this match are about as close to nonexistent as it gets.

Besides that, having Goldust interfere in this match ruins the story of Big Show looking for validation at WrestleMania. He's yet to have a "WrestleMania moment" and having someone help him to win the IC title will not only fail to grant Show's hope, but it will cheapen the win to such a degree that it will invalidate the entire storyline they've been running.

This is something that most definitely should NOT happen and almost certainly won't happen.
