Mustang Sally
Sells seashells by the seashore
In addition to everything stated above, when a performer reaches the final stages of his wrestling career, he sooner wants to make as much money as he can, rather than start a new career with an upstart organization that will force him to take a serious pay cut.
As I see it, that's why Christian and Gail Kim left TNA to return to WWE. They had to know they wouldn't be featured players as they were in Dixie-land.....and I don't think they particularly cared. They were in their mid to late 30's and wanted to set themselves up financially in anticipation of the end of their useful lives as athletes.
Same goes for Edge. His body has absorbed numerous injuries; some of them serious. Why he would want to start over in the Minor Leagues after being a headliner in the Majors is beyond me. And if he wants to sign a new contract and hold on for a few more years, it's better to do it in WWE. Who knows, maybe he's threatening to leave when his contract expires in order to negotiate a lighter schedule. If he succeeds, all the power to him.
