WrestleMania 16 Sucked: Defending My Opinion

I remember this 'Mania simply because it is one of two that I actually watched live on Pay Per View. The other being 'Mania XI, ultimately not a very good track record. I've actually always kind of liked 'Mania XI, but I was 9 when it took place. A friend of mine in high school ordered WrestleMania XVI and a bunch of kids got together and watched it, which is probably why I enjoyed it at the time. Looking back though, it was probably my least favorite 'Mania.

There's not too much I can add that hasn't been mentioned already. I always thought the Euro-Continental match was pretty damn good, but then again we're talking about two of my top 10 favorite wrestlers, and Kurt Angle isn't much lower than maybe 15. The Ladder Match was/is pretty famous, and the main event I didn't think was terrible, but they could've easily scrapped some of the crap before and made it two separate matches. I will admit the whole Foley situation irritated me. I really felt like the main event might as well have been all of the McMahons in a fatal four way because as I remember it they all had chosen a wrestler to represent them. Overall it was a pretty disappointing 'Mania.

I don't think it was awful, but it certainly one of the worst manias in the last 15 years.

I did like the main event, it was a novelty seeing a McMahon in each corner, and at the time I was so happy Foley was added to the match. Looking back now I can see that he didnt need to be involved and the McMahons dominated the build-up, making the match more about them than about the wrestlers involved.

I loved the tag team title match, and the Jericho/Angle/Benoit match. It may not have been an all-time classic, but it was a good match and definitely worth seeing.

I also was always a fan of the 15 minute Hardcore time limit title matches. I see now that they were not that good, but at the time I absolutely loved that type of brawl. It was fun seeing the title switch hands so many times. The botched ending spoiled it but overall I thought it was fun.

The Kat v Terri was shit, but it didnt take up much time so I am ok with it being there. They were both great to look at too. The 4 other tag team matches were pointless though, the teams seemed randomly stuck together alot of the time. Why was Kane tagging with Rikishi? Why was Chyna with Too Cool when Rikishi (their regular partner) was in another tag match? It didnt make sense

Not a horrific show, but very poor for a Wrestlemania. WM17 the year after was a HUGE step up in quality, thats for sure.

main event should of been austin, hhh and the rock. now thats a wrestlemania worthy main event

We didn't get the match at Survivor Series, and I figured Austin would be all healed by the time WrestleMania rolled around, but I guess not.

Now, THAT would be a Main Event. The Austin/HHH/Rock Match we didn't get at The Survivor Series. That would have Foley stay retired and I guess Big Show would've been feuding with The Undertaker.

As far as the show goes, I thought it was good, but not as abysmal as some people are saying.

I liked The Main Event pretty much because of the "McMahon in every corner" Angle. That's probably the only time we're ever going to see that. It was quite interesting to see the most dysfunctional family in full effect at WrestleMania each representing a superstar, but I did NOT like Rock losing. I would like to forget the ending of that show. It didn't have the WrestleMania Ending to it that it should have had.

While it was a good match, I had three problems with the Jericho/Benoit/Angle match
- Why was the IC Title the first title defended and the European Title the second one? I mean all of us knew that the IC Title was more prestegious and should have been the last title defended to build up some suspense

- Too Short, the match barley cracked 13 mins. A triple threat match with the talent involved. It should have gone another 5 at the very least.

- Lack of crowd reaction, not the wrestler's fault but its really hard to call this a big time match especially when the crowd was silent most of the time. I guess this was due to the Triangle Ladder Match fatigue?

It just seemed like they threw things for this event together at the last second. Anyone else get that feeling when watching the matches on the card? I mean, you throw four people randomly into a WWE Title match... and to make it more interesting, because there was little interest to begin with, you throw a McMahon in the corner of each person.

That screams, "Look, we don't have much time... how about we just put a McMahon in each person's corner during the WWE title match? Because there's really not a story that hasn't been done already and the rest of the card is crappy. LET'S DO IT."

It was one of the worst Wrestlemania's in history. Period.
